tell me Japan is joking

Judging from the BS that often ends up on various major news publishing services, it must be really hard for people to distinguish between facts and myths, fiction and reality; the fact is that child porn features real kids, who are either forced to act or become the rape victims and it should be banned, while the "childlike" characters featured in the art aren't real at all. There's no correlation between the two, unless someone finds an amusing idea to draw fictional characters based on real people (in this case, kids); it often becomes an excellent excuse for various parties to force the general thought that if "manga and anime" allows such possibilities to happen, it means it supports that kind of option alltogether and therefore, should be banned or heavily restricted.

It's not that simple as some of you may think. The only hope remains within mature and non-biased people with proper knowledge being a part of ruling parties and guess what - that's the same as hoping for this world to become a better place someday.

So nobody here knows that this is old news, like 15 years old stuff just updated?

"Japan had earlier banned the production and distribution of child pornography in 1999." And now they just added that possession of child pornography is illegal too.

In short, if you weren't caught buying it, it didn't matter if it were found in your possession. Is that supposed to be good enough? Of course not. This is big news.

Just to but in here, I feel like Japanese politicians must be embarrassed to have to deal with the customs of the younger generation. They're all trying to preserve social order and whatnot, while the upcoming generation of legislators has gibibytes of loli tentacle rape on their computers. I just find it funny. -_-

Lol A tad too late I suppose XD

Just a quick note for those who said not another loli thread

The note: u don't like it get out no one asked your opinion in lolis let the loli fans talk

Lolis!!!

It's illegal to commit murder, but it is legal to produce FPS games and hack and slash games.

It's basically the same thing.  It's exploitation (child porn) vs complete fiction (anime/manga/VN lolis).

The argument that loli anime/manga/VNs should be illegal is the same one the idiots over here try to use to make violent video games illegal.

^ Yeah it gets really hilarious when they go nuts and say 'CHILD PORN' when it's complete fictional ... It's 2D porn, idiots.

Those arguments don't work within the "adult" world; in best case they'd say you're promoting child porn by publishing and discussing such works, in worst you'd be accused of being either a potential pedophile or having contacts with them. World isn't as bright as you paint it.

I'm preety much happy, since this is some sort of an agreement between all the parties - in the end, the other side was present during the settlement as well - and after that they might actually f*ck off completely, at least for a longer while. It's been always like that and best if it will remain this way.

I wasn't speaking an absolute ethical basis... I was speaking for the simple fact that it is exactly the same argument, from a sophist's point of view.  I understand there is a subjective difference between the two arguments in people's minds, but in the rational sense, there isn't.  In any case, the basis for making kiddy porn illegal is that it is exploitation, which happens to be true.  I mean, if someone takes naked pictures of you while you sleep and distributes them, that's exploitation as well.  Either way, it is a crime with a victim (here is the key point).  I don't believe in creating 'victimless crimes' through legislation in order to socially engineer.

Edit: Before someone asks, yes I am pro drug legalization.  My logic is that there is no point in doing anything beyond taxing the drugs; making it a crime to operate machinery, drive, or handle a weapon while under the influence; and creating regulations and standards to keep makers from cutting with poisons.  If people want to die of overdoses or become brainless addicts, that's their problem, not mine.  Making stuff like that illegal just attracts the 'forbidden fruit' morons like flies to shit and actually increases the number of addicts, as well as the burden they put on the rest of us.

For emphasis: I don't believe in 'victimless crimes'.

Read this article a few weeks ago and I gotta wonder why Japan would ban child porn in the first place yet not ban possession of it. That's like saying you can't kill people but it's cool if you just happen to have their bodies in your closet.

Doesn't affect anime/vn/manga regardless, so I'm not really inclined to care about this :S.

It is not really true that these arguments don't work in the "adult" world. Lately a lot of pedophiles got caught in this country (day care, swimming instructors), and they're really trying to look for a solution to "cure" and "help" these people who have the desire to have/watch sex with young kids. One of the possible solutions for the near future they thought about was allowing them to watch drawed porn, so they could deal with their sexual frustrations without having to abuse real children. You can have your own opinion about people actually physically desiring the 2D but as long as they leave the kids alone you can't punish them for what they like.

Loli's are art (Not all 'art' is art tho). Child porn is child porn. Pretty much loli≠RL children, 2D≠3D

Most the world won't see it logically as that as a lot of people are saying in this thread. I pretty much agree on that. Hopefully the lobbyists won't affect the work of the anime, vn and manga business.

I am afraid they will slowly reduce the amount the business can express itself. After a while affecting more sectors. Might be very far into the future. Never the less... Cause of worry.

I support this new law OP posted btw, if someone wondered about that lol.
