Kiss for the petals order?

Hey, I'm very close to finish my second playthrough of Umineko, and I've been talking so much about it that I can't stand it anymore. Well, I've been looking into what to read after it, and I want something very, very light so my head don't pop.

Since I got A Kiss for The Petals - Remembering how we met, I thought this could be my next read, as I know the next one is/was to come soon.

However, most who know the series also knows that there are a ton of games, and it seems they deal with different characters, and even different stories. I don't want to start something just to find out that I missed the whole plot that comes before it.

Then, the thread title: how should I read A Kiss For The Petals? In which order?

Another interesting thing that I saw is that some previous entries were more sex focused? If so, should I read all of them, or each game is self contained enough?

Doesn't matter, they're mostly self-contained and mostly 100% porn with very little else to it.

Some games are the second installment of a previously established pairing, or couples from previous entries briefly appear, though.

If you don't like missing out on that stuff, the "right" play order is from 1 to the last.

I don't think that you really have to read them in any particular order, except for the fact that each pairing has two games that you probably should read back to back, but I would still recommend reading them all. They're really short, fluffy, and have surprisingly lovable characters despite being short and more or less being almost entirely sex driven.

And what about these mangagamer/steam releases? Do they have the same couples?

I don't mind missing information from other games, what I don't want is to start reading a story from the middle. But as you guys explained, it is not the case.

Just for the sake of curiosity, once I started a five-book series from the second entry, just to find out that I missed the first.

In that case, if you start from the first one then you should play sixth one, because the six parts was a sequel to the first one (The couple). So the order for each couple goes like second to fourth (Kaede x Sara), third to fifth (Mai x Reo), seventh to ninth (Takako x Runa), then eighth to tenth (Shizuku x Eris).

As for the case whether you started the game in the middle or not, it's quite complicated to explain. But basically the first 10 game explained of how the couple managed to get of how they were right now, so it may be a nice read if you want to know their past. Although if I may suggest, then perhaps you could just play Sono Hanabira 11 without worrying that because the main story was ultimately between Risa and Miya, and read 10 VNs can be quite overwhelming (Feel free to do so though if you wish).

As for the Steam version, basically it's the sequel of the later Sono Hanabira but apparently they featured of how both of Risa and Miya met. So maybe it'll be an interesting read as well before reading Sono Hanabira 11, if you felt that you need to read that first. Oh, and I think it's pretty much standalone series even though it's supposed to be the sequel.

That's all what I can answer for now, and feel free to ask if you still not clear.

So the one that I have is actually the sequel of the one it is being released on the 22th? (Maidens of Michael) If so, I will wait for it to be released.

Yes it is, though Maidens of Micheal also serves as a continuation for the previous couples as well.

And I am beyond hyped for it.

The link above is the best route to approach the SonoHana games. While there are not a ton of things you REALLY have to know (because "Maidens of Michael" does a good job reintroducing the couples—enough to help you understand why they are where they are), I would definitely recommend playing all of the games in the order mentioned in that link.

"Maidens of Michael", chronologically speaking, does come before "Remembering How We Met" (which is actually a sequel to the as-of-yet untranslated 15th game "Snow White's Knight", which you'll notice a previous Best Couple is missing (Rena/Runa can't be a best couple for reasons you either already know about or will find out in "Maidens of Michael") and has been replaced with a new one) and "New Generation!" "New Generation!" in particular takes place after all of the previous Best Couples (including Sayuki and Rikka) are graduated and off doing whatever it is they decide to do. So there's actually a pretty large time window involved here.

Also, if you organize the game releases by date on VNDB, you'll get the same recommended playing order, honestly. "Maidens of Michael" is the eleventh game of the series.

Yes and No!

You don't have to force yourself to play all Couples. Just play the ones you like. In Maidens of Micheal you can choose the Routes anyway.
Furthermore read A Kiss For The Petals - Remembering How We Met before you start with Maidens of Micheal because it tells the Story how Risa and Miya met and became a couple.

Therefore:
Read all or the couples you like ---> Remembering how we met ---> Maidens Micheal.

Adittionally I would recommend you also to read Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o - New Gen!. I really liked the Sister-Incest-Route.

But it isn't a sequel!
