Summer 2014 Anime Discussion

The part with the Fairy King antagonist guy and Asuna was as rapey as a PG-13 show can get, I would say. There were those tentacle monster guys too, when Asuna tried to escape the place. I mean, was them being tentacle monsters really necessary? -_-

Anime without tentacles? There's things that are possible, there's things that are impossible and then there's stuff that simply doesn't exist in this realm in any form. This is the latter.

In fact there'll probably be tentacles in SAO 2 as well.

The single for the second opening of Mahouka has been released. I really like this OST. GARNiDELiA's voice got me ever since Kill la Kill's Ambiguous single. Her voice just has something..

It's below Aldnoah.Zero's god tier ear porn but it's still one of my favs.

Finally we get to GGO!

Thank you SAO. It took a while.

It still felt like the episode was needlessly extended but it was nice seeing some GGO mechanics so i'm more satisfied than I was with the first couple episodes.

Although I love how Kirito was able to correctly hold a hand gun without ever shooting one.

There was also the "I've already gone by 10000 people but i'll stop and talk to the one character that's standing in the middle of the road alone that was previously shown before so we know they're going to have a connection later on. It also happens that everyone disappears in the meantime as if the city is no longer populated by anyone helpful" cliché

But anime logic, I won't question it.

Finally something to look forward to. I want to see how his playstyle will be.

He's a Jedi with a pistol now. Feel the Force, Kirito!  ^_^

Kirito became a Jedi. But leaving that aside, today's episode was quite good. Aniplex doesn't fail to amaze me with their beautiful animation.

When someone becomes a Jedi, the storm trooper effect starts to kick in. ;)

Well, at least the bullets hit something in SAO.

You know I just wondered something about SAO.

I notice that a lot of female characters in game are grabbed by tentacles and whatnot and they pull their skirts down and stuff.

This implies that the game is rendering, at least their underwear, and possibly more (can't get proof of that "more" though).

I don't know about you but i don't know how the government is allowing a game where real girls (portrayed by their in-game avatars) can get their underwear seen by everyone, to be publicly available. While you may argue that it's not the actual person but an avatar, i still believe the feeling of getting your underwear seen would be quite the same.

This also means that if the game renders every part of their body, actual teenagers could be using their rendered parts for completely ethical and healthy physical activity anytime they want.

This just made me question the ethics of the SAO universe a little. But hey maybe in the SAO universe it's okay for this to happen. Who am I to question anime logic right? :P

And for the record, I'm all for fanservice, I am a healthy human being with needs, i was just questioning some of the plot.

They are also able to stimulate senses as though it's real right? That would also make for a very effective form of contraception. o.0

So a game where teenagers can have sex with each other was made legal in Japan in the SAO universe?

Well okay then. Japan's laws really changed in the future it seems. :P

Well... there was that scene in the first series when it was about to happen so I don't see why it can't be a possibility.

No no i get that it's a possiblity and it's implied.

And it's because of that that I'm questioning how can a government allow for a game like that to be available to teens, since it's obviously forbidden by japanese law for teens to do that kind of stuff without parental consent.

I get that it's for fanservice and i shouldn't question it, but i thought i'd question it for once.

But hey since the SAO universe is set in the future, i'll just assume the law changed.

So yeah Kirito you can go and use your light saber the way you see fit.

next thing they implement into the games- 'Parental Control'. "Hey son... What are you doing? This feature will allow no girl to come within a 50 metre radius from where you are. I'm going to turn it on now."

It was mentioned in the Light Novel that the ability to have sex was an added option secretly added in the full version of the game. Kirito mentions it was something in the options called "Ethics Off" that didn't make an appearance in the beta. As for panty shots and such (thinking Silica episode), it can happen in real life, so why not in a game? Thinking of the Asuna episode though, unequiping clothes does seem like an... odd... feature to allow if it was in the Beta before too.

Yeah and how come this doesn't make one question how is the government allowing this? I mean maybe i'm the only one who thinks a 40 year old would use a younger avatar and do that kind of stuff with a teen in game is unethical. Maybe i'm just odd for thinking that :P

But yeah, kind of a fishy game, ethics wise.

Nononono, it's not hypothetical you two. If you've ever wanted to experience a bad h-scene in text format, go ahead and look up SAO chapter 16.5, in which Kirito and Asuna quite literally have sex in SAO (the game). It wasn't apart of the official publication, but was written by the author nonetheless, so may as well be canon.

So I decided to start with a couple shows and work my way from there.  So far, Akame ga Kill hasn't really grabbed me, but I see some potential.  I'll keep watching it for now.  Just watched the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul, and it has me a bit more interested.  After I finish that one, I''ll likely give Aldnoah.Zero a shot and maybe a slice of life show for some variety.

I'm basically stalling for time until Hanamonogatari starts at this point.

After having watched most of last week's episodes, here my current top 5 of the season so far :

1. Barakamon  I had a really good feeling about this when I saw the manga at my local store and have not been disapointed so far.  Really my favorite kind of slice-of-life.

