If My Heart Had Wings - Flight Diary Fandisc Steam Release

I don’t have the MoeNovel version, but let’s see:

#1: Everyone (Epilouge)

#2: Amane, Isuka, and Tatsuya (Prolouge)

#3: Hotaru

#4: Kanako

#5: Yoru twins

#6: Ageha and Hotaru

#7: Kotori

Based on my comparison, it looks like route #6 got the cut. Sorry Ageha.

So, I extracted the files. If someone interested, you can dig in them.

Overall there are 40 CG arts in Moenovel edition.

I'm looking at the VNDB page for the Japanese version then back at the Steam page, and it looks like they've cut out an entire route?

This screenshot shows 7 stories while the English only has 6. Anyone know what's missing?

If I am not mistaken, they cut off Ageha's after (I remember it vaguely, but the main plot of that after story were the H-scenes)

What confuses me is that they have all-ages CGs from Cruise Sign, yet they didn't TL Akari's route. (??)

(The replacement CGs for Kanako and Hotaru are not in the original, and are only found in the PS3/ PSvita versions of Cruise Sign.)

Then again, nothing Moenovel ever does makes sense.

From what I can tell from glancing at this, you're lacking an extra side-story for the twins, and one for the Himegi sisters. (+ Some altered text, most likely, as well as a large amount of H-scenes. Like, a lot.) Overall this is a bad version of Cruise Sign, that doesn't even add the new route.

They did leave the twins' after route intact after all, based on those CGs. (Unless the CGs were just left in the files, and it isn't actually in the game.) In their original Steam page overview, the route was cut out from the list, so I thought they would skip it. (It does feature the CG you'll see in the overview above, with the girls in bikinis kissing the protag in the bath. Seeing as they are younger than the protag, I figured Steam would nuke it, but I guess not? If it is in the game, that's good at least. Means no after routes were cut, only bonus routes like the Himegi sister team-up and such.)

I don't really know much about the technical side of things, but I think adding the entire route would force them to rework the engine from the PS3/Vita version, which would probably be a lot more time-consuming than just grabbing a few CGs.

Oh, certainly. It would probably take some extra time. Which really just goes to show how lazy Moenovel is about this stuff once again. "We need to do some extra work? Pfft, just drop the whole route."

Their Cross Channel release was also a strange splice of versions, if I remember correctly. (I believe they used the 18+ version as a base, then cut out the porn and altered text where needed, even though an all-ages port exists, much like with Flight Diary.)

Some people thought maybe it could be a rights issue with Cruise Sign, but that does not seem to be the case, seeing as they do indeed have assets from that version. So, this either comes down to incompetence or laziness. Or both. Most likely both.

I honestly don't expect anything more from MoeNovel. I recently started learning Japanese, and being able to boycott localizations by MoeNovel, SakuraGame and other spawns of Satan is one of the main things motivating me.

On another note, to someone who knows:
Just out of curiousity, how is Cruise Sign handled as an all ages release when compared to Moenovel's Flight Diary release? Is the Ageha/Hotaru route cut entirely there as well? Is there anything else altered besides the h scenes?

Check out this @Dergonu's review:

If I understood correctly, all routes are present, h-scenes are cut, and there are some replacements for them. After reading this post I decided to buy Cruise Sign :)

(even though I don't have PS3. Praise the emulators \_o_/ )

In other words, it seems like an all ages release done right. I don't care about removal of h scenes, as long as they are not a vital part of the plot, but MoeNovel's approach, to alter non-explicit content, is pretty detestable.

I'm looking forward to reading Cruise Sign whenever my Japanese is at a high enough level to do so.

Late reply, but what leads you to believe the Kazato sisters route was cut? From what I remember, the below description was always there on the Steam page. (Unless it got removed and added back in sometime over the last few weeks)

Quote

The Kazato Sisters: A Day in the Life
This story takes place after you begin dating the Kazato sisters in the main story.

On a separate note, I haven't seen a lot of discussion about the translation quality of Flight Diary, does anybody know if MoeNovel did a decent job this time?

I'm also curious to know how different MN's Flight Diary is from Cruise Sign's Flight Diary, but I know that's a much harder question to answer. If what we have is just a translated version of the all-ages version put out by the original developer (basically Cruise Sign), I can live with that. I just don't trust in MoeNovel's ability to rewrite story.

It's a shame that there's no demo or *cough* unofficial demo that I could use to see if this release is worth my money. Though I suppose there is the Steam refund process.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and it's cool to see we're finally getting Akari's route. I hope we get to see Ma-bou cry.

It was lacking from their original description on Steam. It listed all the routes except for Akari, and the twin after-route. (And the H routes, ofc) It made sense for it to be gone, too, because they are the youngest among the girls, and their route has a scene of them half naked in the bath, kissing. Figured that was the reason.

I guess they just forgot to put the route in their route overview.

I just browsed FD thread on reddit. Some guy, who has completed Steam version of FD says, that this release is actually decent, without most of the issues that the main game had.

I have nearly 20 hours in MoeNovel's FD release. Here's what I think.

Translation quality is much improved from IMHHW's Steam release. It's not a direct translation - some specifics have been changed, such as the way characters address each other with honorifics, and some Japanese-specific content has been changed to make it more understandable to a western audience.

However, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading it. There's been very few mistakes, and no massive continuity issues like in IMHHW on Steam.

There's no H scenes, obviously. I'd still recommend it though.

Edit: Just completed it. The epilogue story is amazing - if you're a fan of Konosora, you must read it.

Maybe RNG Gods smiled upon us again ;) However I'm still going to read Cruise Sign first, as I've already bought it :P But if what's written above is true, then, well... nice :D I may actually buy it one day to compare with CS.

I guess it's good for Pulltop in that they decided to release Akari's route as add on, even though it's still without the sex scenes for the obvious reason.

Akari's route never had any sex scenes to begin with, as it was originally made for all-ages console version. So I suppose one doesn't need to worry about censorship too much in her case :D

I see. Then perhaps I should praise them for adding Akari's route here, even though their decision is a belated one. As for the censorship, I think we still need to worry though seeing that it's Steam. But knowing that they port it to PSV which is one of Sony's console, I guess it shouldn't be a problem here (Well hopefully).
