Steins;Gate Question

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking of getting Steins;Gate on Steam, but I'm concerned about something. What is the translation quality of the English version? Is the translation accurate and true to the original Japanese dialogue? I don't want to go through another repeat of Chrono Clock and Libra of the Vampire Princess, where the translation is either altered or barely readable.

I didn't notice anything as bad as the text was in Libra, actually I didn't see any noticable grammer or typing errors (or anything weird sounding). English isn't my native language though so I might have overlooked something.

I can't say anything about the accuracy to the jap. text, I didn't even start learning it when I played it.

The English version of Steins;Gate is wonderful compared to some of the visual novels that have been translated and put out on to the market. Almost all of the comedic and dark aspects of the original are in the English version. It was pretty great in my opinion.

About Steins Gate translation I think there's nothing wrong with that, because so far there's no talk about the translation. Besides, I think the translator for Steins Gate (He was also involved in Dies Irae) was good imo so I would suggest you to play Steins Gate there and find out the translation quality by yourself.

More accurately, as I understand Blick Winkel was the lead TL and did the majority of the work on Steins;Gate, and Reading Steiner (the guy who was part of the Dies Irae team) did a minority of the work.

At any rate, Steins;Gate has quite a nice TL. But then again, Chrono Clock's is also fine, so it just goes to show that the internet has no idea what it's talking about and you should probably make your own judgements (but Libra's TL is undeniably garbage).

I recommend Steins;Gate's Steam version, you'll get the full enjoyment from the game and won't miss anything. As far as I could tell from the Japanese audio, the game is decently translated. Plus it doesn't have that many tricky Japanese references, to holidays or customs for example. But it has a lot of scientific, specialised and meme terms, so it has a term appendix too.
