Untranslated VNs discussion

Recommended Posts

We already have a similar topic, but after several of years reading about Saya and Clannad and any other English translated VN, I'm a bit tired and now find those discussions uninteresting. Don't take it wrong, I do read English translated VNs, but It's really easy to find someone to talk about them now. Still it's much harder to do with untranslated VNs, and maybe this kind of topic can even help a TL group to decide on their next project. I know several people here who do read Japanese, and it'd be much easier to share our thoughts within a separate thread.

TL/DR: let's try to start a dedicated thread to discuss untranslated VNs.

Recently I've finished the first Tiny Dungeon game (want more Fon's voice) and now about to start my next Jp VN. I'll continue with TD later, but for now I'd like to have some imoutos. It doesn't seem that we'll be having SakuSaku patch released soon, so this is my number one candidate for now. But there are two more options - Caramel Box Great Art and Random Moe Imouto. I doubt any of the two can win against SakuSaku in terms of art and imouto, but what do you think? Maybe you have something to suggest?

I'm currently playing Venus Blood Gaia, the latest game in the Venus Blood series.  I'm always impressed how Dualtail manages to pack together so much tentacle ero with a compelling storyline.  The gameplay gets better and better with each iteration of the series too.  They've refined it to the point that the gameplay is almost up there with top tier eroge RPGs.  There's dungeon building and defense, a complex system of skills and affinities, monster breeding and stat customization, item collection and resource management, on top of the interactions with heroines that unlock H-scenes, power them up, and unlock endings.

Apparently Caramel Box Great Art is much darker then the others. For Imouto's, only thing that comes to mind is Hapymaher (two imoutou's for the price of one!), but I think you dropped it a while back. Here's another moe atmosphere game with high rating and art: http://vndb.org/v14062. Bolverk is playing it atm, and I plan on giving it a soon.

I had an eye on the Tiny Dungeon series before. Something about swords and medieval fantasy, I think I could enjoy as long as characters are fun even with weak plot.

Try Clochette's games (other than Suzunone).  They each have a great oniichan-obsessed imouto.

Semiramis no Tenbin doesn't have an imouto, it just has an imouto-like kouhai and a really dark story.  Sakusaku has a mild imouto (by normal oniichan-loving standards) and a loli-shinigami who is like a second imouto.  Love Sweets is just another low-quality Moonstone moege.

VNs with great imoutos (other than the ones made by Clochette).

Did you play all games in the series? There are so many and it seems too late to hop in at this point. I like gameplay+story formula, as in Corona and Soukoku, but I'm not a fan of tentacles and rapes. I can see some delicious lolis, but there are tentacles everywhere...

Yeah, protag in Hapymaher was annoying, but I enjoyed the opening!

Majo has a great art, and loli principal looks realy cute, but I don't think there's a protag's imouto there. Anyway, I should get this, thanks (I wonder why haven't done it till now).

As for Tiny Dungeon, the first game was pretty generic for the most part, but the ending managed to surprise me. Characters are mostly likeable, and if you have a thing for really strong girls you'd definitely find this appealing.

Well, Clochette imoutos are too big in breasts department to be perfect :) Too bad about love sweets though...

I haven't played only 3 games from the list above, and yes, I agree that these were great imoutos in those I've played. Should try to get these 3, thanks.

Really liking the art of Majo koi nikki. The characters are quite moe I'd say. Not sure how serious this vn is. It sometimes goes slightly serious but that changes very fast. Find reading about the protag in the diary quite awesome, he is quite the arrogant ass haha.

Read your review about Majo Celphas, hopefully I won't mind the cons you described.

Nearly all of the characters in Majo are 'leaning' into the loli side. Not many of them are loli's though.

I honestly don't understand why people don't like oppai-imoutos...

Nothing against oppai-imoutos. As long as not half of the heroines are Kyonyuu and the imouto being one of them. Luckely Aki was not a that in Reminiscence :D

Talk about imouto, how about Tenshin Ranman or Amairo? Sana and Airi are just purrfect XD

Yep, Sana is okay, but she's

not a blood-related one.

