Safe to buy from Denpasoft?

Okay, so I know this is a stupid question (I seem to ask these a lot) but, still. Is it safe buying from Denpasoft? Like, would I get in trouble for doing so? Are there any concerns or issues with doing so?

I really want to buy The Fruit of Grisaia (it's been one of my most anticipated VNs for a while now), and it seems like the 18+ version is the more recommended one: the thread yesterday (as well as several others) swung heavily towards suggesting that, and apparently the cut content does wind up making the VN funnier and advancing the plot. I read a very upvoted comment on Reddit that keeps playing in my head: "I feel bad for people who buy the steam version not knowing what they miss. The dirty jokes are one of the highlights of Grisaia.". Another VN I'd like to get is WagaHigh, and I've posted before about really enjoying the demo, the characters, the art, and the setup, as well as the engine, though with that I'm concerned as there's the Toa route.

The thing though is that I've not bought something from an adult store before (I usually buy from Steam or eBay/Amazon for physicals) and I'd of course very much rather not get into trouble for doing so. I don't mind getting the Steam versions of both, and honestly it'd be more convenient (same place as my other games, playtime tracking and chat support), but the prices are about the same.

I am over 21 and in the US though. Thanks for any help :).

It's kind of unclear who you're worried about getting into trouble with. The law? No. I'm not a lawyer, so take this with the requisite grain of salt, but still, no. You're not going to get into legal trouble for buying The Fruit of Grisaia or WagaHigh off the Denpasoft site (or anything else off the Denpasoft site, or anything off MangaGamer or JAST USA, for that matter) if you live in the US, any more than if you bought High School DxD off Amazon. Some countries have much stricter pornography laws, though.

Are you going to get into trouble with your parents? Who can say.

Edit: Actually, a better analogy. You're not going to get into trouble for buying those 18+ VNs any more than you would for buying Lolita off Amazon.

It's completely safe and you have nothing to worry about, I've bought The Labyrinth of Grisaia - Unrated Edition and The Eden of Grisaia - Unrated Edition, they're digital only and DRM-free.

I don't recommend getting any visual novels on Steam that have cut content, it's not worth it.

Denpasoft's registration system made me feel distinctly uneasy

There is nothing wrong with Denpasofts registration system, they're a business so they have to follow certain protocols when gathering user information, if you're feeling bad about registering then you really shouldn't be buying them let alone playing them.

Then you're probably not aware that all 3 major eroge publishers have had breaches of confidential information.  2/3 disclosed customer information, and 1/3 involved a hacker whose declared purpose was to dox customers.  These companies have been very hush-hush about these incidents because their business literally depends on user confidence.

It's pretty safe to purchase games from Depasoft since they're a legit digital store for Visual Novels, same goes with Mangagamer and JAST USA... Heck Depasoft has their own custom made installers for their games/VNs similar to JAST USA DRM free installers and GOG.com

For security purposes on both your privacy and banking/payment aspects, I suggest you use HitmanPro Alert Anti Malware  while making your purchases online. That software literally protects your keystrokes while you type your password and other sensitive information... Plus its scanner may permanently delete the stored cookies and browsing histories in google chrome or other search engine apps to prevent hackers from stealing your data and essential stuffs... If you don't want to buy the software, just use a 30-Day Trial Free Version while doing any kind of online purchases, believe me it'll save you from a lot of problems since the Internet is very dangerous place nowadays, nothing is absolutely safe anymore :leecher:

Using LastPass add-on is better, no need to type anything, login information is encrypted.

Client-side protection doesn't protect you from server-side breaches.  The best protection is actually not storing the information to begin with.  Also, the combination of Google Chrome Incognito and LastPass should accomplish the same level of client-side protection you describe, and they're free.

I suppose so since its free and all, however that's just a add on extension for a browser which doesn't provide any real protection against phishing and other cyber attack from Hackers or from malwares and viruses which are the main causes of security breaches from most people.

Google Chrome Incognito could be effective in a some ways since it does not save your browsing history but I wouldn't rely on that for most of the time, I rather use a VPN software if I desire full protection from the Internet...

Anyways if you don't mind me asking, what kind of Anti-Virus/Anti Malware apps/software are you using by any chance?

