Honestly I never understand why people get so engaged with having political arguments with total strangers online like you'll click on a facebook photo or youtube clip and there are these total weirdos typing out these long diatribes to someone that they've never met and someone they don't give a shit about. You are not going to change their opinion.  Even if it is stupid, ugly, and hateful. Especially that.

Speak for yourself. I use to lean conservative until someone on the internet convinced me otherwise.

I've seen plenty of people change their opinion due to Internet discussions. It's certainly waaaaay more rare than just sticking to what you believe because "my balls say so", but it does happen. Ofc, it's conditioned on people being both able and ready to challenge their ideas and facing the possibility of being wrong, which helps make it so odd to see in real life.

Kinda like politics, with how candidates spend more time trying to ingrate themselves to the people through shallow gestures and words rather than state how their plans will benefit them.

Ebenezer Scrooge: [on Tiny Tim] Tell me, Spirit... Will he live?

Ghost of Christmas Present: I see an empty place at this table. I see a crutch without an owner, carefully preserved. If these shadows remain unaltered by the future, the child will die.

Ebenezer Scrooge: No. Say he'll be spared.

Ghost of Christmas Present: If these shadows remain unaltered by the future, none other of my species will find him here. But if he is to die, then let him die...! "AND DECREASE THE SURPLUS POPULATION!"

Ebenezer Scrooge: You use my own words against me?

Ghost of Christmas Present: Yes! So perhaps, in the future, you will hold your tongue until you have discovered where the surplus population is, and WHO it is. It may well be that, in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than MILLIONS like this poor man's child.

Was reminded of this quote again it's pretty much one of my most favorite quotes

"Every once in a while, I remember something I did when I was a child. Or something that was done to me, by my father, or my brother, or a cousin. Some injury. Some humiliation. And it seems like... it happened to another person, a century or two ago. I'm not really sure if what I remember really took place at all. You can't build your life, relying on the perception of a little boy, or the echos of some memory. Nah. You got to let all that shit go. You gotta start, fresh. Every single day. You have got to start again."

God damn high schoolers yo' acting like their shit don't stink and complaining about how much they hate school when they are just a freshman. It is weird working in my most hated fictional setting.

How did you end up there then? :o

I was pressed into service, they've kidnapped my parents, I'm on the lam for a crime I definitely committed. Plus, it is better than standing all day in front of a register in uncomfortable shoes and having listen to the same music day in day out.

Mattel Germany decided to sell Scrabble as "BuchstabenYOLO" (meaning "letter YOLO") from now on, advertising it with a teribble commercial (it's in German of course but you get the gist of it without understanding a word) starring the rapper MC Fitti whose trademark is using old teen slang and lots of made up anglicisms ironically which for some reason is very popular with prepubescent teens. The caption above the video translates to "Turn up the swag!" by the way.

The whole thing feels like one of those satirical fake commercials in comedies but for some reason the decision makers at Mattel Germany thought this was a good idea.

So I witnessed a car accident while driving on the road. Fortunately it seems that all the people involved were uninjured or suffered very minor injuries, and they got out of their cars on their own. Anyway, you know how this works, it's when you experience something that you start thinking about it; and so, I was looking at accident statistics, fatalities, causes...

Leaving aside the obvious, which is people who drive drunk or high, the most likely cause are distractions, either circumstancial (looking at your phone, having a heated conversation...) or habitual (not checking your mirrors, not using your blinkers...). Then, according to most sources I looked into, there is speeding. However, I have a slight problem as to how that is usually phrased. "Speed kills", they say, but I'm not so convinced. Yes, obviously it's just physics that the greater the speed, the more momentum the vehicle will have, therefore the greater the braking distance, the greater the grip your tires will require to turn into a corner, bla bla... but, honestly, I don't think people will usually drive at speeds so high that this is a factor, at least most of the times, perhaps with the exception of those times when the weather is bad, but no so bad that they feel threatened. You know, when the road is slightly wet and it still highly reduces the friction coeficient, but people are not aware of this.

