I'm having trouble deciding if I should put off reading Misaki's route until the Perfect Edition patch is released. I would be fine with reading the route as it is now if I know that I can reach the new content from the main menu or if it's automatically tagged as unread so I can skip to it, but I haven't been able to find any information about that so I'm not sure what to do.
I've reached out to NekoNyan for confirmation but have yet to receive an answer.

So, yesterday (or actually very early today ;) ) I finished Aokana with Asuka's route.

It's another masterpiece among charage that I encountered recently (after Mashiro Iro Symphony). Really, when I started it I didn't know what to actually expect from it, and it blew me away. All girls were cute, and all four routes were great for me, but if I had to pick the favorite one, it would be Misaki, but only by a hair's breadth :)

FC/action stuff, comedy and relationships - all complemented each other nicely. Art was stunning - both beautifully detailed backgrounds, and character design. Add to this good music and FIVE different ending songs - simply amazing.

Also, it's probably VN with most wholesome h-scenes I've ever seen so far (if you actually can say that about h-scenes :P) - I loved that. They were very satisfying emotionally, and just cute, filled with love. And they mostly kept characters' personalities intact, which is huuuge plus. Look and learn, Chuablesoft! :reeee: (except they're already out of business, so they won't :P)

9/10, totally recommended, and I'm really glad it got official international release.

(Aokana and YMK spoilers below)

Spoiler

For a moment I hoped, that by the end of the Asuka's route, they would recognize themselves from the past, just like they did in Misaki's route, but in the end she decided to keep the gift from Masaya (whom she mistook for a girl back then, just like Misaki did) a secret, so only the player knows the truth. However, route still ends good, so no problem ;)

Also, Masked Skywalker being that shy Minamo-chan was interesting twist ;) A bit like Nekoko from YMK.

If that helps - I first finished Mashiro's route in All-Ages version. When I installed +18 patch then, H-scenes were marked as unread, so I could skip directly to them.

(and they were so good, that I decided to continue with +18 version for the rest of the game)

Blast. All these rave reviews and now this. I can see why this VN was success. I guess I really will have to get it.

They cover it more with Masya and Asuka's past in the anime adaptation which is a fantastic adaptation, I'm planning on doing a rewatch of the anime soon after completing the visual novel.

I went in this order: Mashiro > Rika > Misaki > Asuka (I already said this before).

So was Farther Than the Blue Sky Chuablesoft's last title or something?  The H-scenes are great in it, the visual novel is really good.

No, it wasn't their last, but still they went out of business some time ago. Also, while indeed it was IMO better than, say, SukiSuki, still Aokana is waaaay better than any of those (not just considering h-content, but overally). The way i see it, while VN as a whole is good, h-scenes in Byakko are "just" good/not bad - they are your typical, run-of-the-mill-eroge scenes, while in Aokana they are great - of course only for those who like vanilla ;)

SukiSuki (Sankaku Ren'ai: Love Triangle Trouble! right?) is just as good (currently reading this one now, H-Scenes are fantastic), also it's called Farther Than the Blue Sky, Byakko is just the name of the rocket club they're in (though it is used as an Aliases on VNDB) and I disagree with this part: "h-scenes in Byakko are "just" good/not bad - they are your typical, run-of-the-mill-eroge scenes", I would almost say they're better in terms of quality than those in Aokana (visual novels with uncensored H-Scenes are always better than visual novels with censored H-Scenes imho), all 4 routes are great and the final chapter has it end with a really fantastic ending.

Don't get me wrong I loved Aokana (the H-Scenes being censored I didn't like) but I also really enjoyed the other mentioned visual novels just as much and don't think any less of their H-Scenes, I just give more credit to visual novels that stay away from censorship (not like we can do anything about it, in Aokana's case nothing was drawn underneath the mosaic and the Japanese version came out in 2014).

I only like vanilla in H-Scenes myself.

No, I wasn't talking about it, it isn't Chuablesoft's title even (and I haven't read it yet). I meant "If you love me then say so" - which was developed after "Farther than the blue sky", but was localized first.

It actually has part of story happening on Amanoshima Island, with members of Byakko club playing episodic roles.

In terms of visuals yes, they are good, or even above average, but I didn't like the writing in them - and I loved the writing of h-scenes in Aokana. I don't care for mosaics Mosaics don't bother me at all, so this is non-factor for me. I have a bit different expectations from sex scenes in romance VNs, than from regular porn. Aokana fulfilled those expectations/desires for me - Chuablesoft's titles didn't. I felt like scenes in "Farther than a Blue Sky" and "If you love me then say so" did fine (or actually very well) as a porn, but nothing more, while I wanted that something more.

On this we can mostly agree :) While romance wasn't strongest part of "Farther Than The Blue Sky" for me, overall story was good, and indeed true route was great. Still prefer Aokana very much (which is reflected in scores I gave them).

Exactly. It's even default folder name (and main exe file) in Mangagamer's version ;) Sometimes I prefer to use aliases, since they're shorter.

Interesting, I have SukiSuki as well but haven't finished it, only done one route (Ayame, rather enjoyed it too), makes me want to get back to it since I haven't made any progress on it in a while. Interesting part about Byakko characters, just read that some of them make an appearance.

Generally "I don't care for mosaics" would imply you hate them by the way.

Oh, is that so? Good to know. Guess I got my English mixed up a bit - I meant どうでもいい ;) As in, I'm fine either way, and they don't bother me at all.

And I don't care for mosaics, so I'm passing on this game because of them. Sigh.

