Sunrider is an original english language visual novel that had a very successful kickstarter back in december. It features strategic turn based combat in space and a harem style space opera narrative. More information is available on the main site at http://sunrider-vn.com/ and the official wiki.

The music and tactical combat in this game are probably the biggest highlights, but the story, art and dialogue are also really good. Some very talented voice actresses have also lent her voice to the characters (in combat only) like Amber Lee Conners and Kira Buckland. (google them if you don't know the names. you will know their work).

I think it would be great if this game could be featured on this website :)

there will be 3 main parts to the game. the first part features 6 'episodes' and is first time playing around 8 hours long I guess.

previously beta 1, 2 and 3 were released exclusively for backers of the game. this release could be considered beta 4 in that regard. each release built upon the last and added a lot of new content and mechanics.

there is no sex in part 1 but it does feature some nudity. later parts will be 18+ rated.

hum, alright, I was thinking this would be an eroge, from the fact that you said the word 'harem' and the...ahem, body pillows. anyways, I think it looks nice and the setting seems unique enough, (I don't see many /space/ VNs that catch my eye, I'll be honest) so you've got my interest, don't let go of it now!

It will be an eroge when it's finished, but it's not quite that right now. Try it out though! I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised :D

and you've got the 2nd half with another 6 episodes to look forward to in the moderate future when you've finished it. :P

Played up until I think the end (the game looped back automatically, and I did the escort battle second (it was the only battle that took me multiple tries).

The story is space opera but on the light end. Choosing where to go in the ship, starmap, and upgrades gives you a sense of direct agency, but the dialogue and story isn't that strong. Even so, since the game structure and setting combined is unique, it still is exiciting, if not more of a game with story, than a story with gameplay. Which is fine, because the gameplay is fun. If the non-gameplay storytelling or character depth increases later, then I'm looking forward to that as well.

There isn't much numerical explanation in-game, but I was able to figure out most things (except flak and the range).

edit: never mind it shows number of hits.

Just started Sunrider and so far it's fun while being technically disappointing. The writing is quite weak. That's to be expected though, and I used to read plenty of fanfiction so I'm used to weak writing. I'll soldier through because it has been quite entertaining so far.

It's very impressive for a free game anyway.

I have no love for modern space operas with mechs based on weeaboo-japanesque settings. I'm really impressed with your team's overall efforts on pulling off a decent tactical turn based game, but Sunrider's writing is quite dissapointing; as Rooke stated above, it reads preety much like some sort of a poor fanfiction based off japanese works, rather than author's own imagination; character art and cg's are amateurish and completely not on par with the rest of the game's graphics; they do not meld well with the 3d renders either. Despite it trying to be a big game with funding, the overall vibe the Sunrider gives off is still far from proffesional and polished. Music and turn-based combat are propably the only important qualities the game has to offer, since the strategy parts are really enjoyable, despite their repeatability and music creates a nice atmopshere for the game.

Sunrider still feels more like a prototype, than a full-fledged game. Keep on going, though; one day you'll make great things, I'm sure of that.

For those who didn't knew, there is going to be a spin-off called Sunrider Academy. They're currently doing a mini-crowd funding to hire μ (ミュゥ) and Takanashi Keita for the OP. In case anyone is interested in helping them, here's the link for both the announcement and the crowdfund.
