What visual novel have you attempted to get into most often but continually lost interest in?

Well, today I finally dropped Grisaia because it was just so hard to me to keep reading it, and reading Umineko to take a breath from it just make it worst. The girls are cute and I was interested in them, but the genre shift of dumb slice of life comedy to some kind of deep stuff to go back at the silly stuff, and especially Amane, just killed my love for it.

Also, despite loving Steins;Gate... I already watched the anime and makes harder to read because I knew almost everything, but is easier to see any foreshadowing and stuff, and even hilarious, now I'm in chapter two and I will finish it, because I want to read the endings and start Steins;Gate 0.

And well, any moege or nukige in general just kill my motivation for the story. Romantic centric or porn isn't my thing, unless the porn is euphoria tier, with actually interesting things underneath

I can say that until now I have always finished what I have started (with DameNaKoi being the only exception but that has nothing to do with the VN itself but with me wanting to get better in Japanese until I will continue reading it). But there were 2 VNs that I struggled to finish:

Amnesia - Memories: The story just didn't make any sense to me and too many strange things happened along the way. Although the Shin route was ok. I found it pretty unsettling that the MC never talks, this makes the 'dialogues' pretty strange at times.

Tsukihime: Although so many people seem to love that VN I just couldn't get into it. It seemed horribly repetitive and the pace was soo slow. Also the soundtrack was really boring although I normally don't judge a VN by that. The only route I could get into was Arcueid's.

CLANNAD: I really love KEY's titles as I have already played Kanon, Little Busters, Planetarium and watched Angel Beats. But being spolied by friends from what happens in the after-story and watched the first season of the anime makes it very difficult for me to finish this one. By now I managed to play Kyou, Ryou, Misae, Komura, Yukine, Tomoyo, Mei, Kappei endings. I'm missing now just Nagisa's route and the After Story. But this is a battle that has been happening since 2014. I really love the humor and the characters but knowing what is going to happen and being such a long novel makes it hard for me... Someday I'll still put an end to this battle!

Grisaia: The summary got me hooked. The common route not so much. Yeah, the comedy is fun sometimes, but... I was not expecting a slice of live comedy... I know that it gets better later but the common route at the time that I played seemed so unnecessarily massive and somewhat pointless that I just got tired... Someday I'll also try playing this again while preparing myself better to not be disappointed expecting anything different from the beginning.

Eien no Aselia: Somehow I got myself stuck in a battle and cannot proceed in the game. :rubycry: I also lost the laptop that had my save on it, so unless I use the hack for making the battles easier and somehow somehow steam saved my progress on cloud, it's unlikely that I'll finish this.

Littlewitch Romanesque: I love this game and I also suck on it. So I'm always missing one or two required skills in the last year to complete an character quest. But since I really like the gameplay system, I'll probably keep trying until I finish it! (I also admit that I didn't try too hard to complete it...)

Spoiler

Emm.. You'll be moved even if you "know" what happens beforehand. Yes, it's a bit bullshittery, but so is also the negative parts. Without the bullshit ending the route and vn itself would be irredeemable. Anyway, watch/read it, tears will still fly and you'll get chills from the beautiful soundtrack.

Even though I love Arcueid as a character for what she is (and how well her entire existence is consistent with the way she acts) I recommend at least trying to go deeper.

Ciel's route can be tiresome because it looks like the exact same path as Arcueid's, but her real route starts when Roa is dealt with.

Arcueid and Ciel make the "Near side of the Moon" arc. While I enjoy it (mostly due to Arcueid's character alone) the "Far side of the Moon" arc is MUCH better.

Akiha, Hisui and Kohaku make up said arc and they stand for the best stuff there is in the visual novel, really.

Give it another chance and you are not going to regret it.

As for me, I started but lost interest in Kikokugai (The Cyberslayer) for reasons beyond me. I simply stopped and never got back into it, even though the premise is interesting. Almost 10 years later and I still remember the initial plot, which might mean something.

I also never managed to beat Evenicle's last boss. The game is amazing and I laughed hard way too many times while playing it, but after I went out of the last dungeon to grind a bit, I had a huge change in my life and never touched it again.

If you want to play it for the story, you may use 100% save file where all characters are at lv 99 and use it to play the normal mode. All battles will become pretty much instant kills. Especially if you use Orupha and Nanaru as the supporters.

I DID finish Tsukihime... but still I never got into this VN, it was simply a VN that I had to fight hard to finish...

I thought that I was the only one who was struggling with Tsukihime.

I plan to do so and I already cried a lot playing the other routes, even already knowing about them. Kotomi in particular made me bawl like a baby for straight 20 minutes in my bed. It was so beautiful...

I will definitely finish CLANNAD someday and I'm sure that I'll be touched, it's just hard to do it at once because it's such a long story with a lot of parts that I know, so I get bored and delay finishing it, hehe. :chaika:

I will! Thank you very much for the tip <3

Aw... Ok hahaha

Well, personal taste is very subjective. But I am glad you finished it.

Ciel's route in particular can be.... Challenging.
