Fetishes in VN/eroge

Good evenning, peoples

I was talking with a real-life friend these days about my work with the genre Visual Novel on college, and I suggested some titles for him (although he didn't try any). In the middle of the conversation, I talked about Euphoria and how specific the game can be despite its good story/plot twists. He questioned me if people actually like this kind of stuff in real life, or if it is just in games.

For those who don't know Euphoria, it is basically a horror game with a lot of different sexual fetishes, that go from bonding through ingesting dark brown fluids.

The point is: here on the forums and many other otaku environments, we constantly see not only fans of this, but people who enjoy many kinds of fetishes in their eroge, being the most common one, I think, imouto relationships. I, silvz, told this friend of mine that my tastes for art are completely different from the ones in real life, so even though I enjoyed Euphoria, I know that I'd never do any of the stuff it has. The same with imoutos, for instance; although I'm gay, I do have a younger sister, so I cannot see the "sister complex" as a real thing outside the boundaries of otaku stuff.

But there are also many fetishes portrayed in eroges, such as twins, teacher/student, feet, even behavioral ones, such as innocent girl/bad boy, dere girls, shy people, etc, so it is not like I cannot see how some of these fetishes could be brought to reality.

And then, I'd like to start this discussion about fetishes and how you guys face this subject (spare us from the details, just give your opinion)

I'd like to warn, though, that the subject of underage people or crimes (rape, gore etc) are to be avoided.

Fetishes that involve death or permanent body harm (amputees are moe), as well as things which are literally impossible in real life stay in the realm of VNs of course.

All my other fetishes like the usual SM stuff still cross over to real life, though.

There's a practicality thing to it even in real life. A lot of people in BDSM communities I met over the years find the *idea* of being tied to the wall of a basement for 3 days hot, but 99% of them wouldn't do it because it'd be very uncomfortable, boring and it'd hurt.

Similarly, having to dedicate your life to taking care of an amputee girl isn't something most people think as fun, but as fiction it works well.

I think there's a divide on what's fetishized and what you'd actually do in real life for everyone.

I'm pretty vanilla on that realm, the biggest fetish that I have on real and virtual live is striped panties, but I think that everyone has that.

Though i don't have problems with standard torture/gore and variations when sex is added to the equation it become repulsive to me.

Never saw anyone with this kind of fetish

My vanilla fetishes in eroge have translated over to the real world as well. For example, the main thing with me is Kyonyuus in VNs. I will probably play any nukige involving a fixation on that aspect and that seems to have become my preference in real life as well.

As for fetishes that are off the table for me in real life, definitely my fixation with onee-sans because, you know, incest and all that. Plus, I have a younger sister so it just seems weird to have that kind of fetish.

Btw, Euphoria became a meme with a few of my friends because of its content. They don't get why I like VNs so much anyways so seeing all of the content that was in Euphoria was pretty hilarious to them. I didn't mind it becoming a joke anyways because I'm not a fan of Euphoria overall.

How I face fetish is simple really, I don't care. Don't think a fantasy could define a person, and as long as it is just a fantasy (in the case of the extreme fetishes), I'm A-Okay. :mare:

Though I guess some absurdities like, huh... Breast Pregnancy\Chikan\Rape=Love

Make feel very perplexed.

Spare us from the sordid details, such as "I like sitting in my lover's face and pooping in his mouth".

ah, glad i held off then.

...i mean, what? :rimu:

but yeah, i just read things that cater to that fetish really. not like i can get a gf pregnant and lust after her for 9 months than either dump her or knock her up again.

tmi? :rimu:

also, i wanna say that euphoria doesnt cater to any of my fetishes. the few, and i mean very few, vanilla moments, yeah but most of it was not for me. i knew what i was getting into but read it anyways since i like clock up stuff. dont regret it. good vn.

I have a particular fondness for heroines, which are vastly different from society they live in - not only in terms of being different in appearance, but psychological standpoint as well. This is perhaps why I love "monster girls" so much. It's particularly interesting to follow their lives between what we'd seemingly call "normal" and see how they cope with all the related problems, which stem from them being plain different to complete hatred from other people only because they are something others aren't.

In-between relationships thing and bonds that form between people based on many different factors, I'd have to include maids as well. I'm a fag when it comes to maids and their work. It's the relationships they form with their masters - but not just plain servitude, but complete devotion - both to their work and their masters, often for the rest of their lives. Obviously, it's different from real life, where maids are just paid servants, but the more satisfying it is, when you have a story which is able to delve into that sort of servitude and love (often twisted to some extent), where a maid swears to serve and even protect their masters, both in good and wrong. It's the ultimate sort of affection and loyalty that surpasses any known boundaries.

Eternal life and it's implications might be another, especially if related to the previous one. What about heroines, who are forced into eternal lives to serve someone else, especially if it's done against their will?

