Your first VN experience

My first was Katawa Shoujo, and it wouldn't be too far from the truth to say that it had a profound effect upon my life by more or less being the trigger for me getting into visual novels/anime/etc. It also acted as a neat little emotional release, which I needed at the time of reading.

I also didn't fap for, like, three weeks after reading it cos the feels were just too intense.

Pretty sure we've done this thread before :illya:

Lol sorry about that. I didn't check for older posts. I guess I'll take this opportunity to say "Maybe I'm just reviving the post? (Lame excuse)"

Maybe we can rephrase it to, "How Many People Had a Non H-Scene Visual Novel As Their First Like That Valmore Guy Did?" X-D

After watching hentai resort boin, i googled it and found it on VNDB, i wondered what vndb is, so i digged a bit and then came up to visual novel and googled it too. Then i was looking for some VN's online... i didn t really know what was it so i wasn t about to pay for something that i never heard about. So i found a short visual novel on some site... its name is My sexy anthro. Ofc, i googled what is anthro when i saw it, but they even explain it in the novel is it was useless. Anyway i played it, got interested, looked for more, found episode 2, found out that there s no episode 3 so i was sad and looked for other novels... That was my road to VN stuff.

Was good fapping material, though.  Lol.

My first vn was Ace Attorney and it all came about because of the "Objection!!!" Meme rage that was filling the internet back then. I was like "WTF is this nonsense and what's so funny about it?"

Next thing I know I was losing plenty of hours of sleep because I was so fixated in clearing every route of Ace Attorney and trying out different things to solve the case (I played this game without a walkthrough because I was an internet scrub and did not know those existed...) It was all worth it though because it's a really well designed game and has one of the smartest waifus in history, Ema Skye!

My first VN was True love. It was a long time ago. I was just a stupid horny teenager and I thought it was some kind of Porn RPG :ph34r:I really liked it, finished all the routes and restarted it multiple times.

You know, technically, Ace Attorney must have been my first VN as well. That was long, long before I really got into anime, though. I got a bit annoyed with it (mostly with searching for evidence), so I eventually dropped it, which I sometimes regret...

I wasn't too fond of reading back in the day, but after watching the Kanon 2006 anime I was curious to know how Shiori's route was originally. It took me forever to finish just that one route, but I ended up liking it way better than the anime, even despite the drawing style. To this day I still haven't read Mai and Ayu's route, lol.

Oh, but if we count less traditional VNs, I actually read Ace Attorney many years before. I think it's been over 8 years, now.

My first was Summer Session.  At the time I didn't know it was part of a genre called Visual Novels.  I played a few more by that company (College Romance and Flower Shop) before deciding they were crap.  Next up was 999.  I really loved it, but never considered Zero Escape VNs until I first came to Fuwanovel.  The first VN I played knowing it was a VN was Katawa Shoujo.  Never did play all the routes.

I can't really remember the EXACT first VN I played- it was some old JAST title, I think though. Largely you just had to roam around until you'd triggered all the h-scenes and then there was one ending with the gal I liked the least out of the cast.

Not a very rosy start.

The first VN I remembered LIKING was Nocturnal Illusion/s (I forget if it was a plural or not)- still had the same sort of 'roam around until you bump into the hentai scenes, rinse, repeat' sort of formula... but there was some vague horror-y/fairytale motifs and at the time I was quite happy to find that you could PICK which heroine you ended up with, even if it was off of a drop-down list.

Of course I've since moved on to more involved VNs (and at the time I didn't even know there was a GENRE call 'visual novel'), but for some reason that game has always stuck in my head.

I first heard of the visual novel Genre through the blogs of the Author of Megatokyo, (Fred Gallagher) He raved about Air and how great it was and even did a couple of parody pieces in his webcomic.

As my interest in Anime/Manga grew I became more interested in VN's and actively went looking for them. Found Katawa Shoujo, Played it, Loved it. (and Lilly. Lilly - best girl!)
Then found FuwaNovel, finally played Air, clannad and then Joined this community.

Since then I've become rather picky about VN's. I really have to enjoy the artwork before I'll even look at the story. Fault, Cartagra etc are the style of art I particularly enjoy.

I think KS opened a lot of doors for me, and I still like re-reading it now and then. Even if it is just to pay a certain blind girl a loving, sentimental visit.

Was it a dungeon crawler? Was it Lightning Warrior Raidy?
