This message is brought to you by CeruleanGamer and all the freedom fighters of Fuwanovel. Please exercise freedom responsibly.

Few people do, which is why people can't have absolute freedom. I'm for more control, because people act retarded when given free reign and have no inhibitions. Like when they're drunk, for example.

Before I get into religion, I should probably say that like swearing, the prohibition of sex in 'cultured society' was probably partly due to the Georgian era, where they overcorrected public morals due to the debauchery of the Restoration period. The Restoration period was still quite religious, and sex was everywhere in that period, so I deduce that while religion may influence the freedom of sex and stuff, it may have a smaller role than you think. Read my posts in this thread here -

Okay, religion. Religion isn't the devil, a way to brainwash the masses, or a way to control behaviour. It can be used for those things, but similarly I can also use my fork to pluck out someone's eyeball out, though the tool obviously wasn't meant for that purpose.

Is religion nasty? Not by itself, possibly a little outdated but a lack of flexibility is the problem there. Religion needs to become more flexible to remain relevant. Do religious people cause wars? Everything causes wars. Recall how Communist States have to be atheist and the atrocities they committed in the name of atheism. The problem here isn't religion, but once again differences. Apparently people don't like how others are different. Is religion about Gods? Nope. You can have religion without Gods. You can have Gods without religion. Because these two are often paired together doesn't mean they're inseparable. Let's take Buddhism - Buddhism can be a very peaceful religion with an emphasis on insight meditation. Insight meditation would benefit ... oh let's just say the majority of people in this thread and leave it at that, very useful with great real world applications. It doesn't have a God, though.

So, what is Religion? Religion is a spiritual belief system, no more and no less. Every person has their own overall belief system, their own viewpoint to make sense of the world, religion contributes to the spiritual aspect of that belief system. As parents, these people will attempt to teach you how to be a good enough human to contribute to, and live in society when you're an adult (because you were and are almost certainly a misbehaving little shit as a child.) They will seek to enforce their belief systems on you often not because they're 'being mean' but because that is how they cope. Obviously zealots or abusive households do not apply here, but take away religion and you will still have zealots and abusive households so ...

If you're a teenager and living in a religious household, and you don't want to live in a religious household, and this household is not abusive or otherwise threatening, be aware that your parents are forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars to raise you from a grubby little blob, into an adult, and one of the things which you'll have to do in return is accept that it's their house and their rules. Also realise that you'll spend the majority of your years away from home anyway, whining about what you can and can't do for those few years as an adolescent is part of the reason why you're all still locked up at your parents and at school. Because at this stage in your development, we all don't want to have to put up with your shit. Society shouldn't free kids at all, keep them at their parents and school until they're 25 for all I care ... Ahahaha did I say that out loud? How do I tell people I have no inner monologue …

Misanthropy isn't a cool thing. If you disagree, just go turn yourself into a Black Metal kid.

I have never met someone on the internet or in real life that has overestimated the amount of self esteem I have to this extent. I assure I don't consider myself "cool" in any definition of the word and I would have to seriously question the sanity of anyone who would admire any qualities that I posses.

Misanthropy is a dislike of mankind, or humans in general. And actually some people link it with low self-esteem (but that's only a suggestion.) Like, for example, this quote from a book:

individuals who think poorly of themselves tend to think poorly of others. They lack confidence in the honesty and amiability of others ...

And etc etc. So I don't see how you can link misanthropy with high self-esteem in any sort of conclusive fashion :P

I think he was assuming that I was putting up a "chunybo/emo" facade to gain attention. Like, "Oh look at me I'ma sooo dark and gritty and just like Batman!" type of thing.

Great interpretation except for the fact that the Crusades happened and there was bloodshed everywhere to the point it was described that the "blood reached above the horse's knees".

