Euphoria

So I've been playing Euphoria for about 4 or 5 hours now since the curiosity finally got to me and I had to see what it was like, and frankly, despite the fact that it has sort of extreme content in it (nothing that extreme to me but I guess generally speaking it kind of is) it's kind of fascinating. The H-scenes are sort of imaginative in some areas (like the tongue thing and I thought the tickling one was funny), but I find the characters pretty interesting and the voice acting is amazing.  Nemu is pretty interesting and her voice actress does an amazing job. I like the mystery behind it all and it's not as basic as I thought it would be, so I'm pretty happy to have decided to play it, honestly. What are your thoughts on it, if any?

It ultimately falls apart, in my opinion.  Characters behaving in irrational ways because otherwise the story doesn't work.  The latter half seems to be at war with the themes the first half wants to talk about.  But it is a very interesting read until that happens.  (I find the h-scenes to be utterly revolting, but I'm not into that kind of thing. At all.)

Hmm interesting. And yeah I get that the H-scenes will gross a lot of people out but I'm mostly just immune to it lol

Personally I found it to be awesome. In my opinion the story is great and it does a really good job at building it up through the different routes. While the H-scenes are somewhat gross there are only a few times it goes really far, like with the devil route (which is an optional route that isn't really important to the story and that is kind of hard to get by accident). Anyways I would just look forward to the twists and turns in the story as you try to piece it together. Also this is a VN that I really recommend unlocking all or at least almost all CGs, if not you might miss the true ending.

I'm a bit on the line with this one - I think the death game parts are mostly really good, thanks to the dynamic between the characters and Nemu is a great central character for a few reasons. I didn't enjoy most of the h-scenes, but in a way, I appreciate the variety and creativity involved.

I find the later parts of the story a bit of an indefensible mess. Not that they're completely not fun to read through, but they're IMHO intensely dumb and over-the-top. From this point of view, I probably have the more fond memories of those shorter routes, that left most of the questions unanswered - I don't mind unsolved mystery, especially if the answers authors have in mind are this broken. :P

I'll follow a walkthrough if I can't figure out how to get the true ending if it isn't obvious lol

Hmm, I wonder if I'll think the same..

For me, euphoria was ultimately a let-down. Yes, I still gave it 8/10, but if I were to compare it to my most favorite dark visual novel (Bible Black), it's definitely below 8/10, at least in the story department. For what it is, it has some amazing production values, and the ideas presented within it were all very interesting to me. However, at the end, euphoria felt like it was rushed in all second halfs of all heroines' routes, and I couldn't really take the plot seriously anymore. Half of the routes felt like a joke, and the other half unfinished/rushed. At the very end, I found euphoria to be a very good nukige, but sadly, a let-down in terms of plot and development of characters. As a huge fan of dark visual novels, I enjoyed euphoria a lot, despite its flaws. The biggest disappointment to me was the final conclusion. The idea was there. I loved what they tried to pull off. But sadly... no, there's just no delivery. Amazing idea, but ultimately a botched attempt at delivering it. They could have done it so so much better, yet they failed. Euphoria could have been more than just a nukige, but sadly, for me it only ended up being a good nukige with an attempt at having a plot. I am hoping Maggot Baits will be better... and that new VN coming out which gives me great vibes (Dead Days).

I'm just wondering how the hell you'd recommend a VN like this to someone lol

Focus on the shock value and abstract plot when recommending it. Obviously, for fans of guro/torture porn this is prime fapping material, but for everyone else it's still an intriguing experience just because of how transgressive and out there it is. I treated it as a dark horror VN with porn rather than the other way around (that magical "ctrl" button helps with that too) and I didn't regret the two days I've spent reading it, even though I see it as 7/10 at best. :>

I added Bible Black to my list, so thanks for mentioning it since I love dark media as well. I'm still not far enough to really form an opinion on Euphoria but it should be interesting to see what I think since a few people have similar thoughts to you.

i was very hesitant to read this one but its made by one of my favorite eroge companies since they made "eroge! sex and games make sexy games!" ...and please rape me.

but i enjoyed it overall. wasnt what i was expecting and kept me interested even if im not into the extreme h scenes.

I gotta say that I didn't think it affected me much but then I took a break from it and went back to Little Busters and it was like sweet fucking relief to go back to something light hearted lol so yeah I guess it has affected me a little

I have to admit, I still have euphoria flashbacks from time to time, sometimes in completely unrelated situations. And, less randomly, whenever sex or fetishes are brought up in conversations. So I can't say it didn't leave an impression on me.

Spoiler

I also think the human toilet and human laundromat scenes might stay with me forever.

Bible Black is a bit old, and it's more of a classic than anything else. The plot in it isn't anything amazing either, but at least I find it more believable than euphoria's plot. Aesthetically speaking, the game isn't as pretty as euphoria, but for a VN originally developed and released in 2000, I'd say it looks good. Sei Shoujo's art was one of the better ones in those times, so I'd say the VN doesn't look too bad for today's standards. Plotwise, you may find it a bit silly with all the stuff going on, but damn, that VN has one of the best choice systems I have ever seen in a visual novel. There are actual consequences (bad endings) depending on how you play it. That's what I loved the most about that VN. I kid you not when I say that Bible Black is tons of fun just for the choices. Don't use a walkthrough for it if you decide to play it. Yeah, you may get stuck maybe (there's like 20 or so different endings in it and a good number of choices to make), but it's not too difficult to figure out what went wrong when you reach a bad ending. Bible Black has a great replayability value due to how the story was constructed. It just begs you to replay it time and time again (which is why I replayed the entire VN like 3 or 4 times in the span of 5 years since I have read it). I genuinely loved Sei Shoujo's art and writing in it. Unlike euphoria, which I look at only as a nukige, Bible Black is for me both a nukige and a plotge. It doesn't sacrifice either of these two aspects for another. Looking at it now, it's not really an amazing title, but it just clicked with me with the way the story was delivered and presented. I feel like content-wise, Bible Black offered more to me than euphoria did.

it had a lot of potential with its psychological elements, but it ultimately fell flat. then again, i was probably just disappointed after hearing so many people hyping it up as a great story. once you get past the underground game arc, the story gets pretty generic and sappy.

euphoria is one of my all time favourite VNs. I'm not a fan of that type of VNs, but I love it and I'm proud to say that I've given it a solid 10 on VNDB.

I love the soundtrack. I love the CGs. I love the story. Last but not least - I loved Nemu since the first time I saw her.

I have been searching for something with a similar atmosphere for quite some time and now I have given up.

I am surprised how well received this VN is by most.

For me it was like this: Exhaustingly grinding through lots of (disgusting (well, most of them)) h scenes just to get to the story part which I read before should have been great. But it wasn't. The story was utter nonsense IMO. So I have to say that this is the only VN that I finished (always hoping for that story to become better) that received a really bad vote from me. What saved it from getting a 1 was the sound track which was quite good. Other than that, the time reading this felt totally wasted.
