H-Scenes. Really necessary?

Don't get used to it and you won't feel the need, it's as simple.

Yeah H is mostly fan service, so people don't have to wait for lame doujinshi's to see their favorite heriones having sex.

And as Nosebleed said it increases the sales.

H-scenes increase sales? Well, considering the market for VNs is collapsing in Japan, it's not doing a very good job :P

H-scene's eh? well I gotta admit I have a fondness for them because most of the first visual novels i played have them.  But, I shall fully concede it is mostly fan service.  However, I will also admit that when an h-scene is actually plot relevant. I sometimes re watch them. lol

Absolutely not. I agree that in a few cases they may advance the plot or make interactions with girls in dating esque games more sincere but in most cases it's pure fanservice. I'm stunned that there are people that exist that would stop playing eroge if there was no sexual content. If thats really all you're looking for than there are countless other mediums better for that.

I personally think that most of the time, sex scenes provide nearly no progression to the story and have no relevance to say the least. I suppose it has been the trademark of Visual Novel, and is blatantly added to illustrate the peak of a relationship for viewer satisfaction. Or to fap, which I imagine is why some people play at all.  -_-

I may be missing something. Would anyone like to provide me an example of a well put and relevant h-scene? Do explain

There is really no such thing as well put and necessary H-scene, even if sex is necessary to the story (which is very rare) it still doesn't justify H-scenes as it's not like they can't let you know that two characters are having sex without giving you porn.

I actually don't mind H-scenes all that much as long as the plot is good. There's some eroge, otome, and BL games I really want to start playing more. Although, I have to admit, I started playing DRAMAtical Murder because I'm more into the yaoi aspect but after starting the game, I'm getting really interested in the plot more than anything.

There's some genres I want to avoid (Loli and Shouta especially or if rape scenes are just there for no reasons or whatever) but H-scenes as a whole don't bother me unless that's all there is. :\a

I suppose adding a sex scene between Nagisa and Tomoya would ruin the entire visual novel.

I've never encountered any necessary h-scene since I started playing, but the closest would be the rape scenes from Saya no Uta. Not that I have a rape fetish, but I think that the sheer horror of those scenes really contributed to the terrifying tone of the game, and made me sympathize with the characters involved much better.

Dude talk about it!!! I'm soooo glad there were no H-scenes in Clannad, I probably would be depressed if I saw Nagisa on a situation like that, even if she indeed were in a situation like that, I'm glad I didn't see it.

Of course she has, they made an Ushio Okazaki. I love how it's only implying that they have slept together, and it's certainly a rare occurrence in a VN where the heroine had sex because she wants a family, instead of just for the joy of it.   ^_^

OK, now I can't unsee that.

Indeed is a rare occurrence but also that's the reason about why Clannad is an 'all ages' VN.

Of you want to see some action, you read 'Tomoyo after then.

There are many VNs that uses the 'sex under the necessity' or such, and I'm my opinion, I don't like them. Is mostly because they lack the 'feel' factor...

Still Ikikoi and Wanko were fun. I admit that I've read them only because I found the heroines cute/hot.

  • 4 weeks later...

I personally don't want sex scenes in any visual novels I play. I get that sex sells and it's going to happen, but I view characters in a way that they should be respected. I'm not saying put a ban on the H-content, but I at least wish that every game had an all ages version.

Then again, last summer when MoeNovel brought over If My Heart Had Wings they decided to do some censorship. That was kind of cool, but they ended up over-censoring the game to the point where even hugging was cut out... Not cool man, I need the hugs...

I think is a "why not" thing. I don't think that H-Scenes are "necessary", but i think they are to fit in the situation (Fate Stay/Night COUGH! *pukes all over the place*) and they usually are there to add fanservice and "romance conexion" if you know what I mean. Generally speaking I like the H-Scenes because they show me perverted side of the heroines *wink wink* Who the hell does not want to know how your favorite moe heroine acts during sex? I do

I respect the Vn's that don't have H-Scenes as well. They tend to be more serious about the drama and all that stuff and in most-cases are not needed because the romance thing plays a secondary role or something like that (I haven't play Clannad but i watched the anime. I know that it was a "inoccent" romance and there was no really need for H-Scenes; One had akwards H-Scenes but I feel they filled they purpose; Rewrite is out of the question; Muv-Luv Alternative's story was all serious and I think the H-Scene in particular was needed.

NO NOT THE TENTACLES SCENE I HATED THAT ONE WHY TENTACLES JESUS CHRIST

)

Or I am just a perverted and I love any H-Scene that pops out in a VN =_=

Only you can figure that out *dramatic tone*

I think they can be used well to enforce emotional moments... but they can also take me out of the story when done poorly.

Another thing that's sort of a pet peeve is H-scenes that are too frequent.  For example, I was genuinely interested in Wanko to Kurasou's plot, and then like 10 hours in it decided to turn into borderline nukige (but then got serious again near the end)... or, another example I played more recently, on Touka's route in Ayakashibito -- if you choose after her first H-scene to remember your other student council members it treats you to three H-scenes all in a row. This is a big surprise for what is otherwise a very story driven game, and I found by the end of it I just wanted the plot to go on.

I actually liked that one. It fit the atmosphere of the story perfectly

though it doesn't really explain *why* it happened, since they weren't supposed to view humans as lifeforms so making them submit doesn't make sense and in itself was done really well with all the moans in the background and narrated in a calm tone of voice, *watery* visuals and with being a popular fetish, as well as a mild shock. As someone once said, it might just have eaten up half the game's budget.

I think the drama itself was necessary to relieve some akwardness that Takeru and Sumika still had after their reunion and "rehabilitation". But the suddenly "wild rape tentacle scene" was kinda......not necessary and you answered that with the question "why?".

Why the heck would they bring that up and left it like some trivial experiment that the BETA made for fun (because that seems like the case).

I think that when utilized properly H-Scenes can be used to show a helpful degree of intimacy.

Sex scenes are something that exist in a lot of all adult themed media, but when you watch it you don't need to read about it so it's understandable why people don't want to have to read 40 lines about how it makes the MC feel.

Most japanese created characters have a seriously prudish attitude towards anything that could be construed as sexual behavior and at times it can hurt character development.

A problem I had with Clannad was that

Nagisa felt more like a roommate than a girlfriend who lived with you and her pregnancy seemed to come out of nowhere.

I strongly dislike h-scenes, but I don't let whether a game has them or not limit what I play.

There's only been one game where I've ever straight up quit playing because of an h-scene.

The first h-scene in Ayakashibito (roughly 90 mins into the VN) had me going "NOPE".

Basically, 200+ year old near omnipotent creature needs potty training from the protag which awkwardly ends with him rubbing her off over the toilet until she sprays piss everywhere because his hand slipped from her stomach to her vag.

I've put up with a lot of terrible fan service and bad writing, but this particular scene had me uninstalling the game moments later.

I should file charges against the developers for attempted murder.

That facepalm nearly broke my neck.

Was that a h-scene? Didn't even realize.

I don't know what else it would be classified as.

It's not an elaborate multi-CG scene with 20 minutes of slurping sounds, but I'd definitely still call it an h-scene. :P
