I doubt I'm in the majority here, but I will literally never touch this game as long as it's only available on Steam.  I have people I know in real life on my friends list, and there's no way I'll publically buy a tentacle rape game, censored or not, on a platform where they can see that I own it.

I understand your perspective, but at the same time, if your friends don't accept you and your tentacle rape fetish, are they really your friends in the first place?

This is actually really valuable feedback.  It's the sort of "silent majority" opinion that could very easily fly under the radar yet be very important.  Privacy concerns are a major pitfall of trying to sell eroge on Steam.  Not everyone wants to broadcast their interest in this genre to the world.  That's yet another reason to make this game available on at least one other platform, bringing the tally to at least 3 (no-fuss adult version that doesn't require a patch / isn't pretending to be something it isn't, could enable a release without mosaics, respect for privacy concerns).

Read through the English trial (fairly short, no gameplay shown). I saw someone claim that there's no editor on this, and well, it shows. Besides awkward wording, there are quite a few more blatant problems like mixing tenses in the same line or even sentence. As a raw translation, which I'll assume it is, it doesn't look too bad - there's definitely some effort put into it. The awkward phrasing you can probably get people to live with from a cynical point of view, but the tense stuff is going to be jarring to more people in my experience. I recommend trying to get some kind of skilled QA on the project. If you want quality you also need to do better self-editing (hard to do though) or hire a good editor.

Decided to make an imgur album w/ some screen of quality issues. Be aware that it's in reverse chronological order because imgur hates making sense.

Actual game looks like it could be quite entertaining. I'm considering just reading it in Japanese to be honest.

Well, it's not like I can't understand why you would feel this way, people can be very judgemental. I'll bring this up to the director but we are having talks with other sales platforms and we'll see if we can come to an understanding with company V to release on like, Jlist or something.

Also, there is something I want to confirm with the director that might skirt by this steam thing, and that has something to do with backer rewards on KS, but no guarantees unfortunately. will update you guys.

Needs an editor

Game looks awesome

I appreciate the feedback, guys. I must say, I'm almost a bit embarrassed at my TL quality back when I first joined as an intern. I'll definitely be going through everything once the, well, 'raw' translations are over and done with, and probably edit it to make it more...readable, so to speak? And the tenses are a problem I am aware of and plan to fix before release. Hopefully I don't miss any...

Considering the current situation at our company, it'll probably end up being self editing after all is done.

I'll look through the images, thanks for the help.

By the way, guys, most of the stuff here is technically off the record. If you want concrete answers or rather, official ones, please direct them to twitter or when the prefundia/kickstarter page is up.

Most of what I answer here does not necessarily mean that all of ninetail thinks that way, and could be tainted by my own bias or misunderstandings of the goings on behind the scenes. I'd appreciate it if you took my words more as a...personal prediction moreso than an official announcement.

I do very much appreciate your advice and feedback, but please wait for official announcements by the official twitter, or on prefundia, or kickstarter and such! Thanks.

Well, I mean, feedback and advice is no problem, but please direct questions at the official twitter, thanks!

Edit: Also I got a warning from my boss that I may indeed be breaking NDA by revealing too much information here, so I'll probably be abstaining from posting anything more on this thread.

Please direct any questions or inquiries at the official twitter, thanks! If you want to talk to me personally or have feedback and or advice, a private message on twitter would work, so please make use of that!

Project leader Keimaru posted some additional info on Twitter:

  • He realizes that the concept of an all-ages Venus Blood is a bit absurd.
  • He's been surprised by the swell of very forward-thinking user feedback.
  • The current plan is to launch the Prefundia in mid-May, but due to user feedback that may be delayed.
  • He's willing to hire additional translation, editing, and debug staff if the Kickstarter does well enough.
  • There's only so much that Ninetail can do at its own discretion, and therefore this is all subject to approval.

There's also a comment about "colorful tofu" which I can only assume is a euphemism for porn.

Also, I appear to have gotten assasinzassasin in trouble for disclosing too much by tweeting about the discussion here and elsewhere.  I do however think that there's been valuable feedback that'll allow them to adjust their plans before they're widely disseminated and the die is already cast, so to speak.

Do you have a link to this tweet? It does not seem to be posted on their official PR twitter accout. (EDIT: Never mind, found it by stalking your twitter (/ω\) )

I mean, they might.

I sent them some questions, and they replied quite fast saying they "sent them in for review." Whether they will actually be answered or not I don't know, but at least they responded to the email. So, at least someone saw them! Intern #13, sup!