If we're talking about potential data breaches, then you're not safe at all. There's always a chance of it happening and history shows there's not a single company out there, capable of stopping hackers. Gotta live with it, hope for the best and be prepared for worst.

The way you 'stop' it is not letting them store info that you want kept private.  In Denpasoft's case, they ask for your name at registration.  They ask for your e-mail and physical address when you try to 'buy' something free.  They ask for this info they don't need, store it, and don't seem to allow you to change the name or e-mail address if you later change your mind.  That's poor policy, especially in the adult business where personally-identifiable info is sensitive.

By comparison, I checked my Nutaku account and I don't even see an entry for a name.  As incompetent as Nutaku is, they get it.

If it is info they don't need then just fake it because they won't check it?

I woulnd't be surprised if this is info the payment processor wants and we all know how easy getting one for adult business is.

I entered fake info because I know the risks of oversharing.  Others might not be so foresighted, and with the current system these users don't seem to have any recourse if they later decide they don't want to share their personal info.

Customer and payment databases are stored separately.  What I've been discussing is the customer database, which is typically not subject to the same security standards as the payment database.

Denpasoft uses a store platform called Shopify.  It wasn't designed with adult entertainment in mind, and Dovac clearly rushed out his implementation of it.

For security purpose, I know people buy using gift card (very paranoid people hire stranger to buy it from store) or bitcoin if it is supported. They also use VPN along with disposable email like protonmail.

Depends what you're trying to protect yourself from: casual hacks and software glitches, financial thieves, or government surveillance/investigation.  The first requires only minimal precautions.  The second is already covered by automated fraud detection, robust consumer protections, and easy deactivation of compromised cards.  The third is nearly impossible without superhuman efforts.  Personally, I think people underestimate the frequency and potential damage of the first.  Also, changing your name and address is a lot harder than deactivating your credit card.

Denpasoft is as safe as any other online business and potentially more so than some of the bigger names since they are a less likely target. Let's say someone was trying to steal user info, would they go for a small niche company like denpasoft or a big monolith like sony, nintendo, amazon, microsoft, or any of the hundreds of other larger places that potentially have shit security (and have been hacked into before) and have a much larger user base which means more data to collect? There is no such thing as safe information on the internet these days so knowing how to act and act quickly is probably the best thing you can prepare for. It's not a matter of if it will happen but a matter of when you find out it has.

Well, some of them will go for small businesses since they generally have worse security systems. Mathematically speaking, I'm not exactly sure where the probability to have your data stolen is higher: big companies are attacked more but have stronger security; little companies are attacked less, but they are easier to hack into.

Similar info in different contexts is not equally sensitive.  If you found a picture of your wife (that you'd never seen) in a string bikini on her phone, you might not think much of it.  If you found the same photo on your best male friend's phone, that slightly changes the interpretation.  Though the risk of compromise might be the same in each situation (which may or may not be so), the consequences are not.

I use Norton Security and LastPass.

Hmm......... Norton by Symantec... Well not a really comprehensive Anti-Malware app and I personally wouldn't recommend that software to my clients alongside with Avast, Avira, McAfee, ESET, and other under-performing Anti-Malware/Virus apps or software.

Norton consumes too much Memory/Processes even its just running the background... Tried using it in clearing a infected client's PC, didn't get the job done... :michiru:

As for Lastpass, yeah it does provide some partial measure of protection but utterly useless if your PC is already infected with Malwares, Viruses, or worse, Rootkit and botnet since it can literally see what God knows your doing in your browser... :pyaa:

Well if your going to use lastpass, might as well add a extra extension called Adguard. It'll protect your browser from phishing attacks and annoying Pop Ups found on various websites plus its free! Since I understand most people prefer to spend money on entertainment products than the ones that protects their data or PC for that matter so yeah:Chocola:

There's a other version of Adguard that could hide and rename your IP address without the need of using a actual VPN but I'll discuss it some other time...

Whatever your course of action is Hetzer123, wish you all the best and hoping these security issues wouldn't prevent you from enjoying playing Visual Novels! :mare:

I like your name by the way and do you like German Tanks in general since reading your name reminds me of this stuff

Anyways thank you for time reading my post, I personally use Malwarebytes on my PC for security purposes and its the BEST Anti-Malware/Virus for the Windows OS, having HitmanPro as backup only...
