Visual Novels/ Feelings

Everyone in there own opinion has played there first vn at there own pace and felt much emotions towards great characters/story lines. The First one that touched the inner part of my soul would probably be Katawa Shoujo. Idk why but the story had alot of meaning towards all of us and even if someone is not perfect they deserve someone special in there life. People walk by me alot and always think I'm a normal guy but in reality I'm not. Dealing With Aspergers/Autism spectrum since birth and I do keep my personal life to myself and don't like to bring drama to others including online pages/facebook like I have seen from friends of mine. But anyways on that side note this first Visual Novel got me into alot of these other ones. Fuwanovel got me into wanting to read more Vn's and glad I found ya here. Share your experiences what got u into alot of these great emotional vns/eroge ones If you want, I would like to see if I am the only one that feels this way towards them :)

P.s. : Here are other Visual Novels I Have Read after my first one in case anyone here wants to try them out, they will be linked in the spoiler.

Well for me the beginning of great emotional investment in VNs was in Fate/Stay Night, which has a tinge of philosophical thinking to it, just like Type-Moon's previous work Tsukihime. I just like this idea of mixing both the emotional baggage a character can have with the clash of ideals and motivations that can arise from a more philosophical stand point. It enriches the story and engages the reader/player into employing his/her critical thinking to the characters and their ideals, it forces the player to have more than one POV and actually makes villains more relatable more often than not. Well I was starting to go on a bit of a rant, but this is basically how I feel.

Obviously it's Symphonic Rain for me. The way the story presented itself is amazing imo. The devotion Arietta showed on the whole story amazes me. IMO it's one of the VN's with the most unified routes and it showed why a first person pov is more immersing than those who switched povs. The twists were well done as well. I love reading the blogs of people who read it as their reactions are really fun.

That would have to be Narcissu, especially Side2nd, as well as Kawana Misaki's route from ONE :). Narcissu had arguably no padding, made no attempt to blind my judgment with pretty graphics, never showed off (author wise) and was all heart. Kawana Misaki was the first and only route that hooked me into staying up at night. One of the most genuine (again, no pretentiousness) characters ever crafted.

I commend you for making this thread and having the courage to be open about your life.

Planetarian was very emotional for me and I played it pretty early on.

There are only 2 characters in the entire game, which makes you just feel so lonely. I definitely got a feel for the protagonist pretty early on. After experiencing so much he still carries on and that's something we can all relate to. Perseverance is a major theme in the game, and life struggles to continue on even without our knowledge. We can all stumble upon a hidden gem in the sometimes dark world of our lives. I was so touched by all the deeper meaning behind the symbols, but I found myself broken down and depressed for several days after finishing the game. I had to remind myself to carry on just as the protagonist did when he very well could have given up.

I knew about visual novels but never really cared to go into them. I had other things on my mind and at the time it was hard enough to keep up with all the anime and light novels. Then I watched the anime Oreimo and it is now one of my favorite anime/series. After it I was like eh why not I will try a visual novel. The first visual novel that I read was Katawa Shoujo. I felt a connection to the story, the characters, everything about it, I loved it.

I see visual novels like any other form of art, they can express any emotion imaginable and every person experiences them differently. Just look at this thread so far, visual novels have made the people here feel things that other people would probably look at you weirdly if you told them a visual novel did that. Personally they have made me depressed, excited as can be, they have made me hopeful and brought me up from a darker time, I have even felt hatred and love. I truly love them (>/////<)

Katawa Shoujo literally left me with a void in my heart. Never felt as empty as I did the couple weeks after I played it. The experience was so freaking surreal

Yep yep, still every time I think about it I feel something... still my favorite visual novel.

Its hard to find good Otome games. I haven't played many myself but the highest rated on VNDB are:

>The Second Reproduction

>Tokimeki Memorial

>Hakuouki ~Strange Tales of the Shinsengumi~

Sadly, you'll need emulators to play most of them. I can give you links to PSP and DS emulators if you don't already have one or the other.

The first VN to really get through the years of indifference was Muv Luv Alternative. It was the only time I ever watched the climax of a story in complete denial telling myself that x-character was okay and that it was going to work out. Stayed depressed for about a month.

Kara no Shoujo and Fate/Stay Night did it for me too

I can't recommend Hakuouki enough, it's an excellent otome. You also don't need any fancy equipment, you can purchase it in english for the PSP, PS3 or 3DS.

If you're looking for Otomes there haven't been many translated, and you'll find that most otomes available in english have been developed by Indie companies in the West. Cinders is pretty decent ( http://vndb.org/v7506 ), and so is  The Royal Traphttp://vndb.org/v11719 )

My most emotional VN so far is most likely Katawa Shoujo.

The present circumstances of some of the characters I can relate with rather well, while others I have no personal experience with but can empathise greatly with their circumstances.

I love it so much I have replayed all routes several times. Especially Hanako, as to some extent I have faced the fear of socialisation in my past, and while I don't relate to her exact circumstances, I can relate to her general position quite well.

It was also the my gateway VN, so I guess I might have some bias towards its impact.

It seems I always end up agreeing with your posts regarding Katawa Shoujo...playing it was an amazing experience, I still cant stop thinking about it. Its definitely one of the very few VN's that managed to completely capture my heart and attention.

I guess I should start reading Katawa Shoujo soon~

The one that took my Visual Novel Virginity was If My Heart Had Wings. It wasn't emotional or brought out any deep feels, but I did very much enjoy its pleasant atmosphere and lightheartedness  ^_^

It may be a few years until I read If My Heart Had Wings. I want to be able to read it in Japanese because the translation was apparently pretty crappy

For me you could compound onto it the facts that it was my first VN, so I wasn't prepared for all the feels in the first place and that I wasn't in a very good place when I read it, so it affected me all that much more than it may have otherwise.

I always hope someone does a 2nd installment to Katawa Shoujo but it may never happen im my dreams ;/

I still remember that cruel prank they made with a sequel. Bloody cruel bastards.

Someone may think it strange that a person can be affected by a visual novel, but it's really no different than crying at the end of a movie or being moved by a book. I read The Catcher in the Rye and it literally sent me straight into a horrible depression.

On topic, I've only read Fate/Stay Night since I'm new to VNs.Since reading it and getting more involved with anime and such, I've been the happiest I've been in years. I found the characters of f/sn, and strangely enough the plot, very relateable to my life.

Maybe I should read this Katawa Shoujo since everyone's talking about it.

I 100% agree with you. I don't really get seriously depressed or cry, but I feel for the characters. Just like any book, movie, anime or other such show I watch.

As for reading Katawa Shoujo...read it! Its free, fairly short, and gives you all the feels.

Haha Yes the vn got me where it hurt most. Mainly because I wasn't born perfect or inhuman, Was born with autism. I don't judge others the way they did to me and everyone has beauty and perfect in there own way. Katawa Shoujo showed me to never give up on life and there is always someone there for me. Glad i waited and met my wife Diane we been together for 5 years now and got our own baby girl now :)
