From what I understand the laws on mosaics are incredibly vague and deliberately hard to interpret the exact parameters of what is allowed and what isn't. At the risk of opening another can of worms, kinda like lolicon and child pornography laws.

Drawings are not considered as "child pornography" in Japan.

In that case, mosaics or not, if something gets categorized as "child pornography" (in the west) having mosaics will not help your case.

Well you just missed my point, what I was trying to get across was that mosaic laws don't say that pornography must have mosaics, but it must not have obscene objects (which are defined as "to promote a sense of shame or disgust in human beings"). I was just comparing how the laws are similar in that they don't directly outlaw the item in question, but highly indicate that laws do apply.

Did you scroll down?

It's all there.

Yes, I did, and it still doesn't make any sense to me, as I've said at least 3 times now.  If they can release a demosaiced copy of their own game, then how is that still true?  I'm kind of getting sick of giving the same response to the same reply.

I'm aware of that as well.  I don't know the specifics about their obscenity law, other than the basic interpretation of it (depiction of genitals = obscene, and is considered a violation of the obscenity law).  It's basically the same thing we have here in the US, just a more extreme interpretation of the word "obscene".  Miller v. California explicitly stated a way to determine if something is legally obscene via the Miller Test, and as far as I know, there's no similar precedent in Japan.

Those points only apply for Japan, what could be used as a defense in Japan (adding mosaics to mask genitals), won't have much of a weight in the West, so leaving mosaics in to avoid getting in trouble due to the "child pornography laws in the west" makes no sense.

FORGET THE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY THING. I wasn't directly connecting the two, only comparing the laws.

Well I mean, I'm not going to take time out of my day to actually research the specifics of the laws in Japan to satisfy your curiosity. If you care that much about the tiny details about this, I think you are a bit too invested. They said it's because of legal reasons, and it being linked to them being the publisher specifically, not the producers. That's plenty information to understand that this is something out of their hands.

Like I already said, Corona Blossom is a very unique example, as it was produced by them, and it was also produced at the same time in both English and Japanese, and they took very specific precautions when releasing the patch in order to not make it possible for Japanese readers to obtain the uncesnored version.

I wasn't really asking you to  >.<

Two of those reasons (Frontwing only being the publisher and the game not having a simultaneous release) make no sense without a more in-depth explanation, which was what I was trying to get.  Without context, they sound arbitrary and absurd.  I'm quite sure that they could replicate the "very specific precautions" they took with the patch if they wanted to and received permission to do so.  Restating the information I've already read when I request more information really doesn't do much of anything, which makes me quite confused as to why you keep doing it.

Just trying to help you out. I really don't understand what information you could possibly want that isn't already there.

If you really need extra information that much, I suggest tweeting or emailing them inquiring about it. (Though, seeing as one of their staff already posted here with basically the same answer you get on the 18+ patch info page, I wouldn't hold my breath for the specific reasons down to the letter. They already gave us plenty of information man. It's all there. I don't get how it isn't enough... )

I don't really care about the mosaics, I'm mainly interested in the fan disc which isn't translated yet, but as a stretch goal at 105.000$ it's not very likely to happen. Even the 80.000$ for the main title is already quite ambitious considering that their first Kickstarter didn't even reach 60.000$. To be honest I'd be more motivated to back if the goals would be lower. This way it feels just like a waste of time because the goal won't be reached anyway if they are that high. So why even bother to back?!

What a load of bullshit. From what I've seen it seems as if you guys are just putting in the minimum amount of effort.

From what I've seen, they've put in a huge amount of work into this Kickstarter assembling some pretty great looking tiers. That's on top of the fact that they're taking the effort to retranslate most or all of the game in order to make sure it's as high quality as possible. That's not what I would characterize as "the minimum amount of effort," and I'm not sure the lack of mosaics contribute much to that.

Honestly, I see no reason not to be really optimistic about this project, yet here you are shitting on them while providing no real explanation. And you call me jaded, lol. Maybe it would help if you explained why you think it's bullshit.

I don't feel like typing out my answer so read my reply on the reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/5cib1k/sharin_kickstarter_relaunch_preview_opened/d9woqdn/

The kickstarter has been canceled before the final rush, any partial result is meaningless.

There's no explanation here outside of "me no like, booo".
It's also insane how some people can diminish all of the company's efforts just because of the extremely complex matter with mosaics.

Here, here. As a direct answer to the mosaic explanation you can't view it the other way even though your reddit post is off-topic altogether.

Did you read what I highlighted?

Quote

but if it were something we could change we absolutely would have done so before relaunching the campaign.

That isn't necessarily aimed at mosaics.

But is heavily implied and I can guarantee that 99% would read it exactly the way I did.
Oh well, as for the digital copy, how would they even sell it without teaming up with MG or Nutaku (which is really hard and pointless when the project is not even funded), just create a whole new special distributive for backers? I simply doubt they saw much sense in that.

They sell the patch for Corona Blossom on dlsite and they'll probably sell the SnK patch on there too. They don't need to create a store themselves.

Ah, right, then your rant is not even that important, just a really small convinience matter, not even as big as mosaics. Quite curious how people would attack companies and call them the second coming of the early SP even because of things like that, I should correct my post about mosaics.
