Although I'm a hardcore yuri fan, so the yuriness alone could have carried it for me. It probably isn't for everyone, but if you like over-exagerating the norm to the power of infinte or if you are a yuri fan you will porbably have fun with it. You don't need to understand anything about mahjong to enjoy it really, but if you don't like competitive sports anime, then it might not be the best for you. I came to watch it without any prior knowledge about mahjong, and I still love it. The anime creates a great competitive atmosphere that even if you don't know anything about mahjong, you can still thoroughly enjoy it. Zalor Posted October 8, 2015 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Oh man.. way back in the early days of fuwa (2013), I remember getting in an argument with somebody about Saki versus Akagi. In retrospect it was a dumb thing to argue about. But personally, I really dislike Saki. Both Akagi and Legendary Gambler Tetsuya are good anime that deal with mahjong in a serious light, but I could never get into Saki. I agree with the people saying you don't need to understand the intricacies of the tactics to enjoy it if the characters and subject matter are to your liking. Though I wouldn't say it's actually yuri as there's technically no romance, but it's so heavily implied and suggested, it really might as well be. But yeah, I agree with the general consensus about it being interesting even without any knowledge of majong. ilegend Posted October 8, 2015 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Saki was the reason I started learning and playing Japanese Mahjong, and being a lover of all things yuri, coupled with the sfx when they make their tile calls or draw their tiles made it one of my favorite mahjong animes.
