Looking for VN's (details in post)

Hi, I very recently finished Comyu, and I thought it was awesome! I really want to find another Visual Novel with serious tones while still staying light in some parts. I also read G Senjou No Maou which is a great example of what I asked for above. Also, try to keep them recent, so like 2007-Present, unless they are really good. I want a Male Protagonist and Route choices as well, but if it's really good, the multiple romance routes aren't needed. Lastly, they have to be in English since I can't read Japanese, and I would appreciate it if they were already on Fuwanovel for me to download. Thanks!

Lemme see, Sharin no Kuni and Fate / Stay Night might both fit.. and are both older. SnK was written by GSNM's writer, and both of the two are classics. They both get grimmer by the end, but then again, so does GSNM.

I'm reading Sharin no Kuni atm, but after going like 20 hours into it I have to take a break from it. (The 20 hours has been over the course of 2 or so weeks, just to clarify :P )

Asfor Fate/ Stay Night I'm not really interested. I saw the anime and I didn't really enjoy it. Is the VN a lot better?

You should definitely go for Ayakashibito. You could also try Aoishiro, Rewrite, Ever17 -the out of infinity- and Eien no Aselia -The Spirit of Eternity Sword-.

Ever17 interests me a lot actually. Isn't it the third or fourth game in the series? If so, do I have to read the other 2 or 3 to understand 17? Thanks :D

I was actually looking into that one, but I saw a lot of people saying it had extremely tedious point and click sections that tend to end up with bad endings everywhere.

It's actually not that tedious, it's just that this part doesn't bring much to the game. Because you can get a bad end very easily for having missed one stupid thing during the "clue-searching" point&click scene.

Honestly, just use a walkthrough as soon as you're stuck. The game is really worth it. Do be aware that it probably classifies as an utsuge so despite the lighthearted moments it's still overall depressing.

Is the VN a lot better?

The Fate route (which was the part adapted in 2006) is the worst route of the three. The VN could get you interested I think.

They're pretty much all independent.

The anime is a pretty poor adaptation and it only covers the Fate route. That's only 1/3rd of the game. I'd say give it a try, it's easily among my favorite visual novels. The world building is superb if you're into that kind of thing and the only real questionable downside imo is that it's very lengthy.

You might enjoy Grisaia no Kajitsu. There's a (long) comedic common route before it shifts into a more serious tone for each of the 5 heroines routes.

I'll second Okami's recommendation of Ayakashibito.

I'll also throw Deardrops, Kira*Kira, and d2b vs Deardrops out there.

my standard list of recommendations, hope it hellps.

Fate/stay night is a must play. It is nothing like the anime thing that carries its name. (well we do now in the unlimited blade works adaption)

And we just have a new patch that has translated the realta nua version of the game. (wich is an all ages game so it does away with the H stuff and replaces it by something else)

http://vndb.org/v11

Tsukihime Another must play, and no this one does not have a anime adaption.

http://vndb.org/v7 (it is ancient, got no voice and no music. But it is so good)

Muv Luv series, now Muv Luv extra is not that good and Unlimited is merely good but alternative is definitly a must read and to understand it completely you need to have read these two first.

(I so hope muv luv alternative get's an anime adaption at some point)

http://vndb.org/v93 (extra/unlimited) yes they are packed into one game

http://vndb.org/v92 (alternative)

g senjou maou Is also a must read.

http://vndb.org/v211

clannad is also a must read and is together with fate/stay night one of the vn flagships, muv luv can possible also be considered a flagship.

http://vndb.org/v4

Other than that there is Grisaia no Kajitsu wich is also a must read. (By the way, no panty shots in this one, just sex jokes by amane instead)

http://vndb.org/v5154.