Anyway, in most scenarios, I believe that people will generally drive at speeds that they feel comfortable with. At those speeds, they very rarely will lose control of the car; and yet, "speeding" kills. Why? Well, maybe (just my theory, feel free you guys to provide evidence that negates this) because it's not the act of going over the speed limit, but rather, the difference between your speed and the traffic flow. The traffic flow will mostly go at the speed limit, therefore if you are to surpass it, you'll create a difference in speed and increase the risk of having an accident. Oh great, so let's just increase the speed limit and the number of accidents should go down, right? Well, yes to some degree, but not quite. The thing is, as I said, the speed people drive will be the one people feel confident with in the first place, and the one enforced by the signals second. So while raising the speed limit might cause that more drivers match the speed of those other drivers who would go over the limit on a regular basis, and that should apparently diminish the std deviation of speed in the traffic flow somewhat, it doesn't account for those other people who go regularly BELOW the limit. In fact, it'd make the difference in speeds between these people and the traffic flow bigger, negating the equalization we achieved with the first measure.

And that's the thing, going far below the speed limit is as dangerous as speeding, but much, much less regulated (yes, there is a lower limit at least in my country, but way lower than higher limit). I think it should be enforced that people go no less than 10mph under the speed limit (for regular cars, that is), and not doing so should entail very similar tickets to those you can get for speeding. Maybe an unpopular opinion, as many people would instinctively claim that "they have every right to go as slow as they want, but people should not go as fast as they want cause it seems very risky", but we should legislate based on reason, all the more so if it can safe lives.

As for references I could find on the internet, well, it's a controversial topic, but I found articles like this https://sites.psu.edu/siowfa15/2015/09/18/is-driving-faster-safer/ that seems to back this up.

So yeah, in my opinion and to sum it up, if you wanna lessen the impact "speed" has as an accident cause, focus more on equalizing the speeds. This can be achieved by raising the upper limit to one most people feel comfortable with (reducing the number of speeding offenders while keeping the limits fairly safe from a physics standpoint), and raising the lower limit so it's much closer the upper limit (forcing the turtles to keep up with the rest of drivers).

So I did a urine test last week because my parents commented that there's foam in it. The results came in today and... what do you know, it came out normal. Bleh. All that anxiety for nothing. Phew. No dialysis, no kidney problems. Daijoubu. Momentai, momentai. Feel a sense of relief and slight elation. Looks like I'm going to live on for quite a while.

I just found out that Amane from Grisaia, Sumika from Muv-Luv and Miyako from ef~ have the same seiyuu. I was flabbergasted even though it's so obvious when you think about their voices. I should probably be ashamed of myself for not realizing this earlier, considering they are not only from VNs I love but also characters I love too. Oh well :yumiko:

As I don't like making new threads for random stuff, I guess I can just post it here... Tumblr suddenly lost its mind and decided to boot the only reason anyone cares about the site, that is nsfw content. I don't really care about its suicidal tendencies, but just as it happened with JiveJournal a few years ago, it would suck to see content creators that build whole communities and often their livelihoods around the site having to leave it and lose much of what they worked for. There's a petition to make Tumblr go back on the policy change - it has little chance to work, but I still prefer it over doing nothing. I encourage everyone to join in, if you don't want to see innocent anime boobs being culled in mass. :isla:

Just a small update - the petition crossed 220k signatures now and might even reach quarter million within 24 hours from campaign's launch. I'm still unsure whether it has any chance at making a difference, but it will definitely make some execs at Tumblr feel uneasy and if it gets rejected, I hope the huge "FU" towards the community will encourage even many SFW creators to leave the site. With this kind of response, things should definitely get interesting. :>

Fap'em while you can! :mare: I'm sure the more risque pornographic Tumblr sites would have tons of hit over the next month. Not bad for a final hurrah for them.
