Along the Edge is a visual novel set in the European countryside, where your choices impact the main character's personality and appearance.

Story:

Daphné is at a dead-end. She's unsatisfied by her personal and professional life. So, when she inherits an old family house in a remote part of the country, she jumps at the opportunity to start anew.

Does she decide to embrace her legacy or does she hang on to her old way of life?

Although, I must say I am slightly disappointed that this isn't the epic story of a young nihilistic teenager dealing with teenager problems and trying to control his inner edgelord

/me scribbles in his notebook labeled "future endeavours".

Hmmm... Hasn't someone written something along these lines already?

Just finished my first playthrough... and the game left me speechless in amazement. It's a completely engrossing and truly captivating tale, full of mystery and magic. What I really liked tho, was how well-woven the story was, despite it's shortness and how much of an actual impact the player had over it's course, through the choices it presented. In the first time for ages... I felt I was truly having some sort of a relationship with the protagonist of the story; Daphne's choices were mine, and so did she became some sort of an reflection, I could look into. It was a really pleasant experience, that left me with a lot to ponder about and a nice change of the usual, I'm so used to from the japanese vn's.

I really loved the overall execution; the game was gorgeous in it's simplicity, both in terms of art and music. I felt the soundtrack was a great match and built the game's atmosphere intricately, whilst the crude, artistic graphics added a nice tone to the overall sense of mystery within; It reminded me a lot of Narcisuu, which did exactly the same in terms of presentation. That said, the overall idea with the symbols above the main window, that acted as a sort of a subtle guide towards the story, is splendid. I didn't felt spoiled, and at the same time there was this feeling of satisfaction, where the choices I made turned out to be exactly the choices I'd really made myself, instead of choices I was "supposed" to make to achieve the kind of ending I would prefer the most.

I can tell you this without any word of doubt, and those are the words of a veteran - this is the future of western vn's. This is the sort of thing I want to see more often. Please continue. It doesn't matter what artstyle or execution you'll chose - be it japanese anime-styled or western franco-belgian school of art; what truly matters is the story... and this one deserves praise. This game shouldn't go unnoticed, otherwise people won't even know what are they missing out.

I hope to see more from you. Good luck.
