Rooh
TL;DR: What we need: A hacker. Who this project is best suited for: New hackers looking to get into a translation group. Best description of what you're getting into: A fairly newly semi-new opened project, with a devoted translator, that I hope I can build a dedicated translation team with, going forward. Experience level needed: I don't care what your experience level is, I care that you can find a way to get tools made and that you're an overall cool person. Game: Tiny Dungeon Black and White Engine: Rosebleu's .nekopack Time devotion: Should be a fairly easy and laid-back workload. Then again, I've never hacked VNs before. Language requirements: Fluent in English. Times active: Prefer a night owl (Central time US (GMT -5/6)). Team roster: 1 translator, 2 editors/QC. Communication method: Steam, skype, and/or texting. Hi there, everyone! My little group has started translating a VN. Unfortunately, no one has experience with pulling usable materials out of a data file. I've managed to find an unpacker tool that works for the company whose VN I am translating, so that I could begin translation, but it kind of sucks. Several pages/files into it, I realized that going through 200+ files to find the next line of text was frustrating, stupid, and overall, a giant waste of time. I also have no way to repack it back into a .dat in order to see my progress, and the jerk who built it has so far refused to answer my questions on it. I was at work thinking about the project, and decided that, while I was at it, I should build a translation team, because I know that once I finish the first game, I will want to continue with the series. Why? Because a. The translation provides my schooling with much needed real-world exposure to the language, b. Because cat-eared dragon girls, c. Because I love relaxing with a VN, and want to give back to the community, and because d. I'm a language person. I am fascinated by languages and things like regional dialects, sayings, language structure, onomatopoeias, etc. What are the two fundamental things needed to get a VN into English? A translation (via a translator), and a way to get that translation overridden on top of the original text (via a hacker). I have one of the two, which means I need the assistance of a lovely hacker friend. Main duties include: Building tools to unpack files into usable materials (as in, not a random assortment of 250 script files sorted randomly), building a repacker, building a patcher and the patch/es, building any other tools that we may need, troubleshooting when in quality control, helping with file sharing, providing me with entertainment and company while I translate. I am usually active translating from the moment I'm awake, fed, and functional (assuming I don't have work or college that day, then it's as soon as I get home), until the wee hours of the morning, and would prefer someone who is also a night owl. I and the two other current members (my editors/proofreaders/QC) use a combination of steam chat, skype chat, and texting (texting is definitely not required) to communicate, use google docs to share scripts, and use dropbox as our source of file sharing. I do intend to build a team, as I've said, and I would eventually like to add more members once we have a solid preview to show that we have progress, and I would love for you to stay on with us after the project and grow with us into future VN projects and perhaps other media, with a fancy website and stuff (wouldn't that be cool?!) However, I think that jumping the gun is bad luck, and want to focus on the small steps, starting with getting a dedicated hacker, then getting a preview done and to the public. Feel free to reply, PM me, whatever, with questions or comments. I wanted to add that I am still looking for a hacker, still working on the project. I'm including my email to contact me at because the site isn't sending me alerts for some reason: [email protected] ^ My email edit: Added platform, fixed grammar, simplified post, added new relevant information. Received several replies and am going through them. Edited August 1, 2014 by Rooh
