I'd love to have everything physical, but I can't afford it. Especially, since there's so many out of print and that I missed the Kickstarters for and stuff.  I've been thinking of trying to put together art and everything, burn copies, and make my own physical editions, but I'd have to learn how to use Photoshop or something. Is there any communities into that type of stuff like there are for regular games and movies? If there was something like thecoverproject, but for VNs I'd do it in an instant.

Considering the size of the VN community as well as the amount of those interested in physicals I would say there is pretty much no chance for a community based on making their own physicals to exist.

Considering that I'd always thought that JAST did slow down the translation because of the physical edition release and I'm always point out that it's one of their down, safe to assume that I wouldn't be in favor for physical edition at the first place. Besides both edition should be more or less the same anyway, so no point to get physical edition if you're already owned download edition. So my vote here will goes to the first option.

Figures. I was hoping maybe someone here already had some experience making their own, but I'll probably just order some DVD cases and try my best at it. I'll still buy official ones sometimes, but it seems like some of the physical versions people are getting through kickstarter and stuff are so bare minimum and shoddy looking that they might as well be homemade anyway.

Console or anything with proprietary shops or shit like that: Only Physical, digital if it's the only viable option

PC: Only Digital, physical if it's the only viable option (it happens with JP vns sometimes)

I was a physical collector now I'm slowly selling everything is available on PC digital platforms like gog, mangagamer, dlsite JP, DMM, or steam (I'm purchasing steam remastered copies of the PS2/PS3/360 games I have and selling the originals)

I prefer to get cheaper digital versions.

On a side note, my eroge collection isn't something I want displayed in my room, nor is something I would show to visitors; and I don't think it's worth it having all my eroge in physical just for myself to look at the covers. Nah.

I used to love getting physical versions until I realized I was running out of room.

You get colorful artwork on the front with some preview CGs on the back. However, the box is often ridiculously large for the amount of content inside. The only discs I have that's correctly sized is the two LoveKami games (Sweet Stars and Trouble Goddess).

Also, I realized that I probably won't value the games after I complete all the routes and will probably not install it on my next computer and maybe even place it in storage. It's easier to store digital games especially if you have an online account (Most services let you redownload the game as many times are you want like Steam).

Depends on which type on VN you get a physical of. Japanese physicals tend to have quite large boxes while english ones are most of the times just in normal dvd cases unless it is a limited or collectors edition.

Dont forget though. A physical copy lasts forever while a digital one survives as long as the store is running. What happens when or if mangagamer goes bankrupt for example? Well, you better take good care of your installation files. Many, many vn's break after reinstalling windows.

Don’t worry, I make physical backups of the installation files whenever I get the chance. I usually store the installation or game files on an external hard drive. The steam games though will be a challenge.

For those males here that are religiously collecting boxes of hard core 2D porn that are sitting on their shelves, what do you plan to do if and when you start a relationship, or have kids? Do you honestly think that there are (m)any women that would be happy to accept someone with that on their shelves? It's akin to leaving 3D porn on the shelf.

The problem lies in the windows registry, not the files themselves. Its a bit of a hassle, but its smart to backup entries from there if you find a vn giving you an error after moving the files.

I've kind of been wondering the same. Young people perhaps won't think that far ahead and older are perhaps content with being single. Must be embarassing having family over though, at least if you're older.

I'd like to say to not go for a woman that doesn't accept you for who you are and your interests and hobbies, but the world doesnt reward idealism such as that, and you'd likely have to be very very lucky to find a woman that accepts it after  just starting to go out. Can imagine the look on their faces when they see such a room

Hide it and later be honest when you're closer and more comfortable with each other. Not hide completely of course as that makes it super difficult and awkward taking the step to reveal your interest, and say it was super embarassing as the reason for hiding in the beginning is what i'd do if i found myself with such a collection.

Well, that became longer and likely much more off topic than intended

I don't have any porn on my shelves for partly this reason exactly. Though some answers might be, remove it when the time comes and put it in the back of a closet/throw it out like I'm sure many other people did with their porn magazines as kids before us.

Just for reference, the question is mostly rhetorical, to make the religious collectors think more about what they're doing. I've been playing VNs for 20 years now, am happily married with a wife of 23 years, and 2 teenage kids. I don't have a single physical copy of any VN on the shelf, and yes I've bought many many games.

Well, I feel like my chances of getting into relationship are close to zero (if it didn't happen during the last 34 years, why should it happen now?), but @ittaku raises very good point. Still I don't collect physical versions, but that's because of lack of space and their high prices. And yes, just in case that tiny chance materialized, too ;)

Initially I frowned upon Steam and digital distribution in general, but as I am running out of shelf space (occupied mostly by music), this actually is a blessing  :D And, contrary to games, I prefer my music in physical form (CDs, records, tapes etc)

This assumes I will leave my daki and find a real woman

So far in my 22 years on this planet I have never had a girlfriend so not sure if that is ever going to happen.

Also I have no intention of dating someone who doesn't accept my otaku hobby, if the choice is between that and being alone I am fine with being alone.

Having a relationship with another human being is almost as pointless as owning a physical copy of anything, so you might as well double down on the foolishness. :leecher:

Please tell me when you have reached the point of not needing a physical body and have uploaded your brain to the internet.

My end goal in life basically, albeit it probably won't be 'me' consciously but rather a copy of 'me'.
