I just found out about this and it come out as quite a surprise. Until now I had pretty low opinion about MangaGamer believing that they didn't really care about expending VNs in a west and that all they wanted is to get some easy cash by localizing some shity nukiges which is why this come out as such a shock.

To tell you the truth, I just recently improved my opinion/hopes about western made VNs as up till recently I believed that they can never be on level of Japanese VNs and that VNs like Katawa Shoujo are rare exceptions.

But this, this is something that I would never had expected, so I am still not sure what to think about it, but I will definitely give it a try when it comes out, which is on 06.30.2014.

So what are your opinions on the matter?

Oh and heres more about a VN.

The trailer doesn't strike me as particularly good- it just shows the heroines and boobs. Not expecting much, maybe it'll be nice, though. I'll most likely try it out, but my expectations are low.

Ironically enough, I tend to rate VNs made in the west (well, serious ones) highly.

Yea, I agree about a trailer I posted it just because of the graphic, but the plot does sound interesting and it is an all-ages title too.

In my case it is already far above what I thought I could expect from MG.

So I goten myself prepared for both being disappointed and being surprised even further.

Yeah, I bought this completely on a whim, and because it was cheap. It will probably be pretty bad though and make me regret even spending that much.

I'm actually more interested in Fault - Milestone One: https://sekaiproject.com/portfolio/fault-milestone-one/ (also brought over by the same company, it's expected to hit Steam soon-ish I think) I've downloaded the Japanese trial, will give it a read when I have some time. The art looks really pretty at least, and I like fantasy settings.

Nothing special. MG does not have any budget to port decent titles. All they can do is license more shitty nukige almost no one cares about and hope they get enough money to release an average title once in a while. They struggle to survive on the western market and I'm quite surprised they aren't trying to use KS yet, as stupid as it may sound; with their name they could at least try to persuade better studios and raise money through KS if the talks would be successful; a lot of people does not buy their games because they are shitty, but if they would suddenly drop a good title or two on the list, I bet a lot of fans would help them raise the funding to license a better title. No risk - no gain, as they say.

Speaking of this game - that's exactly what catters to an average weeaboo fan - preety girls, mild fanservice and boobs. And story? What story, haha. People don't play games like these for the story and of course, there's no ero this time, because we don't want Uncle Sam to get upset, either. I'm really dumbfounded what are the more serious fans expecting to be perceived like by the rest of society, along with their precious vn's if all they do is license, create and play games like these.

I think the only actual future in terms of western vn fanbase lies within the hands of good studios like Sekai Project - those who reach out far, use their brain and work close with fans to help them bring good vn's onto our market. Crowdfunding might be the only good way to persuade japanese studios to open up towards us. All the other methods, as the past shows, aren't a viable way to gain their trust.

Speaking of MG, the way they act all proud of their games, including titles such as "Milles -Knight of Anal Tyranny-" makes me chuckle.

^ Ironically you talk down MG and talk up Sekai Project... but this is first and foremost a Sekai Project title w

I also wonder if KnS2 / Cartagra are not decent titles, but I suppose your opinion might differ on this point.

I do think it's amusing with their nukige stuff, but hey, marketing.

I dunno... looks pretty generic too me...

..also it just gave me some painful flashbacks to Sengoku no Rance, and by god do I never, ever wanna have to experience anything like that... thing again, ever.

same exact feeling man... that game was a horror movie to me. And i was playing it in the middle of the living room, with all my family hanging around. what can i say? not a good experience... at all.

i also hold western made VN's in high regard. I'm also in the middle of making one, but it will definitely be the polar opposite of this one, if you know what i mean  ;)

They are, but one swallow does not make a summer.

I'm not even sure why are they doing this; SP should be focusing on japanese titles, though they propably want to contribute towards the development of the growing, western industry. The art in SS seems to be of high quality and really pleases the eye, but personally I'm not that fond when western developers adapt settings which are typically bound to far-eastern culture; something, most of them has little to no actual knowledge about.

