To Play or not to Play?

Not sure if there is a thread for this. And I guess it would be good if anyone could use this to ask a question in the same way.

It is not really a recommendation as I am asking if YOU think these games are worth playing.

Here is my question:

I have been trying to get the courage to play Crescendo and A Profile for a while, mainly to play two routes which I have heard are the best, but sound a bit hard to stomach (Yuka/Miou).

Do these routes handle the rather unpleasant themes well? IS there a good reason for what they are doing/have done, does it get given the proper attention/development and do they have happy (atleast relatively) endings?

Are the people saying these routes are so great in the minority? Maybe they are NTR lovers or something lol?

lol, im not an ntr lover and i can say that those two routes are my favorite in those vns. in a profile miou's route is last so if its bad maybe youll enjoy the other routes? both yuka's and mious routes are hard to stomach for reasons i cant state for spoilers but they are a an enjoyable read for sure in the end. and yuka's route in crescendo isnt the only route and isnt mandatory. the other girls routes arent bad so again, you might like those to make up for hers if you do have a hard time with her route.

bottom line, give them a read. and yes, keep in mind they do have happy endings.

I think A Profile is above average, so read it. Both games have sad moments, I think A Profile shows different life issues with each one being a route, crescendo is more romance oriented (iirc).

I haven't played A Profile, but I definitely recommend Crescendo. Most of the routes are light hearted romance that, while too short for me, are pretty satisfying, but Yuka's (and one more route, don't want to spoil too much) is significantly darker which provides a nice contrast. You can go for a light hearted route after a heavy one to cheer up.

About the route in question:

Yuka was my least favorite heroine, but I still thought it was the best route of the game. It was interesting, it was memorable and the feeling when you reach a good ending after a heavy route like that is different than when it's all fun and games. Also it has the best 'bad' ending of the game. There was one thing that was handled quite poorly in my opinion, but saying anything more would go into spoilers.

Don't know about you, but it was really unpleasant for me, because I can't handle such stuff that well, but I am still glad I read it.

I'm not familiar with A Profile, however I firmly believe that you should play and give Crescendo a chance! Has a decent amount of routes or choices and its a pretty nice VN to play overall despite how old it may be.  Haven't finished it yet due to real life issues and other distractions but I'm sure you won't regret when you play. Well the more the games/VNs you have. the better! All you need is "time" to actually get through them all. However I kinda envy most people here who has all the time in the world to really read/play VNs. :Chocola:

I'm a strong proponent of Yuka... and maybe Kaori, the nurse from Crescendo, too.

However, I don't really recommend A Profile, that's a mess as far as I'm concerned. Miou's route... it's very convoluted like the rest of the game, and it won't give a good aftertaste. I'll leave it at that. Even the infamous Yume Miru Kusuri I put above A Profile.

Hey thanks for the feedback, jury is still out on A Profile, but I think you have convinced me to give Crescendo and A Profile a chance thanks!

Also @Okarin

Yume Miru Kusuri was already on my list to play.

After I finish playing Duel Savior I feel like playing a nakige and Aeka and Mizuki routes in that game were the next on my list.

Is it not a good VN? I saw quite a lot of praise for it tbh. Also didnt see any thing that suggested actual r$pe or anything in it (only attempted).

What is "infamous" about it?

Yume Miru Kusuri... ugh. Not bad per se, but not very well handled. Aeka route is your typical bullying route with a lot of shock value, but at the end you keep wondering if you really care for her. Mizuki... no spoilers but ugh. Nekoko, is maybe the most enjoyable but it can be better.

The most "infamous" aspect of YMK is the mountains of porn that pop up suddenly in the middle of the narration. It's a bit jarring.

Still, YMK is 12 years old. There are surely better options at its length. All in all it didn't impress me.

Besides, I wouldn't rate it as nakige... you won't cry very much, and the drama is handled differently. It's 3 cases of mundane drama presented as something great, but it isn't.

Ah ok, well I will give it a go, I indeed do not like random, unneccesary sex scenes, but I guess I will give the game a chance.

Thanks for your views, I will bare them in mind. I guess lowering my expectations before reading it might be a good thing!
