Searching for some School-life romance VNs with a "light-hearted" vibe to them

Note: This is To Heart "unnumbered" not To Heart "2" I'm talking about.

To Heart forces the players to choose 2~3 out of 5 locations everyday, which may or may not have a heroine waiting.
You won't be able to search every location, and if you miss a single event for a heroine, you may not be able to get her ending.
So basically it's a heavy saving-and-loading game that forces a lot of unnecessary tediousness on the player.

I see now that it has newer versions that may have improved on this.

Yeah To Heart 2 is a very different game to the first (and IMO much better.) The opening poster also asked for a translated game and To Heart is unfortunately not (and I certainly do not have any intention to translate it.)

All recommendations are in bold~

Criteria -> School-life

               Light hearted vibes

As you want something light hearted it immediately eliminates stuff like yume miru kusuri or grisaia.

Most of the pure school life VN's have been recommended, so the ones I am recommending have bits of chuuni/magic/fantasy type settings in them.

Majikoi -> One of the best casts I have ever seen in any VN. Incredibly well developed and believable group with both male and female cast members getting plenty of screen time. Several light hearted moments, plenty of comedy and above average storyline. Further the protag is not useless. Even at its darkest it does not really get overly harsh.

My Girlfriend is the President -> Another very enjoyable VN. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and is chock full of references related to literaly everything. Absolutely hilarious. Probably what you are looking for.

Koi ga Saku Koro Sakura Doki-> I've only played one route, and don't really think its great, but that's mainly because nothing really happens. A very casual VN that is pretty much completely slice of life/school life.

Ourai no Gahkthun -> Set in a school, does not ever get very dark. However it is not completely light-hearted either, though it has its moments. Told in an episodic format, the best comparison I can think of for it is the anime mushishi.

I would also recommend you play KiraKira, skipping kirari's route which is very dark (not what you would like). The slice of life/drama/comedy is increadibly good though so don't miss out on it.

DearDrops is pretty much exactly what you want without the school life.

Started Majikoi a few Hours ago....already dropped it! Here's my experience with it:

-Started the story
-Started to like the setting
-smelled something "fishy"...dunno what.
-continued to play the story nontheless.
-a certain character appeared, and I already knew what heroine I would choose. (If you know my tastes, it's not hard to figure out who)
-the "fishy smell" increased. 
-conducted a personal research about her route. Better safe than sorry, expecially considering my recent VN experiences
-"group sex" tag on her vndb page.
- I thought it would be something like KoiNatsu: an "after story" thing or something from a fandisc.
-I decided to continue my research.
-I watched a walkthrough.
-My instinct was right.
-Dropped it.

A pity, though. It seemed an High quality VN.

Oh, I finished Harukoi Otome. Well, an experience pretty similar to Princess Evangile. (not that I disliked it!)

...Were are the VNs of the same calibre as Noble Works...? *sigh*

Well, as you know,I already played it. It's pretty rare, for me, to play a VN two times with  two different heroines...I tend to have pretty selective tastes.
The only girl I found "interesting" in To Heart 2 was Sasara (blue-eyed, fair-skinned coodere. what else do you want? A blue-eyed, fair-skinned classic tsundere, perhaps...anyway!)...and look at her ending. Too bad, though.

You should at least play Kazuko route.
I went in without too much expectation for her, but I came out with her as my favorite.

I'd recommend games but all the school type games I know are untranslated :/

We seem to have similar tastes, Momoyo in Majikoi (that is who I assume u are talking about =/) was certaintly one I was looking forward to, are you saying she unavoidably gets banged by a bunch of other guys even before or during her route? Thats a bummer -.-, presume it would have to be something like that for it to be serious enough to drop it (think I will give it a chance still, but it is deffo a bummer!). If it is MC and another women I guess I can handle it, altho I would still prefer it wasnt

Well, I'm a pretty practical guy: even if she was "acting", she kissed another guy nontheless. And the main character pushed her to do so. That's despicable. A kiss is still a kiss, imho...
I was hoping for her to live a "normal life" as she wishes to do: I mean, she wanted to attend university and get a "normal" job....THAT WAS HER WISH. She never said she wanted to be an actress again. Her mother wanted her to return to the showbiz only because she's a greedy b*tch that wants to exploit her daughter instead of finding a job for herself.
And the MC....well, he acted PERFECTLY until the 4th commercial ad. Then, he became the WORST MC EVER even worse than Aoi Minase from KonoOozora.
Maya had one of the best routes ever that was just destroyed by its ending.
I dropped HoshiMemo for a similar reason....no spoiler, though.