And my favorites were Ruri and Hime :)

Sometimes I'm head over heels for them, but they should be more than just good, either in terms of personality or route.

Leave some feedback here when you're done with it, if you please.

I've played Empire, Abyss, Frontier, and Gaia.  Each game stands alone--there's no need to have played earlier games in the series, and there's not much shared mythology.  Gaia is a fine point to jump in, and it certainly has the best gameplay in the series to date.

While some of the Venus Blood games can be pretty dark, Gaia is fairly tame because the protagonist is a rational idealist and not driven by revenge.  Corruption is also not a central theme as it was in Empire and Frontier.  Most of the sex scenes are "optional", and there's even a menu option to skip them entirely.  The "rape" is mostly consensual, and the heroines ultimately agree to the humiliating treatment for story-related reasons: their role as incubators for the super soldiers is necessary to preserve the way of life they're fighting for.  The game, like most games in the series, has two distinct routes, with one route being rapey and dark and the other being more normal.  Tentacles feature prominently in most of the H-scenes, but there's also scenes with the protagonist and each heroine copulating normally and even lovingly.  The protagonist is certainly a pervert, but much of the sex is for furthering his agenda, which usually coincides with the heroines' long-term agenda (if not their immediate agenda :P).  The H-scenes themselves compose an optional story arc for each character and some are fairly well written as far as H-scenes go, making them more than just superfluous fap material.

I just finished Hello Lady yesterday, it's better than I thought though the art and eru's CV kinda bothered me. Now I was planning to play 翠の海 but some of my friends recommended me 僕が天使になった理由 as one of the most underrated works of 2013, but again, that's coming from a diehard WA2 fanboy, so if anyone played this, please share your opinion.

If you like utsuge, try Konata yori Kanata Made, my favorite utsuge.

not really a fan of utsuge but seems interesting, I'll check it out, thanks.

ahh, mangagamer is really planning to release all of OD's novels ain't it. but I've always preferred playing the original, so I wouldn't consider that.

翠の海、The mystery/atmosphere is interesting/captivating for about the first half, but heroine routes lose a lot of their interest after you finish like two or three because the circumstances become known. Fair amount of 'alright' slice of life, but I suppose that "life" turns out to be an important topic later on. The music is great by the way.

Sounds quite interesting, wish there was an option to convert all tentacle H-scenes to normal ones :)

Well, I'll give it a try next time I want a gameplay VN, thanks for details!

anyone interested in Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm? Just played the trial, quite interesting~

Mind telling me what exactly did you find interesting in it? I definitely heared about it, but since I can't remember what it is about - it didn't catch my attention.

I agree on the most part, but I finished 5 heroines w/o getting bored. Really nice atmosphere, somewhat deep characters and interesting developments. Still one-of-a-kind VN for me.

Hmm. So far the only JP VNs I've read have been Majikoi and Tsujidou-son no JuAin Road. I keep trying to read Tiny dungeon but get distracted. I made it a project to read that and Ichiban Janakya dame desuka. Both on rec from Clephas. I'll try again in 2 weeks. I've been studying for it.

Of the Vns I've read so far without a doubt Majikoi is my favorite. The characters are unbelievably well done. The story is good but no ground breaker. tsujidou had good music and good characters but I put it on a hiatus because of the lame ending I heard the story had and because the Characters do not interact much outside their own routes.

BTW. When I say majikoi I mean the untranslated parts of Majikoi and Majikoi S and Majikoi A1-A3. So about 4 visual novels worth I guess.

Since I'm seeing to much imouto talk in this thread, I'll just say that I've seen many imouto games, though really don't read them in the best way.

I'mma try this for now... http://vndb.org/v7066

http://vndb.org/v8037<< Most .... Imouto-themed VN I've seen so far..

Done long time ago, and even Imosen FD...

Galette is more into lolis than imoutos, but I don't really mind. Too bad they never did anything above average though.

It's not that I'm into cute little imoutos – I like them mentally mature and more cool, with some nice story and close-to-real "forbidden love" development. Hope SakuSaku that I've started reading yesterday can give me some of these :)