I won't cross out Sakura Spirit; not yet. I have to see the most important aspect - storywriting and dialogues. For such a low price and rather high production value this might actually counterbalance well, though if it's the art only, I'd rather buy their artbook. SS feels like an experimental ground for Winged Cloud, which so far made only two otome games. There's also very little official info, which feels either dubious, or incredibly unprofessional given the release date. That is, if it's even true.

Or perhaps someone woke up and realized that otome games sell very poorly and decided to make up for it with a pair of skimpy dressed, "well-endowed" kitsunes... not like I complain.

Wow, judging from the trailer, it will be the first all-ages nukige ever created. I would consider giving it a try if they paid me $7.46. XD

Well, jokes aside, at least the art looks nice, which is a real rarity among Western VNs. It could have worked as a simple eroge I guess (Sugar's Delight comes to mind). But, making an apparently rather fanservice~y, but still all-ages title in the genre that offers actual ero pretty much everywhere, simply makes no sense. Unless it will actually have a decently written storyline, but the trailer and synopsis make me very skeptical about that...

I can agree. The main problem is that Manga Gamer itself is it's worse enemy. Instead of focusing on genuinely interesting story based games they prefer to work on "classics" such as "Suck My Dick Or Die!", "Miles Knight Of Anal Tyranny" and "Imouto Paradise".

They are seemingly unable to listen to feedback. In the sense that nukige can screw itself and that Kickstarter could be a great plattform to fund more plot based projects. Unfortunately even when they have the chance to open up the VN market they just can't deliver since they are a living contradiction. Just look at their constant teasing of a possible Euphoria translation (Which admitedly is quite extreme, even with the surprisingly good plot) or even more Innocent Grey games that end up being ignored constantly.

That said... I did preorder Sakura Spirit, just because I'm a masochist that can't believe that game isn't a nukige. I'll post impressions as soon as it gets released since I can't imagine it being very good. The artwork is surprisingly decent even if does cater to the Ikki Tousen/Highschool Of The Dead/Queen's Blade audience way too much.

Normal plot, clearly 13-15+ at least trailer with boobs, boobs and boobs ( no way this VN is all age... ), guess I will pass on this one~~~

If that's all ages then Ikki Tousen and Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 are appropiate for everyone. It seems more than heavy on the fan service.

The thing that actually made me dumbfounded with regards to SP, is that I thought they were only interested to bring the high quality, story-driven games; at least, that was the impression I had about them. That impression kind of shattered right now. Not sure, perhaps my expectations were too high, considering I know some of the people that make up Sekai Project.

Pabloc is right - this game will definately become the first "all-ages" western nukige, as awkward may it sound.

More like, the game just screams "Look how much horny stuff we've been able to squeeze into an all-ages title!". They just took a trip to check out how far they can go without getting the "18+" tag, unless someone perhaps mixed 16+ or 17+ with "all-ages", as in "there's no ero content, therefore it's for everyone"; hand wave or a dozen.

Sekai Project, please.

That's relatively common. Some people think all ages = everyone can play it. That's not entirely true since that term is used for VN's that have no explicit hardcore content. That doesn't mean it's free of violence, strong themes or non-stop fan service.

This game looks like a Compile Heart/Idea Factory kusoge that somehow got lost and it's not being made in Japan. I have low expectation but we'll see just how good this game is in 2 weeks.

Those are actual names of games (TUT)? Oh man (-U-)...........

Sadly, these games are the reason why when gamers see VNs, they immediately go oh it's that porn garbage again get off Steam etc.

I think that you people are too fast to label it as "All-ages nukige", I think that there is a possibility that a game itself doesn't have that much fan service and that the little fan service that it does have is just all gathered in a trailer to increase sales. At least a Winged Cloud doesn't seem like a company that would make a title like that and they are in charge of development as far as I got it.

And that's just the tip from the iceberg. They recently announced some nukiges that are... you know, just check their blog (NSFW across the board): http://blog.mangagamer.org/2014/06/08/announcements-from-a-kon/
