community uploaded subtitles

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, I'm kind of a newbie in the community. I was wondering why there are a lack of english fan uploaded translations for popular VN series. When I use visual novel reader there are no community subtitles. Series like Walkure Romanze and Majikoi are popular, but the translation groups are always on hiatus. Why don't people just upload translations via the community subtitle feature on VNR? This process seems like it would be relatively easy.

The bulk of the work is not hacking or creating patches, that's usually not all that hard. The real work is the actual act of translation. It is not easy no matter which method you use. So the reason people don't make translations using VNR subtitles is simply because it's an inferior method to making proper patches.

Many of the groups that abandon translations do so because the translators simply don't have the time or motivation to continue. This will not be solved by using VNR subtitles.

I actually just found about VNR community subtitles just awhile ago by accident.. I never knew about it. That could possibly be another reason why there aren't more xD simply because some people don't know about it either, perhaps. It really is useful for people who have no clue about hacking^^ (like me)

I sometimes do translations for fun/learning, so from now on I'll probably upload whatever I have on there if I can.. It's really convenient, plus other people can use the scripts to play if they want. -I just finished making a short translated gameplay video, testing it out- it works perfectly for what I wanted to do... way better than using timed subtitle programs. :D

I'm not involved in any huge project or anything though, so something like this works for me.  I think the more serious/large-scale projects that involve more people tend to go for creating a patch.
