WHO ENDS A VN LIKE THIS!!!!

Frontwing? :rimu:

Edit. Sorry for an unfunny joke, but I couldn't stop myself. :D

As for the VN, I'm probably going to read it next. (Like always, my backlog never actually mattered.) I wonder what this rumored ending is and whether I should be afraid of it.

...so, i guess no one is actually going to talk about what their problem was for the ending of rakuen?

The problem was the ending for meikyuu not rakuen. And it was a cliffhanger, of such bullshit proportions, that it felt like a movie trailer rather than a VN. Rakuen concludes it quite nicely. I'm just imagining, people who played meikyuu when rakuen wasn't released, or if they wanted to wait for the 18+ version.

This is probably why raken was rated lower than the others. By the time it came out and people got it, they lost a lot of the interest and continuity, as it starts out extremely fast paced and relies on the build up from meikyuu to capture interest.

In all actuality, Kaijitsu could be played standalone, but if you play meikyuu you need to play rakuen as soon as possible.

This is probably the best I can do without spoilers.

Eh, we knew that the series was going to be a trilogy, so we knew that we weren't likely to get any real conclusion in Meikyuu.
Heck, Meikyuu was more or less just context dump for Rakuen with no real story of its own,
so the only way I could see Meikyuu ending without being a cliffhunger would be to just have Yuuji return to the school in peace,
"and they lived happily there after THE END" which seems really boring.

Well, they technically already did that with Kajitsu for across all of five routes. So I think it's still possible if Frontwing did that, except of course just like you said it would be boring for some people.

As for Kajitsu, I would say that maybe it was true that it's planned as the trilogy at the beginning, but unfortunately the situation forced them to make Kajitsu could be able to standalone. And so what we have here is that Kajitsu was the charage that consist of five routes and contain very little of foreshadowing, because back then Frontwing was probably planned that as their last VN in case Kajitsu was failed. To no surprise, Kajitsu was very successful and of course the logical thing for them would be announced both of Meikyuu and Rakuen, since Frontwing was probably need more money to ensure the company survival - it could be explain the reason of why they decided to expand overseas as well. As the result, the cliffhanger ending of Meikyuu was probably the decision that came along with the their situation, because it could make sure that there would be many potential buyer for Rakuen. At least we wouldn't felt cheated nowadays because we have both of the VNs, but keep in mind that there's a year gap between Meikyuu and Rakuen release in Japan so the effect was larger back when Meikyuu was just released.
