First day was a disaster, with me fumbling with very, very basic shit like putting on latex gloves

I hate latex gloves, they're just uncomfortable. I want that glove making machine where you dip your hands into liquid rubber and it creates a film around your skin.  I don't know if I saw it in a movie or if it actually exists, but either way, that would be incredible.  Genetics class is such a pain in the ass because of these gloves T_T

Most people have neither good learning habits nor good tools for learning. The former is more important and more rare, but the latter matters too. If you're able to sustain progress at that pace over more than a month, then probably you have both.

Building a new habit (e.g., spending one hour studying Japanese daily) is really hard, even if you really, really want the outcome of that habit - it takes a lot of willpower to sustain a rhythm long enough to build a habit. It's generally quoted that it takes 21 days to build a habit. If you spit it even once in those 21 days, odds are you're just going to fall off your habit and give up. And then maybe you'll start a thread talking about how much trouble you're having.

Yeah, but spending 20 minutes with Anki while waiting for classes when I have nothing better to do doesn't seem that difficult.  With the fact that I'm reinforcing the language by doing flashcards and then using it by reading manga(read hentai) at home, I can't really consider this a life hack can I? And to the studying comment, I can only reply: "What's studying?" I've always been one of those bastards who people hate because I just pay attention in class and do the homework without studying and break their beloved curve that they so much depend on to get a passing grade. Actually studying to me is such a foreign concept that I find it interesting when people try to explain to me how they go about doing it.

Be reassured, being able to easily remember vocab and kanji you rote learn through flash cards is not, in fact, a superpower bestowed only to a few elites among millions.

I'm not sure since how long you've been studying but really as Fred said the harder is not finding 20 minutes or remembering the damned things, it's building the habit and keeping it for more than a week/a month/two months.

I'm starting to be able to distinguish words in Korean. Hwaiting!

I want to put thirty minutes at home a day into speaking and writing Korean, but this semester is really hard. Turns out the thing about studying twelve hours a week for an upper division math class is true, lol. And I actually want to learn it and not just get by. I also want to code a little. Honestly I've never been one for being super busy, but working twenty hours a week, struggling still to make friends, and taking some rough classes might end up frankly changing who I am, in way. Failure isn't an option, and math doesn't come free. I continue to be glad that I chose to learn Korean, however. I'll need to put in some more effort every day though, and that hurts right now.

Also to be brutally honest, I'm not really talking to anyone online much these days, and that saves me lots of time. I don't really even like most people in particular on fuwa, sadly. I like reading Fred's posts though, even if they make me worry about my own future unduly. I should probably stop coming by...

I also recently stopped talking to one of my best online friends because the relationship would never be what I wanted it to be. I very much liked talking to the person, but their refusal to initiate any conversations with me is just really too much to overlook. There's a difference between being shy and being a bad friend. And no I'm not talking about you flut, in case you were wondering. So that's sort of a bummer, but I think in the end it's better than what was turning out to be a very one-sided friendship. I guess it had been that way for years and I just overlooked it.

People where I live never really honk. In DC I heard more honking in a day than I probably hear in a year at home.

My fucking sides.

So this friend of mine lent his laptop today to a history nut classmate of ours since he had some urgent stuff to take care of during English.

He just received it back and his history is full of porn searches including HD porn of Ottoman emperors.

My fucking sides oh god

Kids, this is why you use incognito or delete browser history. People never learn...

Edit: If you can't recreate the Ottoman Empire you have to experience it. :makina:

Upper radiator hose in my car blew up.

Car overheating is legit one of the scariest things to have to go through, especially when it happens and you're stuck on the freeway during rush hour.

I need a hug

Had that happen before when I was a passenger in a car.  It is indeed very scary.  Take some time to relax, you'll be okay in a little bit  <3

I would be more annoyed by all the work and waiting you have to go through to get your car back and running.

Hang in there.

Had something like that happen to me once, so I can empathize with the scariness. Hope everything's mostly worked out by now!

Just for future reference to all interested parties (read: kharma whores like TexasDice), pretty much any Arrested Development reference will get you a guaranteed like from me.

Confession: I'm kind of in limbo, having now completed all my interviews but still waiting for results from the last two. In the meantime, I've turned into a combination lazy bum and dilettante who does nothing all day but 1) go to the farmer's market to buy nice produce 2) make decent meals with my nice produce, and 3) play Stardew Valley for hours on end (because shopping and cooking don't really take all that much time). Sadly, I've decided that I shall return to being a productive member of society in April. Happily, that's still a long time away.

That is indeed some scary shit. When that has happened to me I've luckily only been on small shitty road so stopping has been no issue, I can't imagine the horror of having nowhere to stop and knowing that any second could be too much and you end up with a bent cylinder head.

Get well soon.
