Visual Novels where sex is a necessity/mandatory in the storyline?

Here I am again with a crazy recommendation request for specific visual novel. Hope I don't blow everyone's mind with the complexity of my request.... :(

My friend keeps making fun of visual novels saying it's just animated pornography and that I should find a better hobby. I wanna prove her wrong by compiling a list of visual novels where sex is actually the driving part of the story like...... the protagonist needs to have sex in order to live, become stronger/better, cure someone with the healing properties of their "essence", or to seal some kind of contract.

A couple of games that comes to my mind are Tsukihime, Kamidori Alchemy Meister, and Fate Stay Night, but other than that, I would love more. A list of a dozen would be great. You never know, you might need this list someday to offer a rebuttal to all the VN haters out there. ^_^

I typed "Sex Under the Necessity" on vndb but there's a lot of results. I prefer a recommendation from people who actually played a game in this kind of category, recommend it for the storyline and/or tell me what the VN entails with the importance of sex. I also don't care if the game isn't translated, as I could summarize the story for my friend to understand.

Because unless the game is a nukige, hentai is never mandatory nor neccessary in a Visual Novel. It's an add on to appeal an audience who wants it.

The sole acceptable exception you could make would be Saya no uta. Period.

Is it a neccessity to show it then ? Is love just about sex ?

I was just commenting on my view of it being justified. However, I can't recall a scene when it was a necessity to show to allow the progression of the story. And to answer your question about is love just about sex, I see the two as going hand in hand to each other. If you love someone, of coarse you will want them physically, outside of family anyways, for the most part. But that doesn't mean sex = love as we all may know.

While there are other ways to progress a relationship outside of sex, I feel as it will hit a plateau with out that physical connection. So, you could say sex is a necessity in a healthy relationship. Our beloved VN's may not incorporate sex at the best of times. and may not need to show it at all, but in the long run it is needed and we get the benefit of fan service. Not like VN's are real or anything though  :makina:

I may have contradicted myself in the above statements, but, oh well.

While not a VN, go show her High School DxD. The breasts are quite needed in this one.

This question has no answer, since it's not necessary to "show" anything at all to tell a story. But then you don't have a visual novel, you have a novel. Unless you're making the argument that even novels with descriptions of sex are automatically porn just for acknowledging that sex exists.

To illustrate in a different way how extreme that opinion would be, think about how much of the average person's daily life involves sex. The human race historically couldn't have existed without it. That makes it pretty important. Now think about how much of our lives we spend consuming food or readying food for consumption. Many visual novels portray scenes based around eating or cooking because those are natural and integral parts of every day life. Is every visual novel food scene just "food porn" and unnecessary to storytelling?

For some reason many of us classify sex as something extraneous, unnecessary and distasteful that should be kept behind closed doors, even though there are only a few other things in our lives that are as important and natural. I find that distinction arbitrary.

Errrr I dont want this thread to turn into another is sex needed in VN argument. We got a couple of those already.

The tag "sex under the necessity" on VNDB defines it as

"Characters have a binding, mandatory reason to have sex. Often bizarre, like "this serious illness can only be cured by protagonist's special sperm" or "the only way for her to become stronger is to have sex".

So with that clear definition in mind, I would like some vn recommendations and maybe a brief description of the scene where it happens.

Worded it much better than myself.

In Majikoi, Miyako does indeed get stronger with semen. However, Majikoi isn't the most serious of VN's... If you are looking for something serious where semen is needed, I have no clue. There probably is nothing along the lines you want, to prove to your friend that the sex depicted isn't just for our enjoyment. While, I don't agree that depicting sex automatically = porn, you probably won't get what you want in this situation.

You make it sound like the majority of people are in the wrong wanting to an keep intimate action as part of their private life.

That's  the problem with the VN community. It's a bunch of people convinced they are cool and different because they found a more profound meaning to sex. They feel free to talk about it cause everybody does and claim that there is nothing to be ashamed of and thus that sex in Vns is fine.

Just like those teenage kids that think that think they act like rebels.

The point is you're not gonna sell that kinda of pink-ish wonderful argument to the majority.

Let me make a distinction : porn <> sex, porn is fabricated and scenarised for people to jerk off., and that's What VNs have.

Stop riding white horses of pureness with the banner of nature waving to the wind cause it's absolutely ridiculous. Porn is not a depiction of love.

The problem with this is that ultimately it's never needed, it's just enforced by stupid convoluted reasons which don't need to exist in the first place, so I think the question is pretty flawed as you'll never get your friend to agree. "Gets stronger with semen, oh yeah that's legit and this is definitely more than just porn." "They're under a curse and only sex will bring them out of it? Oh, what a fantastically intricate and interesting plot device."

You can pick any Rance game or any other shit Nukige game, a tonne of them have crap like that.

Although a single scene or so may show up in other games. Apparently La DEA has been tagged with it (by Eushully, the makers of Kamidori), although I don't specifically remember it being in the game.

But ultimately I just think your friend's right, and you're wrong. It's never needed, unless for some retarded reason forced into the VN, and the only reason for that is to make it pornographic, because that's its goal.

As stated there are better threads for debate. As I am sure it has been discussed thoroughly in the past, we all have different opinions, POV's, etc etc on this topic. Let's try to keep this thread on track.

Sorry for previously derailing.

Honestly, sex in most games is just porn.  Plain and simple.  There is pretty much no denying that that is the primary purpose it is there for.

That said, that doesn't mean it's useless.  Personally, I prefer it as an example of the first time the two partners actually trust each other with their bodies.  In most serious relationships, that's exactly what sex is, and is a milestone.

Personally, what you really want to be looking for is when sex is incorporated into the game in such a way that it doesn't feel forced for just the porn even though everyone acknowledges that porn is it's primary purpose.  To date, the only example I can produce readily is Grisaia no Kajitsu, Amane's route specifically, where the sex itself is part of the character development of Amane.

Yume Miru Kusuri, the H are very important to the story, especificaly to one of the girls [whose name I forgot].

I think Swan Song too. Even sex not being the most important part of the story, a lot of them [unfortunately, rapes] are necessary for the plot.

Other vns with less importance: G-senjou no maou, Grisaia, Cross + Channel [the protagonist is a pervert, the sex scenes don't afect the story, but are part of his character development]

These people above probably dislike sex scenes, and that is why they don't realize how some - only a few - games use them perfectly.

edit: look, a typo :v

You tell me what it means then, :jinpou:

To me it's clearly looks like a futile attemps to justify porn in VNs.

But it's actually as his friends say, hentai scense are nothing but 'animated pornography'.

KAM is a porn RPG game, FSN is a story focused game with some ridiculously badly integrated porn which disrupts the dynamic of the story, feels absolutely awkward and could have been avoided 100%.

Rather than trying to convince his friends that porn is relevent, he'd better show them the VN's aren't about porn.

So I honestly answer the question, there are no such games that have justified porn. Saya no uta is an exception because it fits well the gradation of madness in the story.

You clearly need to play Ikusa Megami Zero.  It even has a partial English patch.

In fact, it's important for two of the three heroines. For (very good) psychological reasons. And for the third girl, I can't spoil  CeruleanGamer, you have THE vn you were looking for :sachi:
