I want to learn visual novel programing and editing and how everything works and stuff. I dont wanna make a visual novel, I'm more interested to help with translation work in the future. I got like 2 years of free time and I'm at the state where I'm confused about what I wanna do in life, so might as well pick up and learn something. I dont know where to start, I'm curious about kirikiri engine(and unity and other japanese engines), since it is discussed a lot, so I just wanna learn. Anyone got suggestions on where a beginner like me can start?

This is what I found with a quick google search. It seems interesting and gives you some insight into what and where to look for.

I also recommend taking a look at all the tools available:

Just play with already hacked games and try to insert your own sprites and text.
