Question about 18+ Grisaia no Meikyuu

Recommended Posts

I saw on VNDB that it was scheduled for release sometime this month. I am pretty sure I remember that, as I checked it a couple times. I just checked again since December is almost over, and now the release is back to TBA. Was it delayed, or am I remembering things wrong?

"Hello Backers,

This will be a short update as we've been focused on getting The Labyrinth of Grisaia 18+ version ready. However, we're not able to make our last month's "End of December" release date due to the holidays.

However once the holidays are over we will continue to focus on getting the game ready for release.

We will keep everyone updated on future developments in 2017. We hope everyone has had a happy holidays."

to be fair, christmas did come out of no where this year. who could have predicted it?

It's Sekai's usual routine. Promise "the end of something" and then delay until everyone forgets about it. Then release it and wonder, why no one buys it. And to be fair, there's much more interesting stuff going on the Nekopara kickstarter, who cares about a hundred fans of uncensored Grisaia.

those stupid 18+ releases are time consuming as shit and perventing the physical copies to be finished. They weren't part of the kicksttarter, why the fuck they have the priority?

Because that "stupid 18+ release" is the way the game was originally created by Frontwing, and a lot of people are doing their best patiently waiting for said original version, but SP keeps delaying it which is quite annoying. That version doesn't have the priority at all; the cut version has been out for months. Meanwhile, fans who want the original game sit there waiting and waiting. I don't know how you could have gotten the idea that this version in any way has priority. In fact, SP openly stated that editing work on the text of the 18+ version, not even the port itself which is what is supposed to take time, had not yet began until after the release of the cut version in a kickstarter update. This is a kick in the gut to a lot of fans who want the real original game, not the cut version.

In any case it shouldn't have the priority over the physical copy simply because it wasn't part of the kickstarter tiers (it was added in the backerskit). Even more if the 18+ release will require more than 6 months to be finished.

Are you kidding me? 6 month are passed and the physical copy of Meikyuu is still in the limbo. This at least had some tentative release dates.

I was debating waiting for the 18+ release but then someone got me the steam version. /shrug. I'll just buy the trilogy on sale some day... if they ever finish it. Though I dunno if it's good enough to read a second time. *ducks*

All three games certainly do have their merits, though if you ask me the first game is by far the best. For most people 1 read is probably enough, though if you fall in love with the sense of humor and the goofy characters you might feel like reading it again sometime. (Like me.) If you do, I would recommend picking up the 18+ versions, as they do have a decent amount of content that the all-ages ports don't have.

Don't worry though, luckily the all-ages versions of these games are ports made by Frontwing, the original creators of the games. This means that although you will be lacking certain content in the form of 18+ scenes, the all-ages port has new CGs in place of the old content and salvage most of the important canon dialogue that occurs in the H-scenes/ other 18+ rated scenes. (Non canon H etc is completely missing, though.) The third game in particular does have a LOT of canon H-content, so if you have the ability to I would say wait for the 18+ version of that one at least, but you shouldn't fear losing important plot related information or much character development etc if you do choose to get the all-ages version of that too. What exists of that in the 18+ scenes has been rewritten and mostly salvaged for the all-ages versions as well.

Anyway I'm waiting for raquen to come out to read everything altoghether, I'm honestly thinking about torrenting it as soon as it came out since I simply can't wait a year more than the average cheapstake steam dude to play the game. I contributed with 160 USD for phs trilogy and the phys spinoff.

Yeah honestly, more than the h-scenes, I was worried about missing out on the lewd humor. Good to know about the third.

Sorry I'm a steam cheapskate. -_-

Seriously though I can understand being bitter over delays on something you payed a premium to enjoy.  Well maybe not a premium if that's physical copies of all three. At any rate, If I had gotten into VNs before the original KS for this maybe I'd be in the same boat.

Bleh... ok now I'm irritated with Denpa. I had completely forgotten their new (as of a few months to a year ago) policy of restricting number of downloads. I just bought the 18+ of the first game since it was on sale and I've already ran into one part that refuses to download for some reason. Up to 10 days estimated last I checked. Well I'll download what I can and get a hold of them after the new year. Rather than track number of downloads why not track number of gigabytes and allocate 6 D/L worth of Gb? Then if someone has to cancel and retry because of spotty internet somewhere along the line it doesn't effect them as much and Denpa doesn't get as many calls? I mean I'd prefer no limit, but if we're being realistic I doubt they'll reconsider at this point...

The X number of downloads is merely a security measure of sorts. You can simply send them an email and they will add more downloads to your account right away. (Well, they might be on holiday right now, so their usually fast response time might be delayed a bit.)

My internet died 3 times as I tried to download a game once, leaving me with no game and no downloads :sacchan:  Just emailed them and they added more in a couple of hours.

Yeah, I know I can email them. My point was the bad timing and what I assumed was a cost cutting measure to reduce costs with their CDN or what not. How does it increase security exactly? If they wanted security use something other than the email for an account name, add 2nd factor auth, etc. They're worried about people sharing accounts? 2nd factor that binds to the IP would mitigate it somewhat. But in the end all of this is just an annoyance that doesn't solve the underlying issue. Bah... deja vu. I believe this was all discussed into the ground when it was announced.

At any rate I got all but one part now. I'll cross my fingers. If not I'll see how long it takes to get a response.

Sorry, just venting.

*edit* Looks like it's finally D/L at a reasonable pace. Unless I just jinxed myself ;) Still think it's not a great policy.

Yes, it's almost certainly a security precaution intended to prevent people from signing up with a throwaway email address, buying something, then posting the login info online.  No, it doesn't solve the underlying issue, the same way that murder being against the law doesn't solve the problem.  It doesn't matter that the problem can't be fully solved if there are partial solutions that get you most of the way there.

In other words, this is why we can't have nice things.

Oh, the snark and over exaggerated comparison to murder certainly brings me around to your point of view. Especially when my suggestion effectively prevents the supposed issue just as well as theirs while not being as inconvenient to customers who aren't trying to commit the equal to manslaughter.

I've already apologized, would you like me to bow while kissing the floor to your sweet denpa overlords?

Yeah, I can do snark too. Lol, that didn't solve anything either, eh?

Seriously just relax. I know I am. I got my games.

They were part of the kickstarter when I pledged, that's for sure. Paid 40 - 50 extra to have it added to my final pledge.

So, I'm guessing we won't see the 3rd installment until the end of 2017/early 2018? sigh~

Okay, now you're just splitting hairs.  It was incredibly obvious that part of the money was going towards the 18+ versions, from the very beginning.  Acting like it "wasn't part of the Kickstarter" is straight-up delusional and overly literal.

Nope. They were added to the backerskit after the end of the campaign, they were not even considered at first.

the campaign ended with the following reward chart:

b947b30f919867e975914d56ac71ce72_origina

No mention of any unrated edition.

Wow, it's almost like you can't technically say you're making porn on Kickstarter, and they didn't know how far they could push things, and FrontWing demanded that it be technically separate.

Seriously, this is an incredibly stupid argument.  If it was in included in Backerkit, it was part of the Kickstarter campaign.  I know you hate ero, but you're being ridiculous and pedantic for basically no reason.
