I actually prefer the slower pace of things. I find it wildly amusing that many people were complaining how fast things went in the first season yet the same people don't like the pace of season 2.

Honestly, I'm still enjoying the show. I just feel like 3 episodes to introduce a character is kind of... You know... I dunno about being a waste, but stretching it maybe? I'm cool with a slower pace, it's just if this is going to be a 13 episode season (I can't remember how it went for SAO) 3 episodes being down and out just to introduce a single character is mehhh. I mean hey, if they're gonna stretch it out, by all means.

I dunno, man. Rubbin' me the wrong way, lol. If they're gonna do GGO and Rosario back to back, that'd be nice, though. I'd appreciate that. There's certainly enough material for it. I just need stuffs to hold me over until mah gurl Chaika comes back in October.  ^_^

There's pacing of events and there's pacing of nothing.

SAO 2 is more of the latter.

We're not complaining about pacing, at least I'm not, we're complaining because we're not being given anything for 3 episodes already.

Isn't this supposed to attract people or make you entertained? Aren't the first episodes key to make you addicted to it?

So far it just feels like filler to feed hungry SAO fanboys that'll eat anything the studio will put on their plate.

It's not that I don't see why people don't like the first few episodes. its just amusing.

Anyway this season I'm liking Akame ga Kill and Glasslip. I'm watching others too but I just like those two a little more than the rest.

Not really, actually, because this is season 2. People know what they're watching, you don't have to hook them.

Honestly I don't really get all the hate SAO II gets, it just feels exactly as what SAO offered.

A game that kills people, a mysterious really evil bad guy, a depressive badass girl in distress, and Jesus-Kirito is called to save the day. Sounds like SAO alright.

We got the new characters introduced, we got some action, we got some drama and some tension, and we're ready to get rolling. Might be a tad long for an introduction but it's entertaining already by itself.

Well it's not like I'm hyped or anything, never been a big fan of SAO, but it looks alright so far.

I also finally had the time to watch some stuff from the new season:

-Barakamon: Really funny and pleasant slice of life. I've read the beginning of the manga, so I expected it to be nice anyway. Will definitely follow.

-Zankyou no Terror: good ol' Watanabe still knows how it's done. It's overall really well directed, the animation is good, despite there being a bit too much 3D for my tastes, and the action scenes are really well done. The story is enticing. I don't really like the chara-design and the colors but that's about all I can hold against it so far. Let's hope it develops into something interesting.

-Hanayamata: Doesn't look that bad of a usual club slice of life, and the subject is kinda original, but I'm not sure I'll follow, because in the end it's also plain.

-Space Dandy 2: Still one of the best animation I've seen in a while, and I still love the overall artistic direction and how each episode is strongly marked by its episode director.

But there's also lots of unbalance in the quality: while some few episodes are extremely well done, others are just all over the place and not so interesting, like the two first ones of this new batch. Hyped for the Yuasa episode that I haven't watched yet.

-Ao Haru Ride: Usually I like my shoujo comedic and with characters with strong personalities. But meh, this one doesn't look bad at all even though it doesn't really have those elements. Shoujo adaptation are kinda scarce and I do like them usually, so I'll follow.

-Sailor Moon Crystal: not-that-great and too detailed chara-design, inducing rigid faces and poor animation. Opening and henshin scenes are in 3D. Most of the old seiyuus didn't come back for their roles. Nope.jpg. Well I'll still follow, and cutting all the crap of the beginning of the old season 1 by sticking to the manga is probably a good call for the moment, but meh. I'm not even really a Sailor Moon fan to begin with so...

-Rokujouma whatever I've already forgotten the rest of the title: another "apartment complex with a bunch of crazy people" slice of life. I like those but this one looked plain and too harem-ish for me, so I dropped it.

I also have Aldnoah.Zero still in stock that I need to try out. With that and the leftovers from last season it's already quite a lot actually.