If both Chris and the other girl are willing and up for it to go at the same time with the MC then its up to them. Tho I have seen a certain other tag for Chris which I didnt like! So if it ties into that I may see your point. If ofc a protagonist willingly lets his gf sleep with another guy, that is a whole other matter, I would avoid like the plague lol. Pass on some no balls protagonist that would do that!

Hmm I must admit I did stop playing Hatsukoi, but my reason was that I heard a lot of people saying he was a really useless Protagonist, truth be told for as far as I got he was a pretty standard VN protagonist, think I am early on in the SC President route (I too decided I should do that route first despite wanting to do Maya......s route the whole time!), I plan to pick the game up properly tho. I actually liked the child hood friend aswell (altho I am probably alone in that, childhood friend chars always seem to be hated =D). Anyway, rest is in spoiler:

He wanted her to become an actress again (while she literally BEGGED him not to let her act again). And, man.....it was OBVIOUS that she would eventually shoot a "kiss" or a "sex" scene...she's not a child-actress anymore. Anyway, I'm not bitching about it, I am just saying that was a story development that, according to my personal tastes, ruins the whole route (The whole VN, actually...)
About the childhood friend, well...it's not that I despise childhood friend's routes....it's just that many of the childhood-friend heroines are brown-eyed deredere.
Not very fond of derederes....

Oh, about that....a good VN with a TSUNDERE childhood-friend heroine?? That would be interesting!

I guess the issue with that is that Tsundere doesnt suit a childhood friend character as much (if she has known MC so long (without being separated for a significant period of time) she is surely less likely to be tsundere with him).

 

With Maya, fair enough I guess, I have not started her route but I did think that what you describe would pretty much be her route.

Plenty of actresses refuse to shoot scenes of that nature, and even if they do, they do not actually have sex lol (some actresses probably do actually have sex, but one hopes only if they are single. and even then I would disapprove of that), they either just show passionate kissing and the rest is implied, or use camera angles to make it look like it. Altho maybe they do actually have sex in Japan lol, wouldn't surprise me too much =/ (altho I would still think not). Maybe I should play the route as I do know fully what you do, but I mean Its not like he is encouraging her to become a porn star.

Maybe i am missing the point, is what you didnt like that she will have to kiss other men as part of her job as an actress. Or is it that you just didnt want the route to go that way because you didnt think being an actress was what she truly wanted?

Note, I am not bitching either, tbh I just find other peoples differing views, likes and dislikes when playing VNs quite interesting.

Well, I recently saw Kyoukai no Kanata...I mean, it could be something similar to the relationship between Akihito and Mitsuki.

Well, It's simple: I find utterly umpleasant to see my designated heroine to kiss\do something more with any character other than the protagonist. It doesn't matter if it's with a guy or with another girl, if it's something related to her job or not, If it's something that the MC is into too or not. I just find it to be umpleasant, to say the least. Maybe it's because I often see the MC as my alter-ego, always putting myself in his shoes. (for example, I really liked the MC from Noble Works...he's believable and human. even if he was a little bit too..."clumsy" [not to say, a complete idiot] during a certain scene. While I hated Aoi from Kono Oozora for his "rushness" in his "sexual urges") By the way, I didn't want her to be an actress for three main reasons:

-She doesn't want to.
-She would eventually pick a role in wich she's supposed to kiss another guy
-It would have been anti-climatic and a declaration of defeat by the main character: he's not strong enough to protect her from the showbiz world that she hated that much.

I know I have some "extreme" tastes about that...but it just the way it is. That's why I'm having more and more trouble finding a decent VN that suits my tastes.
I like clear and simple things...but simplicity is not common in this day and age.

Nah I get you, and I really hate NTR, like really hate it, I do not get the Japanese fetish of playing as a dude getting cheated on at all! But I just do not consider that to be NTR, or even close, if a VN has a hint of actual NTR, I will not go near it (unless it is avoidable and/or I really like the sound of said VN and it is nothing major) =/.

Your tastes in this regard are indeed quite extreme, but to each their own, it is a shame to limit your options so much tho!

I mean the anime you mention for example, I wouldn't watch because the main protagonist is female, and this is actually because I also generally role play the MC and also do the same for anime to an extent, if the MC is Female I cannot do that so well (as I am ofc Male) =/ (Probably wrong, and I actually like the sound of that anime lol, but it is my own weird preference, yes there are male main characters, but needs to be the full protagonist for me).