But I have to ask - if mosaics make you pass on the VN, how did you manage to read untranslated ones? If it makes a difference, or if they bother you combined with translated text, just switch it to Japanese and pretend it's JP release, so they won't feel out of place ;) Passing on it because of mosaics would be great loss IMO - it's great, even without sex scenes (but even better with them, mosaiced or not).

Good question. The principle is for supporting localised releases that are uncensored only. Japan doesn't get a choice.

Ah, I see. But then - assuming they did demosaic it - they'd probably have to remove Japanese text. If given such choice, I prefer to have both JP and EN text available than demosaiced HCGs, so I guess it all comes down to different priorities/preferences ;) I could probably go as far as to say that for me mosaics just became another part of "anime" art style ;)

As for mosaic, I can say that I don't really care about that. Although in my case it's more like I don't care whether the mosaic is in there or not at all, so to me being angry about the release have mosaic is really pointless (Especially back when there's announcement that Sekai will keep G-Senjou sex scene with the mosaic, and some of the user did criticize it only to have Dovac threw a tantrum toward them).

Anyway so far the game is good and that the background is really a step up because we can see some people in there (Just like Koichoco), although my laptop is very old though so I can't enjoy the opening (Oh well). What I can suggest is that if you have the sprite's face turned into a box, you can just turned off hi spec graphic because it probably mean that it can't display it properly because of the lacking power of the graphic card. Lastly while the Unity make it heavier to play here, I think it's acceptable that Nekonyan ported it because sprite somehow think that it's a good idea to not add 'Music mode' and it would be a shame to not be able to replay the music in the game since some of those are pretty good.

PS - For now both of Asuka and Aoi voice here was the most memorable to me here, seeing that the latter did use her usual voice (At least Aoi not as coward as Shinji) and Asuka's voice resembled one of Himiko Touga's voice when she talk in a very sweet manner (I search Touga here for Fukuen Misato voice comparison).

No they wouldn't. There are many reasons they leave mosaics in, usually driven by the Japanese devs, and they have no choice. Either way, it's a practice I don't want to endorse with my money.

Oh, so they're actually worth reading for once? I've just been skipping through h-scenes lately because the dialogue is usually just pointless and repetitive, so I only read the buildup of the h-scenes in Mashiro's route and skipped through the rest when they started getting it on. Maybe I should go ahead and see what they're like in Rika's route, which I'm currently reading!

That seems like a decent indication that we'll be able to skip to the new content when it's released, so I think I'll continue with the order Mashiro->Rika->Misaki->Asuka, like I originally planned!

So it's basically the same as if you were reading all-ages edition, since it boils down to mostly just this - skipping h-scenes. ;) It even keeps those cute cuddling after-scenes. Oh, and adds some additional steam to hot-springs CG.

In case of Mashiro's route

Spoiler

All-ages edition makes a skip after the dialogue
"Mashiro: You won't get any moans from me
MC: We'll see..."
And jumps to the cuddling/pillow talk after.

Second scene, which is pretty much standalone, is skipped completely.

YMMV of course, but I checked H-scenes out of curiosity, and found them good enough to continue with them. I was just clicking faster through moans/sfx, but the dialogue put in between was nice ;)

Also, I think that you could actually convert non-steam edition to all-ages too, by renaming/moving "adult.dat" file. (But who would do that? :P )

Yeah, I honestly don't care much about h-scenes, unless they actually contain dialogue relevant to the story. I would be totally fine with going with an all ages release in most cases, but there are some cases where even non-explicit scenes have been censored so I usually pick up the adult patches to make sure I get to experience the VN as intended.
Judging by your description, it seems the h-scenes in Aokana have some value other than just as fap material, so I'll check out a few scenes and see what I think!

On another note, I just received an answer from NekoNyan regarding the Perfect Edition patch!

Quote

"Hey,

Thank you for contacting us!
The plan for the extra Misaki scenes is that they will be accessible via the main menu.
Our plan is also that the patch will be out in a couple of weeks but we haven't decided on a release date yet.

Kind regards,

Adrian K
NekoNyan"

I was kinda suprised by how the developer just randomly forgot the physical restrictions of wearing grav shoes during one scene in Rika's route.

Spoiler

M6qUuY.png

Embracing like that shouldn't be possible, since the grav fields would make them repel each other. Knowing that made it a bit hard for me to truly appreciate the cuteness of the scene.

Yeah, it threw me out for a moment too. However, there is an explanation.

Remember the time when we first meet Asuka, right at the start of the game? As they are going to fly to school, MC configures their grav shoes into "paired flight" mode, which allows them to hold hands - they don't repel each other.

That time, he mentioned it worked because they were holding on to each other from the start and that they would have repelled each other if they didn't. That wasn't the case here though, since Rika wanted Masaya to watch her while she practiced, so I think it's just a slip of the mind from the developer.

Yeah, or there are some undocumented/unmentioned features of grav shoes ;)

Actually AFAIR we don't see them taking off - so maybe they took off together holding hands in paired mode, then separated for Rika's practice, but still not repelling each other?

The way I interpret it is that they need to keep holding hands from the start for it to work because they're counted as one entity while doing that, but the specifics haven't really been mentioned so I guess anything's possible.
My first thought was that the repelling might be caused from the combination of the boots and the suit, but they need that function for casual flight as well for safety reasons (and Masaya+Asuka weren't wearing suits during that scene we mentioned) so that can't be it either.

Yea, in Rika's route they end up throwing that particular issue out the window. It's kind of funny since in the common route Misaki teased Asuka for seeming disappointed when she realised that doing something like that is impossible. They would have to land, turn off the grav-shoes link hands, one of the turn theirs on and fly up again.