In terms of more plain fetishes... I'd have to include feet and animal ears & tails; a bit of good ol' fashioned S/M isn't bad, either - especially if it involves stepping on people :holo:

In terms of eroge, there are few fetishes I don't have to at least some degree. (The only ones that comes to mind would be NTR and cheating.) I like most things, really, from the most boring vanilla to more extreme stuff like guro, vore, ryona etc. (All the dark fetishes I have are 100% exclusive to 2D content, and none of them crosses over to IRL fetishes.)

One thing I like in darker 2D games that might be a bit unique is "dead eyes/ dead stares," often found in mindbreak stuff etc. Some examples below. (While they are cropped to be SFW, I'll put the links in a spoiler, because of the nature of the content. Don't actually open them at work. :P )

Spoiler

This, this and this.

IRL I am a huge vanilla pleb. I have a thing for onee-san types/ older women/ teachers.

My tastes are super-vanilla, but it's also because I really can't truly separate my RL preferences and moral stances from what I like in fiction - if I wouldn't accept something in real life, I won't really enjoy it in VNs - or at least I won't enjoy it "that way", because obviously many fucked up themes, including explicit ones, can be used for crafting an interesting story rather than just offering fap material. I haven't played through any of those grimdark VNs such as Euphoria or Saya no Uta, but I don't think I'd hate reading them - I'll just never look that way when looking for a turn-on either.

For the same reason though, I don't truly understand people that are into various rather harmless sexual themes in VNs and anime (lesbian romance, incest between consenting adults etc.) but go on rants how they don't accept such stuff in the real world. I mean, maybe they're just fapping to those stories without catching any meaning associated with them? It just feels like pure bigotry to me.

EDIT: And with the question on the translating the VN/anime fetishes into RL, I think Kaguya's post would be a good point of reference - while he can pretty easily implement his more moderate BDSM fantasies in real world, my chances at becoming a cute lesbian dating other cute lesbians are rather slim. :wahaha:

Huh... of course, if the fetish exists, there are people who'd love to put that into practise.

There are coprophages, urophiliacs, and child molesters out there.

If anything I'd say that the RL tastes far surpass the fantasy ones.

That's why I approach love of lolis with caution -you never know when your fetish is simply aesthetic and platonic, and when it will become a big part of your sexuality. Ahem, I know loli porn is a sensitive matter here, so admins, feel free to edit this, though I wanted to state my opinion.

Do you think eroge have invented anything at all? Most of those fetishes are as old as the world. Eroge just cater to that.

The only fetish-related VN I can think of, which I recall reading on an article somewhere (can't remember where), is one dedicated to the fat fetish called "Debu Plus". I'm not sure if you guys even know what it is, but basically, it's about a guy dating a fat girl and getting into things like feederism. I won't judge, but it's not my thing.

Oh, and don't forget Libra of the Vampire Princess. Lots of peeing.

As for my actual fetishes, well, they're pretty strange. I have a thing for girls wearing Victorian or 19th Century dresses. Yeah, it's bizarre, and I don't think there's a VN in existence that has this. The closest things being maid and lolita outfits.

While I don't think I have any particular fetishes and in that regard I have very little to say, I also usually don't mind any fetish with the obvious exception of... let's say crimes (though morally reprehensible would be more accurate in my opinion, since sometimes law and morals don't match) and the perhaps less obvious one of eschatology. But even so, I still read Euphoria... ctrling every h-scene, but still.

I think that the archetypal nature of many characters and storylines let people ignore what it is they're beating their meat to.

There are so many common, trite and unrealistic situations/events/characterizations in eroge that it starts to make the audience view the VN's perspective as sort of its own perspective of rules. These inconsistencies (wrt. real life) such as deflowering/first sex always going smoothly, the girl always orgasming, unrealistic amounts of sperm and stamina etc. make us implicitly think "Okay this is obviously not realistic sex so I can suspend judgment on what I'm seeing." I call this "hentai logic", because the eroge scene's tropes in this regard very closely mirror the hentai industry. "Hentai logic", in other words, lets us excuse the myriad occurrences of sexism, rape (violation of consent, in many small and dismissed ways), and manipulation, which leads to a greater amount of people who can stomach fictional fetishes that are outright disgusting and tragic ("otherwise"). I'm still trying to come to terms on how valid that argument is in terms of moral ground.

"Hentai logic" lets us ignore the consequences of the actions we fap to. I believe that's why we so often see people whose fetishes in fiction don't always transfer to real life.

In the end, it's just pornography.

But surely, I don't think I'm the only one who thinks fapping to rape says something about you, and probably something wrong. It's not like violence in regular video games, because that's taken for granted and people aren't generally excited by the violence, but the thrill and the action.

Think for just a moment, being aroused to things like rape is just... wrong.
