What if everything you see is more than what you see — the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it is really a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things.”

Some of my favorite:

The Culture - Iain M. Banks:

  • "You might call them soft, because they’re very reluctant to kill, and they might agree with you, but they’re soft the way the ocean is soft, and, well; ask any sea captain how harmless and puny the ocean can be." - Use of Weapons.
  • "Never forget I am not this silver body, Mahrai. I am not an animal brain, I am not even some attempt to produce an Al through software running on a computer. I am a Culture Mind. We are close to gods, and on the far side. We are quicker; we live faster and more completely than you do, with so many more senses, such a greater store of memories and at such a fine level of detail." - Look to Windward.
Marvel comics: "If there is nothing but what we make in this world, brothers...let us make good." - Beta Ray Bill
Worm: Parahuman - Wildbow:
  • "I have no idea how the fuck I'm going to do it," my voice was a low snarl, barely recognizable as my own beneath my anger and the noises of the swarm. "But I'm going to make you regret that."
  • “Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable. Wasn’t that how she put it? I told them. Warned them.”

"I don't know why anyone would take the life of another, but to save a life, a logical mind isn't needed, no?"
- Kudo Shinichi, Detective Conan

I've always fondly remembered that quote for some reason, despite being a cynic. The purity of that quote made by a logical mind just seems interesting (considering that idealism can often be illogical, which contradicts a detective's line of work). Plus, it's kinda inspiring.

" — My name would be something like Grey Area in your language. What gives me the right to crawl inside your brains, as you put it, is the same thing that gave you the right to do what you did to those you murdered; power. Superior power. Vastly superior power, in my case. " - General Contact Unit Grey Area, Excession.

"gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8"

-Albert Einstein

On a more serious note, Houzuki Masaomi from Sharin no Kuni had some really great quotes IMO:

"You people are always like that. As soon as you uncover a comprehensible source of evil, you dive upon it. You yearn continually to find something to push responsibility onto. 'The country,' 'I'm not qualified for that,' 'I don't have permission,' 'my parents,' 'because my best friend said so'... You are always so eager to find comfort in something and cease your thought processes. And then, as soon as your expectations are betrayed, you squeal like pigs."

"Those who have assumed a position of leadership, such as myself, often speak as if they know others' thoughts in advance. This is not actually the case, however. You see, we do not predict the thoughts of others. We designate them."

"Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain."
-Friedrich Schiller

Schiller was apparently a German playwright, and the above words are, I recall, not an exact translation. However, this translation is how the quote was used in Isaac Asimov's The Gods Themselves- the novel I came across the quote in (and the quote is, in fact, the namesake of the novel). I just find the quote rather apt and enjoy using it in daily contexts

In terms of a deep quote, the closest thing is probably "Tu fui, ego eris." from Virtue's Last Reward: "What you are, I was; what I am, you will be."- Apt for the graveyard stone it appears upon, and if I am to have a grave when I die, what I would like to see inscribed upon my gravestone.

"The ships hung in the sky in very much the same way bricks don't."
-Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Besides being the most hilarious sentence I have ever laid eyes upon in a book, it was also the sentence that finally drew my attention, as a lifelong reader, to not just WHAT you write, but also HOW you write it- indeed, I should credit the whole Hitchhiker 'trilogy' for teaching me the importance of prose, but this particular sentence is the very first moment the book's prose really caught my eye. The absurd but sensible connections Adams utilizes in the Hitchhiker series has influenced the way I talk and write- the way I express myself. It has revealed to me a whole new layer of literature, and how it can touch a person's heart. And this quote encapsulates all of these things for me.

"When you close your eyes, I disappear."
-Sora Akanegasaki (character), Ever17

Sora is pretty  much  my favorite fictional character for reasons I won't delve into here, but her personality and route's sadness, troubles and "fleetingness" is encapsulated in this quote for  me.

"These days, most problems, even seemingly really tricky ones, could be handled by simulations which happily modelled slippery concepts like public opinion or the likely reactions of alien societies by the appropriate use of some especially cunning and devious algorithms, nothing more processor-hungry than the right set of equations need be applied.

But not always. Sometimes, if you were going to have any hope of getting useful answers, there really was no alternative to modelling the individuals themselves, at the sort of scale and level of complexity that mean they each had to exhibit some kind of discrete personality, and that was where the Problem kicked in.