2. Zankyou no Terror  Great seinen thriller like we get too few of, I'm really enjoying it so far.  As of this episode I'm not sure if I want to root for the terrorists or the police.

3. Akame ga Kill!  The hype was right, great action show with interesting characters and story.

4. SAO2  I wasn't all that hyped after the ALO arc, but I've been enjoying it so far.  Sinon is my new favorite SAO girl.

5. Hanayamata  My surprise of the season, I would've probably missed it if a friend hadn't mentionned it.  Really cute and amusing.

I've also been struggling not to drop Glasslip, have been kind of enjoying Tokyo ESP as a campy action show filled with all sorts of references and cameos, and have been falling behind on Blue Spring Ride.

Initial thoughts on Zankyou no Terror based on episode 1:

This, was pretty damn awesome; To be honest. This is by far my favorite show I've seen from the summer season. And I've only enjoyed 1 out of the 4 shows I've watched thus far. The thing that immediately impressed me was the music. Yoko Kanno is definitely a capable composer, up there with Hiroyuki Sawano and the other soundtrack giants in anime.

I've yet to find one character in this anime I don't like. Even a bit, I love the two main characters. I love the contrast between them both. Nine's charismatic and humorous personality really sets him at odds with twelve and his more brooding demeanor. Nine really does come off as a psycho at some points. Especially considering what he and twelve are doing in the anime. And Lisa, oh god, Lisa, she's my favorite character so far. The show really does make her situation seem genuine without trying to push pity or make the viewer feel like they should feel bad for her.

And the art style... Need I say more? It's fucking amazing.

Definitely keeping my eyes on this. Watching episode 2 right now. My only concern is that the anime wont stand to be too predictable. This is what I'm going to guess is going to happen:

Twelve begins to develop an emotional connection with Lisa. Lisa eventually convinces Twelve to stop committing Terrorism and stop hurting people. He complies, Nine is fucking insane and decides not to. Battle royale between childhood friends.

God please don't let that happen.

Serei Tsukai no Blade Dance has actually surprised me.

I came into this series with very low expectations to say the least.

The protagonist is not annoyingly dense (or other generic protag archtype) which is incredible.

Aside from that blue haired ponytail girl, the rest of the heroines aren't too bad.

Claire is my favorite, Tsunderes are always a hit or miss but Claire was a hit thank god.

I don't like the blonde girl as much but she's not too annoying for her type of character.

Est is really cute and I wish I could have her as my imouto, sadly Kamito refused to let her call him Onii-chan, what a wasted opportunity, if he had let her she would be my favorite.

Overall, although this formula is not super original (I get the Machine-doll vibes all over the place) the setting and characters is not too bad and i can say it's entertaining for what it is.

Seems like Zankyoku no Terror is quite liked here, havent catched it yet. Maybe i'll do so soon xD

I'm in the same boat. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the series, but I've had a friend urging me to watch it and a lot of people on this thread seem to love it as well. Seems like a good idea to pick it up. :P

Ao Haru Ride continues to impress me with each episode. But damn, previous shoujos have kinda killed this anime for me. XD One thing I've had the misfortune of adjusting to is their tendency to throw in some random gag when serious development occurs and it usually puts me off unless I brace myself for it. I'm still holding on to that habit with AHR, and it's become a detriment to my enjoyment since this series is actually putting effort into its atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I love the demographic, but damn those shoujos!

Yeah, I passed it off as another harem, but then instantly recognized the awesomeness of Claire, she isn't your stock tsundere who overreacts to every little thing but actually backs down when too embarrassed (that hit home for me, was too cute)

MC is awesome, his very first lines of the show I knew he wasn't going to be your typical pushover loser MC :P

For those wondering about watching Zankyou no Terror.

Don't wonder, just watch it.

The art is gorgeous, the plot is well constructed and it just drives you to want to watch more of it.

It's basically 2 guys toying with tokyo/police and doing terrorist acts, but that's just the surface, the very tip of the iceberg, the show is clearly hinting and something a lot deeper and they're slowly but surely showing more and more of it and the mystery is what really keeps you stuck to your seat.

The pacing is great.

The characters are not shallow (well maybe the girl is a little) and you just want to know more about the reason behind their actions.

And it's just a very solid show overall.

I would easily lump it together with Death Note because of the formula, remember how Kira made plans to toy with the police and stuff? This is kind of like that although the scenarios are very much different since in this case it seems to be for revenge and not to make the world a more peaceful place.

Except Zankyou no Terror's art is 10 times better than any other this season.

Just look at this fabulously drawn bastard

I was also hooked up by this show for the same reasons, but i have just 1 cons.

I don't feel any attachements to the protagonists of the story, for far now, i'm totally not concerned by Nine and Twelve, same thing for the girl and the super police officer, i just hope that the next episodes will show us more about the characters in order to hook us to their fate.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts in a highly comedic way:

Regarding Zankyou no Terror, I'm looking forward to it. I've yet been busy recently so even though I have the episodes downloaded I have yet to watch any. At this point I'm wondering if I should wait for the season to end and just marathon the whole thing.
