no actually there's only me. there's no real team or anything.

there are some ppl who help me out here and there especially the coder (Vax), but for the most part it's just me (Vax is being gentlemanly)

I upload all the torrents and test the games to make sure theyre running and i look for helpers everywhere

There's a bunch of stuff going on right now, mainly waiting on the FAQ pages to be made so i can include those and then I'll ask Vax to launch the site.

You can help me populate the database? Or you can help me write news for the frontpage or help create the rest of the banners

if you know PHP i can get some help there too~ Also I want to get someone to test as many of the games as possible on their computer. So if you've got good bandwidth and HDD, try downloading a bunch of the games and tell me which ones dont work.

Also if you know video editing i need to make a 'What is a visual novel' clip so i can include it on the FAQ page. anywaY tell me what you like to do

Here's the to-dos I'm getting from your post:

Let me itemize my skills for each one, and you can send me to work immediately on one or two.

1. FAQ - When you say that they need to be "made," do you mean written? What do you need done here? I'm a pretty good regular and technical writer.
   
2. Database - What goes into populating the database? Copying games and links from VNDB?
   
3. Frontpage News - Writing news... I'm decent at writing, and I can scour VN blogs for content, but did you have something else in mind?
   
4. Banners - I've got photoshop and I'm pretty good at it. What do you need done? Do you have images/desired sizes that need to be put together?
   
5. Testing the Games - I'd love to do this!!! I'll get started ASAP. (I've got super-fast internet and a new 1TB hard drive : ))
   
6. Video Clip - Hm... Video editing... Do you have the clips, or do you want us/me to record playing parts of games and then put them together with epic music and epic narration? I've done lots of video editing... but I'm not fantastic yet. Photoshop is a stronger skill at this point, tho I do have ~300 hours editing experience. (Sorry! I'm a medicine dude, and haven't had any time to take classes or practice fun stuff like video editing : ))
   

I'll start ASAP with the testing games thing, but if you want to give me one or two other projects I'll start right away.

Yea the Database is exactly that, it's just copying and pasting info from sites like vndb and entering the new pages. 90% of this has been done already, over half of the existing translation groups i haven't made Banners for them yet. Although that's not a huge priority atm

Atm the thing I need help with the most is probably the video

See how I've got Nagisa from Clannad, that's a screenshot of a clip I took randomly from youtube.

Basically the youtube clip that's in the middle of that page is a tutorial of What is a Visual Novel, mostly aimed at the anime-viewing crowd.

so the way I would do it is cut up short segments of clips from other ppl's videos, from favourite games (w/ anime adaptations) like Clannad, Fate/Stay night, steins;gate, little busters, Kanon, Amagami, Da Capo III (anime in Jan), Rewrite (no anime. yet.), haganai, oreimo, kokoro connect,

(make sure to use clips with memorable music. ) then ill just play them in order one-by-one with a transition between each clip. and there's your tutorial to the world of visual novels!

you can even enter the name of the game for each one as they play.

the more well-known the game/anime is, the better, that way it's easier for ppl to feel an attachment towards it. That's why I would choose games with anime adaptations (or anime with game adaptations), bcuz they have the anime exposure.

PS: I've downloaded all the VNs on the site as of last night and am currently checking them on Win 7. I don't have a mac or linux, but I can at least verify they work for windows.

PPS: Also, the torrents downloaded with crazy speed and only one or two seeds! How did you set them up to download so fast?

I dunno lol. I found a seedbox at pulsedmedia for $15 a month and ppl on forums said it was good so I hired it

these are all the VNs with anime adaptations sorted by popularity they might be good to put in the clip but it doesn't necessarily have to be VNs with anime, u can pick any game that looks good. I often find people doing playthroughs of the games and they upload their playthroughs so u could easily grab a clip from them no need to record it yourself (unless u want to). dont pick Tsukihime or Umineko, higurashi cause the art is so bad.

I'll give my input here too, if anyone doesn't mind~

As it is an intruduction video, it needs to teach newcomers and draw them in.

When you want more people to play VN's you need to think about what they can get. If they are looking at VN's they are probobly already interested, you need to capture them and not scare them off.

Main points of what the video should do.

- Mainly the video is to show how VN's are played.

- Clear some confusion, people have with dating sims, its just porn etc. (compare them to old games maybe)

- Show some Anime made from VN's popular ones. (Steins;gate is a must imo)

- To end it off, show some Great galges and eroges. (Note the differences, no ero or ero.)

Some stuff you could add.

-Say that its not so different from Anime, you read "subs" for hours too lol. Just less animation and its longer.

-Galges and eroges, what's the differences?

-Show some links to youtube, VN's

Whew! Finally done!

I just finished testing all the VNs on the site using 3 different Windows 7 setups. I'm here to post my results:

The Good News: All of the Visual Novels Aaeru has uploaded work very well on Windows 7. Thank you, Aaeru,for providing an AMAZING source for these visual novels!

The Other Good News: The torrent speed is still VERY fast. I'm seeding, the service Aaeru has chosen is seeding, and for each file I'm reading download speeds of >1MBPS. (WOW)

Still More Good News: My aim with this verification was to build a quick-reference .pdf with extra info to reference (like play time, user notes for the computer-challenged,etc.) I hope this will be helpful to the community!

The Last Good News: With my initial run complete, I'm planning on keeping this updated as the site grows. If anyone has additions/suggestions or problems with the document, I'll be around to make changes dynamically!

PS: A note about the play times --- I averaged the VNDB playtimes with those around the net. Not surprisingly, the VNDB estimates are pretty accurate. I did change a few, though.

I haven't try'd out any games from fuwanovel yet (Currently reading sharnoth). But by meaning no Install on your list, litterarly means that just unpack it and its cracked and with patch? -Just like mangagamer games?

That is indeed awesome, combinded with the awesome downloading speed I'll use fuwanovel as my main DL site. Don't see any reason not to Hehe this is really awesome.

Being so easily played, it will really help the newcomers. It is suprising how many who find learning about tech stuff hard or simply too frustrating.

Also not needing to install is very practical on certain computers. Took me a couple of VN's to understand how it is done mainly. (Sympohonic Rain argh!)

I truly belive this is a great way to get more newcomers into vn's.

I would note that if it works on Windows 7 it's highly likely it will work on Vista too.

I have not doubt the PDF list will be handy for people, Tay!

I know. They look pretty awesome. This is my first exposure to copyright law/criticism (not a lot of that in the things I study @ university). Very interesting.

WORK UPDATE:

Spreadsheet : All the games on that list have been updated on the spreadsheet! I decided to keep the JAST/Mangagamer ones on the sheet (but struck-out and greyed) so that updating the list next time will be faster and easier (don't have to check which projects are done by them, etc.).

Database : I'm planning on starting a few of those, but a priority list would be VERY helpful (so I can manage my photoshop time more efficiently).

NOTE: I'm going to move this discussion (about upcoming games/database) to my volunteer thread, that way people can keep posting on this thread if they'd like about visual novels.