What do I miss? What's worth a shot that got under my radar?

Not really, actually, because this is season 2. People know what they're watching, you don't have to hook them.

I'm still feeling underwhelmed though. I get that most (if not all) people watching SAO 2 already watched season 1 and are hooked, I wasn't fully hooked but I enjoyed SAO despite its flaws, but that's because from the very beginning it had stuff going on in the virtual world. Here we're 3 episodes in and we're still in the real world which is the least interesting bit. I get that the killing premise is back which is great, that's what the 2nd arc of SAO failed miserably on, but they haven't been adressing it like they should in my opinion, it's beating around the bush to extend screen time, that's what it feels like to me and it just doesn't sit well for me.

I want to see GGO already, it's too much filler for 3 episodes in a row.

This was just like how I liked Date A Live season 1 mildly but season 2 disappointed me with the focus on all the wrong things.

Again, I'm still hopeful SAO 2 delivers, I am still trusting that there'll be some awesome action later on down the road, I'm not a major SAO hater, I just feel underwhelmed by all of this when I really want to see something big.

There's absolutely no reason SAO 2 can not surpass SAO's flaws, why should I sit around and expect the same flaws? That's treating your viewers like idiots in my opinion.

If anything I feel like this season does address some of SAO's flaws.

Basically, the reason why I don't understand why lots of people say that "nothing happens" is because episode 2 is mostly ingame action and introduction to what the fights will look like in this game, while episode 3 gives some crucial development to a character that should be really important during that arc.

Which fixes at least in part a few things, like the fact that there was a lack of world development and consistency in the first season (just compare to Log Horizon and it becomes blatant), and the fact that the drama in season 1 sometimes concerned people we couldn't care less about because we didn't know them.

Of course there are still things that don't work - for example, the deredere scenes with Asuna felt more cringeworthy than sweet, a symptom of the bad dialog writing that I've been complaining about since the very beginning of SAO. Or the fact that the drama is a bit cliche and roughly handled.

But it's quite far from being bad. Considering they don't have to hook up the watcher at the beginning, I prefer to have proper building, then climaxes with awesome action and twists placed in the more usual points of the story.

I still don't get why two entire episodes to introduce 1 single character. Or would you say you need 50 minutes for the actual story behind the character? One episode was a fight that had no relevance and was just showing some flashy bits of GGO with no explanation for the mechanics (part I most hated). The rest was just chitchat and reminding your viewers that there's actually something going on in the background while they're going on a tangent (Kirito rephrasing everything that was told in episode 1 at the end of episode 3 in case your viewers have a really short term memory).

That's what last episode felt like to me.

While I'm happy they introduce the characters more in depth and are making us care for them more, they're taking way too much time to do it in my opinion and going on needless tangents.

These are just my first impressions though, they're not great, but it doesn't mean they can't change, it's all up to what SAO does later on, again I'm still hopeful there'll be cool fighting scenes. I'm just not seeing the awesomeness of SAO 2 right now.

It's not that I think it's so appalling no one should watch it, i'm just humbly and honestly saying I'm bored and underwhelmed by it so far.

I admittedly have a bias towards enjoying slice of life anime (Watching Rail Wars, Jinsei, Barakamon and Glasslip) and while nothing groundbreaking, P.A. Works typically does a decent job with the series they do, but Glasslip just is not doing for me. Smells like a drop for me this season.

I wouldn't even say that most of their shows are decent. If you guys weren't aware of it before, I'm a pretty large PA Works hater, lol. The only time I'll ever watch their anime is if they have a really good writer for the story like Okada Mari (Hanasaku Iroha; Nagi no Asukara) or Maeda Jun (Angel Beats). Otherwise, I've been hugely disappointed with shows like Tari Tari and Another and I didn't see much promise at all with Glasslip. I'm glad I avoided the show since it seems like there aren't that many people that like it, and I've yet to see anyone get overly enthusiastic for it. They're always good for crisp animation, but I can't enjoy a series if that's all it has going for it (unless it has a sensational amount of money put into it).

