Well, A3 probably got the good sales the original would have deserved. A3... not really, although it has at least a lot of content even if it's just fan service.

Though I can't exactly say I'm convinced about Re: LieF either. A story about a bunch of loosers who suck so much in life that they have to go back to a sheltered school life is probably a new low. <_<

Sora no Tsukurikata and Schwarzesmarken probably deserved good sales the most so it's nice to see them on 3rd and 4th place, even if there's a huge gap between 2nd and 3rd place.

schwarsezmarken is not an eroge.

Just curious, if an eroge is defined by having H-scenes, then what makes that a title that has an adult and an all ages release? So the adult release would be an eroge, while the all ages release would be just a visual novel. And are the Sakura games that don't have an adult patch eroges because they are just about fan service, or visual novels because it's not explicit and the girls are just showing more nude skin than usual. Actually, I wouldn't know where to draw the line exactly.

As per my definition every Eroge is a Visual Novel.

For me the 'ero' in Eroge means explicit sexual content(gentials showing).

That's how I differentiate them from "All Ages" VNs.

The Source put a 〔非18禁〕 behind the game title for that reason.

And the title of the source post actually says 'Eroge Galge Sales Ranking' instead of just 'eroge sales'.

Actually, classic term of eroge does not only apply to visual novels with sexual content. In Japan an "eroge" is any game that features explicit sex scenes, it only got deluded a while ago, when people began to use it more frequently for 18+ vn's; in overall though, it's a term that applies also to a wide range of games - from card games to various SLG's (including the so called "rape" games etc). For example, Schoolmate is considered an eroge, although it is not a visual novel. Eroge is a portmanteau of "erotic game", no more, no less.

True on that.

If you look at the ranking in the source you will see that 9th place is actually some Custom Maid game, the DC3 and Sengoku Hime 7 Games are only on places 10 and 11.

In the western community Eroges that arent VNs are usually just called porn games :Kappa:

We also always use the Term VN instead of ADV, but the "all VNs are ADVs, yet not all ADVs are VNs" discussion is another matter.

If the sales show any sign of indication for future releases and their quality... I might better start to look for a new hobby.

Boobies and shiny stuff without substance as bestseller... Is this steam or something?

Bestsellers are always nukige in the west, too.

I know, but at least here they are sold as nukige, not fandisks, moege with lot of h scenes or something else. Until steam that is, now they even sell nukige without nuki to the minors

At least that's how it seems judging by MangaGamer choices of what gets a physical version and what doesn't, which is depending on sales.

This isn't the "end of the eroge market" or anything. Fandisks and nukige will always sell well, both in the West and in Japan. Of course, good visual novels will sell well, but fandisks and adaptations are safer to sell, and safer to buy.

Besides, the games at the top of these lists are going to be recent eroge, not kamige. When you manage to find an eroge released in the last two months that looks much better than these, be sure to post it, because I won't believe you otherwise.
