Frontwing will localize Subahibi this year

Well the thread title should be obvious. Let's just look at their tweet first.

Hype and pretentious issue aside, anyone looking forward to this? Personally I'm interested with that, though not as hyped as any other people though. Anyway, this is one of VN that had some history in regard of VN Translation scene, and it was already discussed to the death in this forum and VNDB as well (Maybe Reddit too). As for release year, not sure if it's real but let's just wait and see for now.

Fucking Finally! I thought they just forgot about Subahibi or something since they haven't announced anything in ages. I'm currently working through this VN when I have time, and despite a few flaws, I overall like it. I really want to recommend it to some friends of mine, but until it gets a translation I can't. I am most hyped since the Western VN community could always use more denpa!

To be honest, I might be looking forward to Island more than SubaHibi.

SubaHibi is one of those VNs that's been hyped too much. I've taken enough philosophy classes to know that "philosophical" means different things to most people than it does to me, and I mostly find the thing other people usually mean when they call something "philosophical" to be annoying, so given how often that label is affixed to SubaHibi, I'm leery of it. I'll play it, and I honestly expect I'll enjoy it, but I'm trying to intentionally tank my hopes for it so I can be pleasantly surprised.

From what I heard - it's much closer to 'philisophy teached in philisophy class' than colloqiual use of that word.

Anywayz - I'm not very hyped as well. Everybody is prasing that so much, even people who love VNs I loathe, that my 'red warning lamp' is blindingly glowing. [And I read Ikinari, which has a common route written by Sca-Ji, so I have some averse to this guy :x]
But we'll see. Good to see it actually getting released.

I'm not big on philosophy but I really enjoyed the parts that I played. The second chapter in particular functions really well as a sort of horror/mystery.

I'll be honest with you, while I like the VN, it has also disappointed me. It is dragged out in certain parts. The majority of the first chapter seems like filler, and some of the H-scenes almost made me drop the VN. Personally, I would play the VN because its denpa elements are good, and there isn't that much denpa (no less good denpa) out there.

Has anyone read this yet? If so, is it worth reading?

I've heard it has some rather...unorthodox porn in it.  Just a warning.  If you want an idea of what, go to the VNDB page and view all the tags (show the spoiler ones).

Other than that, I've heard it praised quite a bit, but some people don't seem to like Scaji's writing, and hate it.  Seems like it's either one or the other.

Bummer that Frontwing got it as that means it will be censored mosaics and indiegogo (I will hope it isn't though). I'm mixed on this on one hand it's great it's coming on the other I feel as if Frontwing may butcher a proper release for the reasons mentioned. If they piece-meal this game into multiple volumes so help me. I'll wait and see how Frontwing plans to release it before I 'jump for joy' about this announcement.

I'm personally excited about this either way (whether or not a major amount of censorship is involved; it doesn't matter to me that much, personally speaking).

Now, what I'm particularly hoping for is a future scenario wherein someone who isn't a part of any of these communities - who remains unaffected by all the hype/talk over the game that's been building up and boiling over for the past several years - hears about the game recently coming out and decides to play it on a complete whim. If that were to happen then perhaps they could end up writing some cool blog post or article about their experience if it manages to leave enough of a positive impact. I'd actually like to read something someone wrote about the game in English over a reread of the game in English, to be honest. :P

Edit: Reply to Fred's message here (Fuwa won't let me save an edited post that introduces a quote hmm) :

Yes! Pretty much what you said, @Fred the Barber! I want to add that; Subarashiki Hibi, as a creative venture into all of the subjects it outlines, shouldn't even be considered any version of 'philosophical' in the first place due to the nature of the work in that light. And anyways, while it may contain a fair amount of ambiguous and/or cryptic elements (symbolism, language, etc.) in certain sections of the narrative plus subtext that might feel somewhat perplexing at times, a description like that certainly doesn't equate in meaning to one that expresses 'what most would call "philosophical"'. When people are using a label or a name to call something by they have to first differentiate it from the actual term the label/name came from (and what it meant proper to them as an individual) internally. I think some amount of correction should be in order if people in communities are - on a constant growing basis - intentionally ignoring this social convention of keeping nonsense out of their description for something made to the public. I know how this occurs because I was a part of the problem a while back, and I really do apologize for that! Q_Q

Not to mention, the connotation that comes with this particular label being attached to Subahibi makes it out to be some grandiose sensationalist experience (which some will attach a definition that says "therefore it's amazing" to) when it is quite unlike that if you know more about how the game was produced and written. >.> In this I'm not saying that people should learn the context behind the production and creator/s even if they don't want to, but it's already a fact that you'd be automatically setting yourself up for disappointment if you think Subahibi's actually going to change your worldview on anything (as the hype would have us all believe).

Well, I said my piece. Just enjoy Subahibi for what it is and not what you expect it to be/think it should be, please. Myself and everybody else who have already read it can at least guarantee that it'll be an interesting and unique experience with a blend of stuff/ideas referenced you may or may not have heard, seen, or thought about before. In this way it makes it relatively difficult to describe how Subahibi is between each person, and there you have the definitive cause for this sort of hype to surround the work.

To all of you, SCA-JI fans out here.

I read Ikinari Anata ni Koishiteru. I know that common was rushed by SCA-ji to just get it done, because there were a lot of production problems.
But. Common route in Ikikoi have one of the most terrible 'abusing' type of 'tsundere' characters I have ever seen.
Also - a lot of totally unfunny humour.
And last thing - it had on absolutely great sequence. When they were 'investigating' school at night - that shit was like straight horror and it was really intense and creepy. I loved it.

Can I take any parts of that and hype(/unhype) myslef up for Subahibi, or is Ikinari completly and absolutelly uncomparable to Subahibi and vice versa?

There's one tsundere character. That's about the best comparison you can make.