There's your religion for you. Excess of everything is bad, but I'd rather have chaos caused by freedom, than slavery under religion. Religion is a nasty chain of commitment and devotion to the point that many people lose their minds whenever they see people eat meat during Fridays/lent or condemn others for being gay or lesbian. Too many man-made rules binding other's freedom and beliefs and give people the illusion that the so called "salvation" can be achieved through sacrifice. See those guys setting themselves on fire, fasting themselves to death or committing seppuku in the name of religion? Where are those guys now? They are dead... wasting the precious "life" given to them by their so called Gods.

You have to realize the inherent hypocrisy of your words, I mean it is a thing of glory. You condemn others for following a lifestyle that they decided for themselves, yes perhaps their environment may have molded their minds in a certain way growing up, but the person they became as a result made their own choices. Yet you condemn them for following their beliefs because you believe that your morals are "right" and they are "wrong". You value individualism as long as it follows your own moral guidelines, meaning that you are exactly like the religious institutions you despise.

I wonder how much longer till this thread gets locked down :amane:

Choices which could have been prevented or done in a more logical approach without the strong grip of religion/fanaticism. :komari:

I don't condemn people for believing in whatever they believe is right or wrong, but I despise suicide and hurting of oneself or others in the name of religion. :saber:

My words were very clear, and didn't involve your person in any way, since I don't know shit about you. It's strange that you took them personally.

I was talking about misanthropy, and gave out an example (Black Metal retards, where being "evil" is applauded).

And indeed it isn't a cool thing, as you yourself agree ("I doubt the sanity of someone who admires my qualities" or something). Just don't expect to be taken too seriously. Like I guess no depression patient runs a successful enterprise.

A person saying people = shit shouldn't be taken too seriously. Besides it's almost always just angst.

As Barney says - "when I'm sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead."

So hurting oneself or others is fine as long as religion isn't involved? That's fine if you believe that, but I find it strange that only when religion comes into the picture is when these actions become something to despise.

Ok, I suppose I'm just confused. I assume that you were referring to my post that was right above yours and I have no idea who the "Black Metal Kid" is. I googled searched him and only got a bunch of results of 12 year old metal band singers.

Well I concur that I will never amount to much, but there are plenty of famous artists and government officials in history that suffered from various forms of depression.

Ok, since we have derailed this thread completely. I suggest that if we must talk about religion or how worthless my opinions are, we do so elsewhere on another thread or through personal messaging.

Hello there ^_^. So it looks like VNs that include boobs, sex or even just yuri tend to sell way better than those without. A lot of gamers outside the community hate visual novels, though. "Ugh, another bewbs game", "Stahp" and whatever else.

I remember a few years ago, Mass Effect 1 ran into a bit of controversy with their sex scenes. Compared to VNs, they were as tame as could be, but still, I think gamers in general defended Mass Effect. Gamers want the public to know we are mature enough to handle these topics. The Mass Effect issue even went on Fox News:

I doubt many gamers would have sided with the psychology specialist in that segment. How come sex in a western title is viewed so differently from visual novels? Is it because some VNs have kinky sex? Or is it the fact that a lot of anime girls look underaged? Many of the answers will seem obvious, but I am still fine with hearing about them and maybe start a discussion from here.

Sorry to finish with a downer, but let's keep the chat on topic. I have been seeing posts where people are using threads to promote their game/story/art/music etc. Mentioning projects in passing is okay, but it is beyond obvious when the intention is to plug. People can post what they like, but in some forum, that type of behavior would result in warnings, and I want to bring it up ahead of time.

Thanks ^_^!

Visual novels are pornographic in nature, whereas video games are not. The tools in that video were treating ME as the former. Western visual novels have just as much lewd and erotic content as eastern ones, and the reason why VNs with adult content outsell those without is that the vast majority of the medium's demographic read VNs solely to get off. This is the case in all cultures.

What the mainstream media thinks of "lewd" content is irrelevant to this medium as it doesn't affect anything other than censored releases on mainstream platforms, which is sensible to say the least.