I watched Tokyo Ghoul just now, and just gotta say this, that Taro-chan is not scary, I mean, he's just plain funny, lol.

And I'm really loving Glasslip so far, here are the couplings I want to see:

Hiro X Sachi

Yukinari X Touko

Okikura X Yanagi

The last two most likely won't happen, but it's what seems more right in my eyes. *-*

I like that pairing as well. However like you've said it's unlikely to happen.

Since most animes are past the third episode, I can now list the ones that I'll finish. Sorted by how I like them.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Jinsei

Akame Ga Kill

Rail Wars

Glasslip

Re: Hamatora

Tokyo ESP

Rokujouma

Blade Dance

Fate/Prisma 2

Rurumo

Dropped

SAO 2

I would like to add Space Dandy but I'm still on the first season.

This summer season is to my liking. After a kinda disappointed spring season, the summer season released quite a lot of good and original anime.

My top 5 of this season:

1. Glasslip - We've got another P.A. Works anime. It cannot fail after Nagi no Asukara last winter season. The animation, sound, and scenery are superb. Only the characters lack development, so I hope this will change later on.

2. Zankyou no Terror - This should be actually on the number 1 spot, but I'm a Slice of Life faggot, so I just can't bring myself to do so. This is so original that it makes my heart beat faster every time I watch it. I don't have a good feeling about the ending, though.

3. Sword Art Online II - Never hated SAO. Read all the light novels (that are currently published) and Aniplex managed to produce a second season with even better visuals. This season looks promising.

4. Aldnoah.Zero - I'm not into mecha anime, but instead of an overpowered pilot and his gundam, we've got humans vs. humans. The sound is basically ear porn and the art style makes your eyes crave for even more.

5. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - Romantic comedies. I just can't get enough of them. You've got the moe girl and lots of comedy. I love it.

Finally we get to GGO!

Thank you SAO. It took a while.

It still felt like the episode was needlessly extended but it was nice seeing some GGO mechanics so i'm more satisfied than I was with the first couple episodes.

Although I love how Kirito was able to correctly hold a hand gun without ever shooting one.

There was also the "I've already gone by 10000 people but i'll stop and talk to the one character that's standing in the middle of the road alone that was previously shown before so we know they're going to have a connection later on. It also happens that everyone disappears in the meantime as if the city is no longer populated by anyone helpful" cliché

But anime logic, I won't question it.

Finally something to look forward to. I want to see how his playstyle will be.

That episode of SAO2 was miles ahead of the first three, I was actually really enjoying it (Helps that Sinon's personality was showing, she takes a place in some of my favorite characters of all time). Surprised they changed something slightly from the LN, Kirito doesn't play up the trap, it's just a misunderstanding that he doesn't fuel himself.

Kirito's trappy avatar is really cute lol

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't start asking random people questions that are just hitting on me.

I don't care how many times people mention this.

The OST in Aldnoah.Zero is god tier.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't start asking random people questions that are just hitting on me.

What if she wanted to hit on him too? :o

It's not that he has to ask the guys who were hitting on him, are you saying out of thousands of people in that game everyone but the main character is a nice person? :P Sounds a little farfetched to say the least.

But that's how anime logic works, you just have to make the 2 main characters meet or else no plot progression.

Kirito became a Jedi. But leaving that aside, today's episode was quite good. Aniplex doesn't fail to amaze me with their beautiful animation.

On another note, Aldnoah.Zero is pure ear porn. The new ending 「aLIEz」 is so good! The soundtracks are awesome. Can't wait for the CD/BD to release.

I don't remember the rape though.

The part with the Fairy King antagonist guy and Asuna was as rapey as a PG-13 show can get, I would say. There were those tentacle monster guys too, when Asuna tried to escape the place. I mean, was them being tentacle monsters really necessary? -_-
