''Hoshizora no Memoria'' is it worth reading

AAA-8

Recommended Posts

Although I'm rather terrible at rating and describing my feelings toward a game, I shall attempt to do so on this particular circumstance.

I believe the game is no masterpiece. It's a jolly good game, yes, but nowhere near my personal top.

If you like stars, and legends regarding these, you'll enjoy quite a bit of this game.

Alike many other games of this type, it has a supernatural element.

It'll do you well if you like the heroine's personalities, there are 7 routes, 1 for each heroine: Asuho, Isuzu, Komomo, Kosame, Chinami, Yume and Mare.

I personally like the protagonist. Unlike others, there's not much special about him, he's a really caring person that likes to tease his sister. He reacts to what comes his way in a manner you'd expect, that's why I believe him to be 'normal'.

I congratulate you if you manage to decipher my mess of a thought train. I'm no specialist in visual novels, and I'm sure other people may be better at expressing their thoughts than me.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Hoshizora no Memoria is a really long and beautiful story with loveable characters. Even if you don't like all of them I'm sure there's at least one you'll fall in love with and that's the beauty of Hoshimemo. And of course it has Mare which is enough of a reason to read it. Seriously though it's great and worth every second of your time.

I'm really not sure. It's worth reading if you like cute girls and romance, but I wouldn't eagerly recommend it. Out of all the routes, just very few were interesting for me; perhaps the worst part was that there was a character route easily better than the actual true route at the end. The story itself is sweet, but get ready for some ridiculous deus ex machinas just for the sake of a good ending, no matter how little sense it might make. At least the characters are likeable for the most part, and the art and OST are both very nice. The story itself isn't that great, though.

Long answer: do you like love stories, drama, and a supernatural setting? Then yes. It's pretty big filesize wise, which might be a thing.

If you think you'd like mystery and being trapped in a dangerous situation more, I recommend Ever17. If you want more action / mindgames, try G-senjou no Maou. If you want even more, somewhat over-the-top, supernatural action, go for Fate/Stay Night.

Short answer: No

Longer answer: It's a fairly upbeat and fun game and so moe it it practically kills. It has a lot of both emotional and very entertaining moments, but I for one don't understand why anyone would want to read it over any of Key's VNs, as to me both Little Busters and Clannad seem superior in every way. (Except possibly in it's amount of cuteness and adult content).

If you have something else to read then no, you should read Hoshizora no Memoria only if you have nothing else to read, or read it if you're interessed, but don't expect much, it's fairly long and if you don't like one of the heroines you'll probably never like her because there's not much character development.

I'm surprised that Steve was late answering this. If you want my opinion, Hoshimemo is definitely worth it, although you might hate some heroines ( I guarantee it, unless you're a very siscon type ) but you'll like it later, just be patient.

What!!!!!! you mean there is incest in it

Depends what you like in VNs.  It's a slice-of-life romance story, with a bit of mildly ludicrous supernatural element in it, but I think it's very well done.  I personally hated Isuzu, one of the heroines, but I loved all of the others, especially Asuho, Komomo, and Kosame.  It's impossible to get a bad end, as they don't exist, so if you're into those, I'd look elsewhere.  There are parts of it that are quite funny, too; they reuse a lot of gags, but they don't get old (at least they didn't for me).  It also addresses several deep issues, mostly dealing with emotional issues/tramua, which was mildly surprising coming from a VN that isn't Grisaia.  I'd give it an 8/10.  Great, but not perfect.  Still worth downloading, though.  I usually just download VNs while I'm playing through another one, since it doesn't require internet connection to work.

Yep, one of the routes is Chinami's, who is the main character's sister.  She is quite annoying at first (really, she's the most fucking annoying character in the entire game),  but she grows on you.  After she stops being a 2D character personality-wise she's quite likable.

You are quite right, absolutely my fault. I had though the initial summary mentioned that particular detail.

No problem.  I actually accidentally spoiled the end of A Game of Thrones (the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire, not the show!) for a friend of mine, so you're not alone.  Just thought I should point it out in case someone who hadn't read HoshiMemo saw it.
