Who doesn't play nukige or eroge?

This is purely curiosity but I've noticed so many people here playing nukige and eroge or like almost every conversation here mentioned nukige and eroge. Then again, I am still new and haven't explored fuwanovel more. So, I wonder if there are any people like me who don't play nukige or eroge? What kind of visual novel are you playing then? For me it is otomege. Ikemen is justice and the ships shall sailed! Hehehe...

NOTE: I don't mean any offence to those who played nukige or eroge. It's a matter of preference and I have no say on that.

I am pretty sure almost everyone in this forum has read at least an eroge. As for nukiges, I don't think there are actually that many who played (or at least discussed) here. I was once like you: I avoided eroges. But as I started to read more non-eroges, the number of VNs that I was able to read became significantly smaller. Almost half of the VNs I read are 18+, and that's not because I want to view 'those scenes'. Rather, it's because I would limit my reading options by avoiding them, since many visual novels are 18+ and some do not have an all-ages version (Saya no Uta for instance).

As for the types of VNs I read frequently, it's almost everything except for nukige and moege.

I generally don't read nukige (unless it picks my interest for some peculiar reason, or someone sends me one for review, which is happening more and more often with Steam openly allowing porn) and usually choose all-ages versions of VNs whenever that's a viable option. I don't have any moral problems with h-scenes, but I don't use them for "intended purposes", and more often than not find them extremely dull and narratively hollow, so I have little hesitation for skipping them altogether.

My "VNs of choice" would be fluffy yuri romance and mystery. I also like things that are spicy, even to the point of including softcore sex scenes, but without all the brain-melting hentai dialogue, absurd voyeuristic positions, extreme close-ups... All that porny stuff that is just for people to get off to, instead of doing anything for the story (or at least getting your imagination working).

EDIT: But I've also read euphoria and some extremely smutty short VNs, because curiosity is one of the driving forces of my VN-reading habits. :>

I don't read Nukige. I read most vns on Steam, unless they're not on there then yeah. There are a lot of good ones out there. I don't feel comfortable with H-scenes, so I like to buy them on Steam if the translation is good or at least decent. I'm only picky about machine or Google translations. My favorite genres are usually mystery, Psychological, drama, Otome, comedy, some moege, Utsuge, Nakige, romance, some horror, action, fantasy, charage, and Chuuni. Lol there are a lot of genres and type of vns I enjoy. I just love variety and a good story.

I don't play nukiges either ^^ Eroges, sometimes, but I usually go for an all-ages version then. Sex scenes just make me uncomfortable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll stomach them if they're important for the plot or characterization, but since that's not the case 9 times out of 10... As for what I do read, I like otome, BL, yuri, mystery, and horror <3

I don't think you can really play a vn for long and not play a eroge, you can twist and squirm all you want but you will eventually play one. There are quite a few that are all ages and have no sex scenes in it like the best vn of all time(I'm going to keep plugging GA until someone kills me) but they are a finite amount. Eventually you will run out of the quality ones, plus, some of the best vns are eroge's. I'm no fan of the sex scenes in them and I think almost all of them are badly written and that virgins are lame and boring. Nukiges I hardly ever play and every time I do play one I inevitably end up regretting my decision.

On the topic of Galaxy angel. I've held that off because galaxy angel 2 and it's sequels haven't been translated yet. Are they relevant? Does the story for the cast you get to know in the first series come to a close? I'd be pretty annoyed if i read 3 vn's and got a cliffhanger because the rest has yet to be translated.

No, Galaxy Angel 2 is a completely different story with all new characters and is only somewhat loosely connected with the first three. Eternal Lovers wraps up everything storywise.

