The way I see it, it's actually possible for the original cast to be incorporated into this new installment once you consider their aspects throughout the series as a whole.

Makina can be a sniper, since both her good and bad ends have her joining Ichigaya and she learned some basic sniping from Yuuji.

Sachi can be an explosives expert, due to the circumstances of her route and the fact that she has some knowledge of explosives in general.

Michiru can be a pilot, if her controlling a mech suit in Rakuen is any indication.

Yumiko can be a spy or stealth expert, since she has attempted surprise attacks with her box cutter once. Plus, the box cutter is giving me an illusion to a certain French mercenary from Valve's flagship series.

Lastly, Amane can be the team leader and supervisor much like JB. And just to balance her out, she can also be a survival expert in the wilderness and be proficient in camouflage and ambush tactics because of her backstory experience.

Who sang the OP? Sounded really like  飛蘭 to me.

I can guarantee you this is not the case! :)

How so?

Well, the thing is that this game seems to branch off from Grisaia no Rakuen, (just read the summary,) not Kajitsu, so Makina's endings in that game shouldn't be relevant.

As far as the main cast coming back in this goes, I strongly doubt it will happen. It would be cool, but it would make little sense with the ending in Rakuen.

As much as I love Grisaia, this announcement make me fucking cringe. The world of Grisaia was heavily character based and making a spin-off with a completely new cast set in the Grisaia universe seems lazy and kinda pointless. I also find the basic premise really weird, CIRS becomes public knowledge (a organization that exists to carry out secret missions) and opens up various military schools around Japan? That is like if someone publicly outed the council of 300 and they decide to open up schools focusing on politics across Europe.

Please this game wouldn't even be released if it weren't for the English Steam market.

Now we know who to blame.

They better work on Island. The age of Grisaya in The West is gone.

The most funny thing is that the spinoff might come out faster then the last game from the original trilogy. Could be confusing for some readers.

Is Grisaia the new Sakura? Just slap the Grisaia name to something and ship it out?

They made it big with one series, so they gotta milk the hell out of it until it's dead, apparently.  I guess they think the brand recognition is good with average Steam users (lol) to justify an all-ages Steam-only release.  They're not wrong, as I'm sure some people will buy it because it has the word "Grisaia" on it, but I really think that people like Grisaia because of the characters.  Axing them for a new cast, with possible minor appearances from the OG cast, doesn't typically work out too well.  Anyone remember the 9th season of Scrubs?

I'll be staying the hell away from this until I see good reviews (aka good reviews that aren't from Steam) proving that it's not a low-effort attempt at further milking Steam users.  I love Kajitsu, but I'm not enough of a fanboy that I'll blindly buy it because it's a spin-off with part of the same name.  Admittedly, I am a pessimist, so you should take my doom and gloom with a grain of salt, but I don't like the feeling I'm getting from this.

Um, considering pretty much all of the sakura games on steam have positive reviews, I would recommend looking at reviews from elsewhere.

Isn't that what I said?  I know that pretty much any VN that has good art will get ~90% positive ratings on Steam.  I meant that I'd be ignoring every review on Steam because they apparently can't be trusted with discerning whether or not something is a steaming pile of garbage when it comes to VNs, hence the "off of Steam" bit.

I read it the same way soulless watcher did until I reread it. It can read like you're saying that you'll get your reviews from steam. Not away from steam like you actually said. Just another fun reason English is confusing as hell.

Oh, yeah, I see how it was interpreted that way now.  Herp derp.  Changed it so it'll be less confusing.

Well.... they got ME interested :wahaha:
All ages? Hell yeah, no more cringe cancerous awkward and unnecessary porn.
New characters? Hell yeah. Especially that they have much, much more interesting designs that main cast in Grisaia trilogy.

Only sad thing is that main writter is the same dude who buthered his own ideas in Kajitsu. But maybe he got much better at storytelling in Grisaia 2 & 3.

Funny thing is that first two volumes will definitely come at least in the same time as Grisaia 3, if not much earlier. Considering that this is going to be a sequel, then... I'm laughing. :P

Only because people are lazy with their language. Also 'off of' is usually considered quite bad English.

Rude  :vinty:

Never really heard that it's "bad English" before.  I mean, it's not an elegant way to state anything, but I wouldn't consider it akin to "ain't" or double negatives or something similar.  Admittedly, it was a really bad choice of words just from the unintended second meaning.  I don't tend to carefully proofread my forum posts with the same care I do for essays  :P

That's hilarious.  I've heard the exact opposite from people that have already read the sequels.

People in this thread are saying it isn't a sequel.

Your welcome :3

I realise people don't proofread forum posts, I don't either, but someone took an obfuscation brought about by *cough* YOUR poor word choice and held it up as a 'con' of the language. I don't agree with that. Totally not English's fault there was a misunderstanding :P

trust me, vn companies does everything to milk a series HARD if it succeeds, just look at minato soft and how majikoi is basically milked to the bone by now.

Maybe, but at least they was not milking until dry the franchise compared to age which depended on Muv Luv Alternative side stories (They not even attempted to made a VN outside Alternative setting so far) or even worse Type Moon who developed Fate too much so they other work get abandoned there (Tsukihime remake anyone). Granted, many VN company also do milking there because it's very profitable, but I think it's not as worse as age and Type Moon there imo.

As for the announcement, I admit it was quite letdown there although we got seiyuu like Sakura Ayane and Uchida Maya though (Also Kaori Nazuka as well). Granted from the looks of it, this could be at same length with Kajitsu if all of 3 volumes were released. But since this one following from what Rakuen left off, I think I'll just treat this as another Grisaia side story here, albeit a long one. And after read the spoiler, I think that Grisaia name was so unfitting there for this new series although it's understandable though if we talk about business for using recognizable brand here.

For last words here even if I didn't interested too much for now, I must admit that the artwork for the girls was good, even though Uchida Maya voiced character remind me of Yumiko from her appearance only though. Look forward to this if you Grisaia fan here.

See that is the thing though, you are interested because it is distancing itself away from the original trilogy, which is fine. The question than becomes what the hell is the point of stapling the Grisaia name to it? I would be all aboard the hype train if it was a new original title, I just can't find a legitimate reason (outside commercially) for the setting to be the same. Which leads me to believe the worse, that the creators are selling the name first and the actual vn not at all.

Keeping in mind people always complain, a significant portion would have complained if Frontwing's new title were not Grisaia related, since they like Grisaia and all. Additionally, another significant portion would have complained if it were Grisaia related, because they want original stuff and they're just milking the title.

So what happens when you try to appeal to both camps? Apparently, you piss them both off! Jolly!

I should point out that one of the side-effects of increasing the budget of these games while not increasing the userbase (and in fact in Japan it’s been decreasing) is an increase in the type of 'chasing of the mainstream' or 'pandering to large sections of the consumer base' people traditionally came to VNs to avoid. 'Brave stories' and 'not afraid to deal with issues' are things I hear boasted about regularly.

So this is a safe VN. And while I actually got no problems with safe VNs, I enjoy many of these games and stories, I’m pretty sure it’d tick off a certain section of this userbase xD They'd call it a moneygrab :P