I prepared a few basic questions:

  1. What led you to choose Venus Blood Frontier over the many other excellent titles that Ninetail has released over the years?
  2. Venus Blood Frontier contains a great deal of sexual content.  Why Kickstarter and Steam rather than platforms that are more friendly to adult content (see Crowdfunding sites for Adult Content)?
  3. You mentioned that the game would be released on Steam with a patch to restore the adult content.  What would be the timing of this patch and how would it be distributed?  Other Kickstarter projects have made similar promises but have disappointed (e.g., 8 months after MuvLuv Alternative was released on Steam there's still no adult content patch).
  4. Ability to complete the proposed project on time and while meeting quality standards is always a concern on Kickstarter.  What experience does the project staff have with localization projects and crowdfunding in general?
  5. Early rumors have suggested that a single staff member will be performing multiple roles that are typically distributed among a team of specialists for a project of this size.  If true, does this staff member have prior experience in each of these roles?  What is the contingency plan if this staff member becomes overwhelmed?
  6. Success on Kickstarter depends as much on marketing and publicity as it does on a great product.  How does Ninetail plan to reach and appeal to the various fanbases (e.g., of strategy RPGs, visual novels, and ero) that might be interested in this product?
  7. A small number of generous contributors typically account for a large share of crowdfunding proceeds.  What sort of exclusive rewards do you have planned to appeal to these "super-fans"?
  8. fan translation of Venus Blood Chimera was released in January 2018.  What is your attitude towards this project, and to fan translation projects in general?
  9. Backers of crowdfunding projects tend to be fans interested in the future of the company moreso than just the success of a given project. If Venus Blood Frontier succeeds, what next?

not sure if sanahtig is a philosopher or actually a VN reporter.

looking forward from the developer's answer maybe in this forum or in reddit.
maybe ill question them "in case they succeed without major problems will they localiZed a lighter one or a darker one???"

I'm going with the later, especially when we know that journalism is also involved with some investigation article and opinion writing, and considering Sanahtlig always do that (At least from my observation) I think it's quite fitting.

As for the KS, not quite interested with this for now especially when I'm waiting for Evenicle here. The current VNDB average score for this definitely didn't help at all. Good luck to the KS though and hopefully it'll be successful.

Hey, I'd like to think they at least make good on their word, so just send a question in if you have something you want to know or ask the director. Although by now you may not make it to the deadline...

Well, it's written there 'Might feature it' so there is probably a chance it will go on, supposing you don't ask sensitive questions.

And of course someone saw them, I'm sure that staff member who...erm, got in trouble is technically still working there, and this too is part of his job, I think.

Hohoho. Here's some news.

  • In addition to steam, the game will also be sold on the JAST Store.
    • The one sold on JAST will be uncensored (I think).
    • The JAST store will also host the uncensor patch for the Steam version (for free).
  • It'll have no mosaics.
  • Perfundia will be up by or around 26/06/2018
  • The kickstarter will give us a new trial that will include gameplay segments.

Read those tweets for information straight from the source and not misinterpreted by me.

Well hey, we aim to please.

Oh wait I shouldn't be on here.

Er, definitely hope you guys are happy! I certainly am.

Seeing you guys happy and satisfied makes me feel that all that effort wasn't wasted! It was worth all the trouble and hard work to make it a reality.

Hope you guys will continue to support us!

You perhaps referring to your little stunt that got you into a pickle? =3

No, but seriously, I like to think I speak for a lot of us when I say we definitely appreciate all you and ninetail do for us.

Can't wait to find out what goodies you have in store for us to be backers!

Just in case you still interested with funding this VN, here's Prefundia page for this VN so feel free to take the look at. As for the goal, it's quite big after many times saw many KS with the goal were only ~30,000 so perhaps it'll face some difficulty, but then again it might be possible that the backer want to see first(?) tentacle VN get kickstarted so I'll just wait and see in regard of this.

Considering how huge the game is, I'd say what they are asking is very reasonable. With a game this size, asking anyting less would probably lead to massive losses for them.

I'll just leave my feedback here since Prefundia may never get around to restoring my comment (which was marked as spam):

Ninetail did a great job responding to fan concerns after the early info leaks: confirming an 18+ release on JAST, mosaic removal, and a free 18+ patch for the Steam version to be released same-day. Base goal seems reasonable and likely to be achieved. A gameplay trial (presumably released in time for the Kickstarter?) should win over SRPG lovers. $30 is VERY reasonable for a massive, complex game like this with high replay value.

However, I do still have concerns:

  1. The project page seems rather "rough". The writing looks like the rushed work of one person without editing. I haven't played the demo yet, but I hear it suffers from similar issues. You really need a professional editor to raise this from "passionate amateur" to "competent professional" tier. There's so much love and care put into the original writing, and it's a shame to see it degrade in translation. At the very least, professional editing should be added as stretch goal #1.
  2. You mention that parts of the translation will be outsourced. To whom, and how much? What sort of quality can we expect? Can you give us a sample of their work or tell us what VNs they've translated?

Honestly, I'd rather see professional editing and no TL outsourcing, especially with no samples of their work provided. Adding an editor to the TL workflow should increase both the speed and the quality of the translation. It's the industry standard method of localization. Even fan translations use editors, and they're generally easier to find than JP -> ENG translators too.
