A marketing and distribution deal is a lot more substantial than just putting a game on their storefront.

Putting a game on their storefront that would qualify as "distribution" as for marketing, putting it on their storefront and having banners and such on websites that say "Hey, ChronoClock was just released on our website Nutaku, check it out!" It's part of the package.

Audi went into full Nutaku Protection Mode, which even caught me by surprise.  Also, this sounds like a deal negotiated specifically for this title, as he mentioned that other upcoming titles will still see releases on the Denpasoft store.  Nutaku may have negotiated for exclusive distribution rights.

Yeah, like I said, pretty sure that releasing 18+ versions exclusive to Denpasoft store isn't working out too well for them (low sales), so they are trying something new this time around with Nutaku to have a bigger coverage on this title and try to see how it does from there in terms of Nutaku sales.

That much is obvious. The Kickstarter says "And friends, there will also be a Denpasoft version of the game distributed exclusively by Nutaku!". So obvious they must have negotiated something, because otherwise the VN would also be released on Denpasoft. And those kind of exclusive distribution rights normally cost money, because SP has no advantage in not putting the game also on Denpasoft. I can only guess but maybe Nutaku wants some exclusive titles to promote their envisioned Steam for adult games. I could see that happen again in the future if they are serious about their platform, but I guess those kinds of deals are difficult to make with Mangagamer and JAST because their adult stores are more core to their businesses.

Generally the idea of making a kickstarter for the sake of financing physical merchandise is a good one. There are people looking for those physical editions and goods, and this is good way to provide them without financial risk for Sekai Project. Also it's good promotion for the VN.

Well no, there's at least two alternate explanations:

  1. Nutaku negotiated for exclusive distribution rights
  2. Denpasoft saw distribution on Nutaku-only as preferable to distribution on their own store + Nutaku

You assume that Denpasoft would always prefer that customers use their store, but maintaining a storefront has a cost.  Why do so many indie devs use Steam as their sole distribution outlet?  Surely not because Valve negotiated exclusive distribution deals.  No, they simply view Steam as the most efficient way to distribute their product.  They see no need to have their own store.

I currently favor 1), but 2) is by no means unreasonable, especially if Sekai Project had been considering phasing out their storefront.

That is my case, I don't bother with digital-only releases, even if a title interest me.

My rule:

'No Physical, No Buy'

There are quite a few titles in english that I can not play because I simply do not buy digital and they didn't release hardcopies of them, The House in Fata Morgana, Tokyo Babel, Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning, eden*, Cartagra, Nurse Love Addiction, Tomoyo After, Magical Eyes and maybe a few others such as Eyuu*Senki, but thankfuly that will be fixed by JAST USA when they release soonâ„¢ a physical copy version for PC in 2017 or 2018. Digital-only releases desecrates everything that is sacred and wholesome about VN!

As a matter of fact I don't mind paying 150+ USD for a physical copy, while I wouldn't pay 20 USD for a Steam copy!

As long as they maintain their Denpasoft store, the cost for offering an additional game in there is absolutely neglectable. For now they said that they want to keep their Denpasoft store.  And as long as their store is running every sale going through Denpasoft is better for them than a sale elsewhere. (The other stores naturally need to take a share for themselves.)

If they just want to see if Nutaku is more profitable for them they would just released the Chrono Clock on both platforms at the same time and be able to compare the numbers directly. I can't see any advantages in not putting Chrono Clock on Denpasoft while still paying for Denpasoft store, if they not receive some form of compensation in exchange.

I should also point out that Deardrops is sold on Nutaku, and MG hasn't given up their storefront.

Yes, but the way it's worded, it doesn't sound like SP will be selling the 18+ version on Denpasoft.  I'd be just as irritated with MangaGamer if they forced people to use Nutaku if they wanted to buy an 18+ version of Deardrops, but they don't.  You can still buy it off of their site.

lmao, literally the 4kids of porn games.

Also, from the source itself. They dont get to censor it, they're teaming up with them for publishing and PR only

I already knew that, though.  They'd have to have gone insane to let Nutaku translate for them.  The issue I have is that the 18+ version seems like it'll only be available on Nutaku.

That will skew the data. To compare it properly, they would need to face-off the sales of a 18+ Nutaku exclusive compared to the sales of a 18+ Denpasoft exclusive.

I just think they are using Nutaku as a distribution platform for the 18+ version, at this point Nutaku is the closest thing to a Steam-like platform for 18+ products and as such because of this it would bring in alot more sales than just releasing it on Denpasoft...

That is essentially the end goal of Nutaku, I heard they recently picked up Kimochi (a failed steamlike adult gaming distribution platform.) and it seems like they are actively pursuing other vn projects outside of their standard browsing games.

Anyways, I'm not touching anything related with Sekai Project with a ten foot pole, until the game is released and I have conformation from at least 3 different people that it is translated decently and there is a +18 version (when applicable). The kickstarter for WEE and WAS were just insane.

Well, MG did have its own AA storefront before they say "fuck it" and took it down, left to their original storefront.

Are you NieRReplicant on Reddit?  Your views are remarkably similar.

Here I thought you are frequent Reddit user. It's not that hard to know they are both the same, what with the use of "True VN FanTM" :makina:

TL;DR SP is rather toasted that Denpasoft is not making enough money(Gee, I wonder why?) so they set up a deal with Nutaku to do their PR.

Apparently Audi did very splendid job at convincing in Reddit:makina: "Giving the TLC it deserves."

I still don't see if this will result in Chrono Clock being uncensored. Citation needed. If what I read is true then CC is still mosaiced.

What do you mean by "uncensored"? If you are refering to mosaiced or non-mosaiced, then the answer is that the denpa version is going to be mosaiced.

Obviously I refer to the whole deal with Nutaku will somehow make CC being distributed mosaic-free as some people in Reddit seems to think so. While it safe to assume so, people are just being deluded into thinking so.

People just don't learn that SP will never un-mosaic anything.

I'm not.  I only post there occasionally when a topic interests me.

That's the first thread I've seen where a non-Dovac company spokesperson was downvoted into the negatives multiple times on /r/vns.  That a thread filled with company replies has been pushed down to the bottom of the comments (and his responses to questions hidden) is striking, highly unusual, and potentially significant.  Anti-SP fervor seems to be on the rise.

Am I the only one who's not really fond of them teaming up with Nutaku?

I don't see what's the problem though? I admit, all I know about Nutaku is their past censorships, questionable localization(maybe) and their browsing games. Oh, and them wanting to be like Steam. Is there anything else I should be looking out from Nutaku?

Not surprisingly, considering more and more people are beginning to feel salty when they realized SP still haven't fulfill their KS promises entirely. I heard it is more about WEE KS from one Reddit user that is a backer. Audi's presence in CC thread in r/visualnovels doesn't help either with him dodging the questions with "You know how hard we are working to make it work?" and "Please apply into our workforce to show it how it's done" answers.

Audi is maybe the new Dovac :makina:

Sekai Project already confirmed that it will be mosaiced.

Man, I want the physical edition, but it's so expensive! :kosame:

The current Kickstarter already reached almost twice it's goal, which isn't too hard with just a mere 20.000$. It's literally screaming 'preorder platform'.

And Nutaku is Sekai's answer to the low sales of their own Denpasoft page?! Probably a good deal for both sides since Chrono Clock isn't exactly a run of the mill title.

Retracted.  Upon reflection I acknowledge Audi's replies are actually pretty amusing.

Works for me, works for them and all the people that have backed the project and will back the project during the remaing 29 days.

That still remains to be seen, but they are probably hoping so.