My preferred type of VN is chuunige, which are generally low on the eros... but the fact is that almost all the best Japanese-made VNs are eroge.  All-ages versions come later, if at all (and in extremely small numbers), and generally don't sell well enough to justify their production, which is why they are so rare.  The vast majority of non-ero VNs in Japan are otomege, the faux female-oriented VNs that do little but brainwash young girls into thinking DIDS (Damsel in Distress Syndrome) is normal.  It takes a very peculiar aesthetic for a completely non-ero Japanese VN to succeed (5pb's two different Science series containing Steins;Gate and Ever17 respectively are classic examples).

A lot of eroge that came over here since 2013, with the exception of JAST's releases, ended up with all-ages versions on Steam, but it needs to be said that the amount of backlash from that still makes me wince (happily, I was playing them in Japanese, so I didn't have anything invested in the explosive arguments involved).  Indie (Doujin in Japan) games are the ones most likely to be all-ages, and these games can either be great or pure crap... and the best ones generally never get completed or end up buried in the dark corners of the web.

Fortunately for beginners in the EOP community, there is a decent selection of titles in English with all-ages or low ero versions.  However, for those of us who abandoned EO long ago, all-ages is a drop in the bucket, lol.

As a note elaborating on my initial statement, I could do without ero entirely in about 80% of all chuunige (there is always a certain percentage where the sexual intercourse is so interwoven with the story that it stops making sense when surgically excised).  However, if you stick to VNs for a while, you'll find it harder and harder to avoid eroge.

As for nukige... it needs to be mentioned that nukige make up over two-thirds of the VN produced worldwide (even if you include doujins and indie stuff and OELVNs) if you count all those made in history.  It is a very rare long-term VN player who hasn't at least experienced one nukige.

I first met VNs through animes based on VNs, such as Amagami SS (best romance VN imo btw), but then i got into Eroge, because, you know, adolescent business.

I always loved reading and all, so i saw myself really into VN, but most of Eroges for some reason has a really bad story, i know, they're not nukige, but still, idk, i simply can't enjoy reading eroges to my heart content, it's like they focus more on the sex parts than into actual story, and that pissed me off. I know, there are some Eroges with a great story and all (name me some pls i need it for learning purposes), but i still quited Eroges. Nowadays i only play VNs that gets recommended to me, most of them are not Eroge because it's really hard to find Eroge that has a good story, but if i ever find one, then i'll play it for sure.

TL;DR: Got into VNs because of VN-based anime such as Amagami, got into Eroge, quitted Eroges because of most of them has bad stories, nowadays i only play VNs that gets recommended to me.

Then, then... do you guys have any VN recommendations that is not nukige or eroge? Doesn't have to be otome ONLY.

I have played all-ages version of eroge however they are not my cup of tea. Because I don't like harem and at the very beginning, the girls would show their blatant affection (or dislike for tsundere) towards the protagonist, sometimes for no reason at all as it is their first meeting. Of course, this is just my preferences and opinion. So yeah, I'm not exactly avoiding them as you said but I don't mind limiting my reading options if it is mean I don't have to play something I don't like.

Well, if that's your preference, then that's fine.

It would be nice if you have a vndb list so that we don't recommend VNs which you have already read.

Anyways, here are some all-ages VNs which I enjoyed:

1. Ever17

2. Zero Escape series (9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, Virtue's Last Reward)

3. Rewrite

4. Ace Attorney series (but especially the third one, Trials and Tribulations)

5. Danganronpa series (Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, Killing Harmony)

6. Root Double

And eroge, manga, anime all teach young girls that acting like a vile cunt, even go as far as murder does let you off without consequences. Girls are cute and have to be protected and can't be held responsible for their actions.

Thank you so much! I have vndb but I don't update it. I don't even know why the heck I create that account. I've played Danganronpa and for non-otome, I would love to play this kind of VN more.

Don't worry! I worked with OELVN too so I like them as well!

Well, yeah, I usually don't create accounts either. But the VNDB account I find pretty useful mainly because of the wishlist, so I don't forget when I heard about interesting VNs and also have links for them ready. And maybe in the future when I will have read a lot more VNs it will help me so that I don't read the same VNs twice ^_^
