onomatope*'s lastest title - Kyuuketsuki no Libra - is coming to Steam

Pledging is no issue for me (especially seeing a good price for physical+art book combo) but before pledging I would really like to know what kind of VN it is? Is it dark-heavy or lighthearted? How are the characters and how MC behaves? For example, I see the company making more of a nukige type of VN and with that line on their page saying ''MC getting an urge to suck blood'' it can lead to rapey like situations. Although, since it's on steam those things won't be there so I'm guessing it's not the main focus and you can enjoy story? A small English demo would really help in making me decide how much to pledge...

It will be a mixed between lighthearted and heavy (not to the point I would say "dark"): A kind-of-plot-focused but still have the onomatope-ish's element: comedy/harem and stuff.

At least that's impression I got from the trial version.

I have to say I've been impressed with the feedback and it's the main reason I'll check this out. If an 18+ version is indeed guaranteed then I could easily see myself donating 40-50 for a digital or physical edition on pure good will alone. They've bothered to have a discussion with the community interested in it and 170,000 is not a whole lot if the 'translation' cost section is including the japanese voice acting costs. Honestly I said after muv-luv I was not going to do another kickstarter and oddly I'm not fond of vampires but I will at this time probably back this.

I think another thing to take in account though is timing...I'm not sure how popular kickstarters are around the holidays.

Thanks for the info. Design wise, the red-haired girl and that priestess/nun looking girl are the ones that are to my liking. Maybe others will grow on me depending on the personality. This VN gives me a Princess Waltz kind of vibe. Except for fusing, the main guy sucks some blood in order to gain/give more power, maybe? As far as I can tell there is some decent action, fighting wise. Also reminds me somewhat of 11 Eyes, don't know why. Wish that was translated though...

Also for H-scenes...

And as I thought, blood sucking is used for sexual acts. Seems like the girls piss themselves or cum as he bites their neck. Have to find reason for H-scenes eh? And MC deflowers half of the cast before you're given any choice... Have to have a taste of everyone until you decide to whom you'll stick...

I will clarify this about the DRM stuff which i saw someone asking on the profundia page.

If it is drm-free then you can copy the content that you have on your steam folder and paste it for example in your pendrive burn it into a dvd and the game will run without any issue or the need to run steam or any other thing just like narcissu does or any of the GOG games.
Steam is just a client to download games it it not however a drm system on itself, it can be used as a DRM system if the developer wants to or some kind of restrictions.

Steam lets you play games off-line if it is your account (the family thing doesnt work anymore offline like it did on the past) but that doesn't mean it is drm-free, you can have a game with some copy protection, lets say TAGES or securom and you will be still be able to play them offline, you can have a game that ask you to enter a serial code one time (with online activation or offline) that's it drm too and you still will be able to play them off-line, this is if you lunch the game through the steam client.
The only games that you wont be able to do this are games that requires your internet connection to be online all the time, I can't come up with any example now on steam, diablo 3 used this method on pc I'm not sure if still does... and I'm less sure if there is any game that uses this DRM system on steam, games that uses this type of protection are so criticized that developers sooner or later take them off (assasin's creed  for example) because in the end it only hurts the real customers and not the pirates so the companies drop the system, they still try to use it because lets be honest most of the publishers who works in the gaming industry don't know a shit about gaming they just know about business and want to make money even if it hurts them in the end, I'm looking at you EA.

In case someone may ask about it, btw. to prevent unfounded guesswork, here´s some additional information regarding the way the team involved calculated with the (possible) fundings, or to be more precise why they estimated a need of 85k for covering translation-costs only:

Priorities: A great translation, a lean mean Kickstarter budget, happily paid translators.