Once you had created your population of realistically reacting and - in a necessary sense - cogitating individuals, you had - also in a sense - created life. The particular parts of whatever computational substrate you had devoted to the problem now held beings; virtual beings capable of reacting so much like the back-in-reality beings they were modelling - because how else were they to do so convincingly without also hoping, suffering, rejoicing, caring, living and dreaming?

By this reasoning, then, you could not just turn off your virtual environment and the living, thinking creatures it contained at the completion of a run or when a simulation had reached the end of its useful life; that amounted to genocide.

So, ironically, you could not effectively model the outcome of a moral problem - or at least certain important classes of moral problems - with any hope of getting a useful or reliable answer, without encountering a moral issue in the simulation itself."

“There was something comforting about having a vast hydrogen furnace burning millions of tons of material a second at the centre of a solar system. It was cheery.”
“I’m a fucking razor-arsed starship, you maniac! I’m not male, female or anything else except stupendously smart and right now tuned to smite. I don’t give a fuck about flattering you. The few and frankly not vitally important sentiments I have concerning you I can switch off like flicking a switch.”

well, welll. I  want to share some of mine favorites quotes of fiction...

Quote

I read a theory once that the human intellect was like peacock feathers. Just an extravagant display intended to attract a mate. All of art, literature, a bit of Mozart, William Shakespeare, Michelangelo, and the Empire State Building. Just an elaborate mating ritual. Maybe it doesn’t matter that we have accomplished so much for the basest of reasons. But, of course, the peacock can barely fly. It lives in the dirt, pecking insects out of the muck, consoling itself with its great beauty.

Ford - Westworld

Humans have a desire for truth. Or they have a desire to believe that what they know is the truth. In other words, the actual truth comes second to that desire. Be mindful of what is truth and what is a lie.

I like money. I'll tell you why. It's because money can take the place of everything. You can buy things. You can buy lives. You can buy people. You can buy hearts. You can buy happiness. You can buy dreams. It's very precious, but on top of that, it's not something that is irreplaceable. That's why I like it. Conversely, I hate irreplaceable things. 'I can't live without this.' Or 'that is the reason why I'm alive.' Or 'that is the purpose of which I was born.' Putting scarcity value on things like that piss me off to no end.

both from Kaiki Deishu - Monogatari SS

this scene from game of thrones (I just copy and paste from wikquote by the way, because I'm lazy)

Spoiler
Tyrion: [after Shae testifies against him] Father... I wish to confess. I wish to confess.
Tywin: You wish to confess?
Tyrion: [to the audience of the trial] I saved you. I saved this city [angrily] and all your worthless lives! I should have let Stannis kill you all!
[the crowd groans with disgust]
Tywin: Tyrion! [Tyrion looks at him] Do you wish to confess?
Tyrion: Yes... Father. I'm guilty. Guilty! Is that what you want to hear?!
Tywin: You admit you've poisoned the King?
Tyrion: No. Of that, I'm innocent. I'm guilty of a far more monstrous crime! I'm guilty of being a dwarf!
Tywin: [scoffs] You are not on trial for being a dwarf.
Tyrion: [angrily] Oh, yes I am! I've been on trial for that my entire life!
Tywin: [impatiently] Have you nothing to say on your defense?
Tyrion: Nothing but this: [with a grin; to Jaime] I did not do it. [with great fury; to Cersei] I did not kill Joffrey, but I WISH THAT I HAD! Watching your vicious bastard die give me more relief than a thousand lying whores! [Tyrion gives Shae a venomous look, then turns to the crowd] I wish I was the monster you think I am! I wish I had enough poison for the whole pack of you! I would gladly give my life to WATCH YOU ALL SWALLOW IT!
[The entire crowd roars with outrage]
Tywin: [angrily stands] Ser Meryn! Ser Meryn, escort the prisoner back to his cell!
Tyrion: [stares irately at his father] I will NOT give my life for Joffrey's murder, and I know I'll get no justice here, so I will let the gods decide my fate! I demand a trial by combat.
[The crowd, once again, roars with outrage, as Margaery, Shae, Jaime and Cersei stare at Tyrion with disbelief; Oberyn leans forward, looking intrigued. Tyrion smiles bitterly at his father, who glares furiously back at him]

and like this is a forum about visual novels, I leave this, from one of my favorite characters of the medium, spoilers from fate/stay night ahead...

Spoiler

I envy you people. What I sought, but could not obtain. What I obtained, but could not obtain. Many things slipped out between my fingers, no matter what commandment I used. What other people called happiness... Did not bring me any joy.

“Oh, adjust yourself. You people have spent ten millennia playing at soldiers while becoming ever more dedicated civilians. We've spent the last thousand years trying hard to stay civilian while refining the legacy of a won galactic war.”

