From r/visualnovels' discord: (ReadingSteiner is one of the translators btw)

Isn't this, erm, bad? Barely anyone buys dlcs and, from what I heard, we've already seen the same plan to fail spectacularly for ChuSinGura, even though their case is, admittedly, pretty different. Plus it will clearly deduct from the "prestige", new people won't perceive it as a big release when they see a weird free-to-play with dlcs.

I'm not so sure. Steamspy doesn't seem to track DLC sales so we can't really see what the DLC performance looked like, but over 100,000 people booted up CSG Chapter 1. That's an awful lot of people for that kind of game. There's a chance that sales model will actually work out in DI's favor if it gets people hooked on the game.

The 18+ patch simply puts the H back into those slots, keeping everything else the same

Okay, so I'm guessing that you've already read Dies. Do you think that the original H-scenes are important to the story, or, the scenes that replace them? Which adds to character development? What do each side offer?  Like Narcosis mentioned, is it 'important' scenes with the all ages version and bonding between characters in the H version?

I know it may sound like a silly question, but I realize with Vns that H-scenes can sometimes add a different dimension to characters, along with emotional bonding and communication. You get a different kind of understand of them, if written well. Not just porn.

Only two people according to the vote. Also to tell the truth, I want to ask if there is a vote for 'Wait and see' earlier but apparently it's no needed anymore because it's just very short delay.

As for the release format, it's interesting I guess in which it was reminded me of ChuSingura 46+1 in which it was had first chapter as free content while the rest of the parts was sold as DLC (In here, common route was free and heroines route was available as DLC). Looking forward to the release here, especially in regard of the writing in which apparently people hype for it so much (I'll still keep my expectation in average though in regard of the story).

PS - By the way, here's the video from Steam which contained some translation. Just look at these by yourselves to judge if the translation was good enough or not.

1st Video

2nd Video

3rd Video

4th Video

By the way, the soundtrack was quite good.

The structure is basically as they said it would be from the start: Split in two parts, both available at release. Except now the common route is free, when that wasn't thought to be the case before.

Because it's enormous game and cost would be enormous. Like 60$, which looks terryfying, from marketing standpoint. But two parts, 29.99$ each, looks nice and pleasant. ;)

Well on Steam, with two parts, you get double the reduced cost on a sale.

If you can wait until it's on sale, that is.

The publisher is apparently a company called "views Co., Ltd", anyone ever heard of it?

That's not quite how math works, unfortunately. 0.5 * 50 = (0.5 * 25) + (0.5 * 25)

I'm afraid I haven't read it yet, so I'm not sure how the scenes are like.

I'd imagine both versions of the scenes are "important", and that each of them adds something unique, though.

In the end it comes down to what you value the most I suppose. (Or you could play Amantes first, then check out the patch later.)

Oh okay, I guess I'll just start with Amantes then. Thanks for all the info mate :sachi:.

To anyone that's read Dies Irae already, do drop some knowledge about the differences and importance of scenes from the two versions if you know of them. Please and thank you!

Ps: without spoilers of course!

Is the common route long? Won't they lose a lot of impulse buys from the overhyped people this way?

Oh well, it's a Light's problem, at least the dlc route looks much more convenient than two different games for me.

Yeah, this is a double edged sword. One argument I've heard is that steam buyers tend not to play VNs for terribly long, so giving them a substantial chunk of VN to read for free actually makes them less likely to buy. They'll get their fill and move on.

Wow, it's actually out now. Though when you activate the keys it says "beta-testing". Don't know if it changes anything.

edit: The tweets saying that it's out just got deleted? Nevertheless, there are still keys on the backerkit.

the hud and all menus are still in japanese. No time to test it properly right now but it surely looks like a beta or something.

Not for me. Everything is in English.

As confirmed by the recent kickstarter update, it's not a beta build; it's the actual game. I have played the prologue now, and everything looks good. Think you should try reinstalling it or something.

Maybe I got an early build changed after I started the download.

~~~
Looks like the game isn't fully compatible with italian locale (and many others), I'll do some experiments tonight, maybe english is ok, dunno, JP locale seems to be ok but forcing people to change the locale in an official release is not a very elegant thing, at the very least.
It's still in Japanese for me, even though I tried reinstalling the game.
Is this connected to your previous post or to some other problem?
Yes, change the locale to JP and the game should show proper english menus. (haven't tested it yet, though)
