Down
Kotaku comments are fucking amazing. We did it guys! We're a big TL site now! Now if you'll excuse me I need to write my own fanfiction feat. all those heroes translating the tons (furigana: three or four) of yuri/yaoi games out there, defending the VN world against the evil dragon Gangagamer and their oppressive rape games. Suzu Fanatic
lol well, to be fair I can agree with that guy about MG catering pretty hard to "rape, sexual torture, "breaking" women via sexual humilitation, and the like". Though, I've noticed they are slowly leaning away from it. Every year I see them release ever-smaller amounts of that garbage. (setting aside the obvious partnership with Alicesoft.) But yeah, anything to do with kotaku usually = facepalm.

Down
And all of them carry misinformation, focus solely on WOW LESBIAN PORN and reek of immaturity. Well, at least there's no such thing as bad advertisement. I'll be happy if Yurirei is the new big success on Steam, even if it's for the wrong reasons. sanahtlig
But Princess Evangile or Kono Oozora ni is cut... Princess Evangile isn't lesbian. And KonoSora wasn't cut. It was butchered. Then reconstituted. And sold as steak.

So lesbian is okay but straight stuff is not? Fair enough.
WinterfuryZX
The sex scenes in Yurirei ar tame, that's why it's being allowed on steam, it's not a matter of sex orientation.
sanahtlig
I realized after the Reddit thread blew up that whimsical quips alluding to double standards aren't considered funny anymore. I do imagine that the absence of sexism (which is prevalent in in Japanese culture and particularly eroge--duh pornography) played a role in Valve's decision. Something like Suck my Dick or Die! with no explicit depictions of genitalia likely would've been rejected. Silvz and Suzu Fanatic
Turnip Sensei
I guess I should have know that internet is capable of only talking about how good the "porn" is. Does anyone actually know if Yurirei is any good? Judging by the length and the fact it's a Liar-soft game I would expect it to be at least decent. I'm pretty interested in the writing quality and how good the story is, since the descriptions makes it sound like it would portray intimate relationships little better than your average VN. And if it's actually a proper VN, I can't wait to see the reactions when people realize that it's not like sakura-games or nekopara.
WinterfuryZX
I think the majority of story oriented VN are not sexist at all, this won't be a problem. https://vndb.org/v8508/staff#staff According to vndb The main scenario writer should be Mutsuki Tatara, with "Mareni" and Sakurai Hikaru as assistants. Sakurai Hikaru is the main writer of the WAB Steampunk trilogy, she's very capable, I don't know about the others (Tatara is the main writer of Cannonball, I have yet to read it). It's well-rated on both EGS and VNDB, about as good as Liar-soft's Steampunk series. The CG count is surprisingly low however. I counted 59 unique CG and 80 CG total. Many games have several times that (especially when variations are counted). Venus Blood Hypno has ~120 unique CG, and it's a gameplay-focused title; presumably a lot of their budget went into designing the gameplay system. Liarsoft games don't make much money so they are done pretty cheaply, their cg count is usally low and they're usally partially voiced (which Yurirei is). The Steampunk Series is their flagship series so it gets better treatment with full voice and a bit more cg (the next Steampunk series game isn't being published by Liarsoft so I wonder if Sakurai owns all the rights or if she has som agreement with Liar). Decay
Most of the times they are, but more implicity [is that a word?]. We usually don't notice because we are used to them, but even games that say "A girl shouldn't behave like this" or "This is not a boy thing" are sexists.A lot of eroge authors seem to have super conservative and backwards views on gender roles and that kind of thing, so yeah I can see some people getting bothered by that. I'm not sure how this is supposed to be related to this thread.