-Ue Mistake Not..., Iain M. Banks - The Hydrogen Sonata.

~My full name is the

Spoiler

Mistake Not My Current State Of Joshing Gentle Peevishness For The Awesome And Terrible Majesty Of The Towering Seas Of Ire That Are Themselves The Mere Milquetoast Shallows Fringing My Vast Oceans Of Wrath. Cool, eh?

From Look to Windward:

Quote

“Ziller, I am a Hub Mind. I have an entire— and if I may say so—quite fabulous Orbital to look after, not to mention having fifty billion people to tend to.”

“Certainly I wasn’t going to mention them.”

“Right now I’m observing a fading supernova in a galaxy two and a half billion years away. Closer to home, a thousand years off, I’m watching a dying planet orbiting inside the atmosphere of a red giant sun as it spirals slowly down toward the core. I can also watch the results of the planet’s destruction on the sun, a thousand years later, via hyperspace.

“In-system, I’m tracking millions of comets and asteroids, and directing the orbits of tens of thousands of them, some to use as raw material for Plate landscaping , some just to keep them out of the way. Next year I’m going to let a big comet come right through the Orbital, between the Rim and the Hub. That should be pretty spectacular. Several hundred thousand smaller bodies are speeding toward us right now, earmarked to provide an over-the -top light show for the first night of your new orchestral work at the end of the Twin Novae period.”

“It was that—”.

“At the same time, of course, I’m in simultaneous communication with hundreds of other Minds; thousands, over the course of any given day; ship Minds of every type, some
approaching, some just having left, some old friends, some sharing interests and fascinations similar to my own, plus other Orbitals and university Sages, amongst others. I have eleven Roving Personality Constructs, each one flitting over time from place to place in the greater galaxy, rooming with other Minds in the processor substrates of GSVs and smaller vessels, other Orbitals, Eccentric and Ulterior craft and with Minds of various other types; what they will be like , and how these once identical siblings might change me when they return and we consider remerging, I can only imagine and look forward to.”

“It all sounds—”.

“While I am at the moment hosting no other Minds, I look forward to that, as well.

“— fascinating. Now—”.

“Additionally, sub-systems like manufactory process-overseeing complexes keep up a constant and fascinating dialogue. Within the hour, for example, in a shipyard in a cavern under the Buzuhn Bulkhead Range, a new Mind will be born, to be emplaced within a GCV before the year is out.”

“No no; keep going.”

“Meanwhile, via one of my planetary remotes I’m watching a pair of cyclonic systems collide on Naratradjan Prime and composing a glyph sequence on the effects of ultra-violent atmospheric phenomena on otherwise habitable ecospheres. Here on Masaq’ I’m watching a series of avalanches in the Pilthunguon Mountains on Hildri, a tornado whirling across the Shaban Savannah on Akroum, a sworl-island calving in the Picha Sea, a forest fire in Molben, a seiche bore funnelling up Gradeens River, a firework display above Junzra City, a wooden house frame being hoisted into place in a village in Furl, a quartet of lovers on a hilltop in—”.

“You’ve made your—”.

“— Ocutti. Then there are drones and other autonomous sentients, able to communicate directly and at speed, plus the implanted humans and other biologicals also able to converse immediately. Plus of course I have millions of avatars like this one, the majority of them talking with and listening to people right now.”

' ... Have you finished?'
'Yes. But even if all the other stuff seems a bit esoteric, just think of all those other avatars at all those other gatherings, concerts, dances, ceremonies, parties and meals; think of all that talk, all those ideas, all that sparkle and wit!'

Because I'm reading Swan Song now...

"They are. But in Special Circumstances we deal in the moral equivalent of black holes, where the normal laws — the rules of right and wrong that people imagine apply everywhere else in the universe — break down; beyond those metaphysical event-horizons, there exist... special circumstances. That's us. That's our territory; our domain. "

- Rasd-Coduresa Diziet Embless Sma da' Marenhide, Use of Weapons.

“Everything I’ve said in the past stands. Humans are idiots. They’re selfish and unjust and unfair, they’re violent and clumsy and petty and shortsighted. Don’t get me wrong. Every part of that applies to me, too. I’m not setting myself above them on any level.”

“But at the end of the day, sometimes humanity isn’t so bad.”

"Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future"

-Sonmi-451, David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

My all time favorite quote from a movie. I have read the book and re-watched the movie 3 times. Good stuff.