1,103,616 characters
Reading fee (translators read the entire script before starting) = ¥125,000
1st pass, teams of 2: 4yen p/ch = ¥4,414,464 + 2yen p/ch = ¥2,207,232
2nd pass: 1.5yen p/ch = ¥1,655,424
3rd (final) pass + translation management: 2yen p/ch = ¥2,207,232
Total = ¥10,609,352
+ Japan tax (10%)

Grand Total= ¥11,670,287 ($93,362 @125yen, including yen conversion fee)

Never said their budget is unjustified, but whether they can actually attract the sort of funding they're asking for is another matter.  What they may discover is that the English eroge market is still very niche and immature.  Companies like JAST and MangaGamer are basically farming in the desert, in the hopes that maybe one day something nice will grow.  Sekai Project has licensed a few high profile titles that managed to draw sufficient interest, but that sort of momentum is unsustainable.  They'll run out of low-hanging fruit to pick before long.  The English eroge market is a desert that simply can't sustain prolonged harvesting.  MiKandi has to temper their expectations or their seeds will never bear fruit.

never talked about you either in the post above, but you know how people are, or tend to be, when non given enough information btw only the sum of 85k is left to their raw imagination.

edit: quite fond of the poetical wording of yours.

From the looks of this whole thing, it should easily be a "better love story than Twilight" so that should count for something yeah? :holo:

I already blogged my opinions of the Japanese version, for those who are interested... http://forums.fuwanovel.net/blogs/entry/922-kyuuketsu-hime-no-libra/

Generally speaking, it is a VN that manages to be better than I would have thought, considering the company it comes from... enough so that I can honestly recommend it, though it is by no means a kamige.

Edit: I'll be clear, it is pretty rare these days for me to actually come out and say 'I recommend it' with a VN after playing it all the way through.  I'm a lot more likely to slice into it mercilessly if it fails in any major way.  Most of the VNs I have played released in the last three to four months or so have been... lackluster.  While that isn't saying much, this VN does leave most of them in the dust, which is a recommendation.  This VN is a good one, it is worth playing, and it will be worth buying when it comes out localized, for those interested in its genres.  It isn't a huge 'genre-crosser' in terms of appeal, but it does appeal to those who want less nerfed vampires in their VNs (vampires that are dark, violent, etc).

Great work, Clephas! Nice to meet you, by the way :D

I'm glad you found the VN enjoyable. And certainly your recommendation is huge endorsement, too <3. Thanks again for taking the time to give your honest opinion of the work!

Best

In nature, it is similar to Draculius.  Of course, it - ironically enough - doesn't do the harem/family thing that was so much a part of the true route of Draculius (considering Onamatope's previous works, it can't be anything but ironic).  In addition, I can honestly say there was no character to equal Belche for impact and influence.  I'd say that the biggest difference is that they don't go as far as Draculius did, with the varying vampire abilities and their uses.  The protagonist never really gets beyond the brute force techniques and the basics with his own abilities, and he isn't nearly as intelligent as Jun was.  There is also zero murder in this VN by the characters, which is another difference... This was probably because all of the fighting is kept in the background world of those with vampirism and those who fight them, but it was also probably because it was lighter in nature than Draculius, overall.

The most obvious common point is that Aoi is pretty much a carbon copy of the tsundere combat nun from Draculius, lol.  They have the same kind of personality, though Aoi is probably a bit less intelligent and more fragile psychologically.

aye thanks alot, so the two are basically considered 2 seperate games & its not, like i already read somewhere on the web, that libra might be a modern interpretation of its precessor. puhh good to know.

edit. wish wholeheartly that you (the porn-guys in red) might eventually consider c: drive´s kotowari as a possible candidate after this ones possible (& it will !) funding + upcoming success. XD ...*just me dreaming abit^^
-but its basically about what games to go for after your work on libra comes to an end, if xero´s olden titles will get considered possible candidates too, or only their new releases, so thats my point-

I hadn't realized Iris isn't a main heroine.  That's a bit of a shock and a disappointment to me.  I always look for that one heroine in a given eroge that grabs me, and Iris was that heroine in Libra of the Vampire Princess.  I mean, she's even in the title and she doesn't have a route? >.>;

Iris Pumila

No Iris route? Oh god damn it. Maybe there will be a fandisk for that if the game sells well enough? Maybe? Hopefully?

MiKandi Japan had this reply on Twitter:

Not sure if that indicates that Iris will play more prominently in the mini-episodes proposed as stretch goals, if there's a planned fandisc that could become a stretch goal (or mini-episodes = fandiscs?), or if that was an offer to approach the developer about a new route/stretch goal if there's sufficient interest.
