Kindred Spirits on the Roof to be Steam's first uncensored eroge... kind of

Decay

Yeah, this is most likely the tamest eroge in exist honestly. Sounds cool, but the chances of anything else making it through are slim. Even Gahkthun has a scene with a cumshot in it (the dick is invisible though lol), so I doubt Valve is going to let something like that through.

If they allow cocks on Steam it'll be a celebration day for me... Until then, the golden era won't begin.

Why they allowed it? Probably, because there's like 5~~ CGs with nipples shown, and nothing more. It's probably still a step in right direction, but this step is really, really, really small...

That's just my opinion though. It's better than nothing or 5 CGs with censored nipples.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

There's boobs in currently existing Triple A titles, hence why this level of exposure is not something Steam should really bat an eye torwards and even MG ackowledged this isn't the most sexual thing on Steam.

Hell, pretty sure even Huniepop tops this in terms of lewdness.

So I highly doubt this is even a step at all, just because it's not pushing Steam's buttons since this kind of stuff was already allowed there.

Am I happy it's on Steam? Sure, I really want to play this and it's great advertisement for the genre, but other than that it's not really something to write home about.

I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though.

If they aren't careful, this could backfire on Valve... it makes me worried because this also makes the VN community vulnerable.  If the wrong kid with the wrong monster parent gets ahold of this, we could see more anti-VN publicity that might cripple the community in the long run.  I won't say that I hate being the pessimist (I breathe pessimism more than oxygen) here, but this news isn't completely positive, from my point of view.

Honestly, kids can even enter MG's website through STEAM and see unrated games there. And I guess STEAM warns you about the rate of the game or at least asks your age before.

I am just seeing it as a vulnerability.  Mangagamer is basically only visible to the 'in-crowd', and if someone chooses to go to the adult part of the site after visiting the all-ages part, it won't be nearly as big of a hit as some kid finding h-content on Steam.  If Mangagamer gets in trouble on its own, it probably won't even make it to the news, but if Steam gets involved, things could get blown out of proportion really fast.

If I remember right, the HCGs in this VN aren't even censored in the JP version (because nothing too explicit was shown in the first place). It's a nice thing, but it's very far from a breakthrough really.

Also, screw Steam. :P

Huniepop's Steam version withheld the post-sex CGs, so no, it doesn't really top this in lewdness. And it's not just boobs, but they're depicted partaking in sex acts, so it's more lewd than a girl simply exposing herself. I don't actually think Steam has anything *more* sexual than this. You also have to look beyond the tame HCGs and into the actual narration, where AFAIK it does go into some explicit detail.

Again though, like I said in the OP, it's super softcore, but I also think there's not anything on Steam quite like it. I also don't think this is going to immediately usher in a new era of eroge on Steam, but the winds are shifting and this may be a sign of that. Here's a relevant image from the developer of Beach Bounce:

Again, don't expect anything soon.  Saw that post under a month ago, so I doubt the situation has changed much since then.  This is pretty much just Valve sticking their pinky toe into the water.

Not really interested in this title, but it's a pretty big step for eroge in the west.  Hope the shit doesn't hit the fan when people find out that there's actual nudity directly in this one, as well as h-scenes.  Then again, if Sakura Spirit's sales and its untruthful nudity warning were any indication, people really want to see them anniemay tittays.  Makes me wonder what Valve will implement to make this kind of game "okay" to have on Steam, though.

Doddler seems to be a bit apprehensive, but I think this attention will be good for MangaGamer.  Sadly, controversy brings attention, and attention brings sales.  This could be the sort of serendipity that puts MangaGamer on the map.  As Peter Payne once said, "There's no such thing as negative publicity".  I think Kouryuu knew exactly what he was doing when he chose to publicize this on their blog.

I don't see this blowing up. Some people might get huffy, but this won't be a big thing. People have tolerated the mingling of adult and non-adult content at american video stores for ages. Americans ignore this shit, there are christian fundamentalists who object strongly to porn but nobody listens to them. As long as it's not anything too deviant, Americans have proven themselves perfectly willing to ignore matters such as these.

So yeah, one largely tame title being released on Steam may cause some upset tumblrites to rant but it's not going to cause a scandal. Also expect the publicity to do wonders for the game and MangaGamer.

You know what's exciting about this?

Gahkthun has the same kind of mild erotic content. We could end up getting a Sakurai game uncensored on Steam (with a good translation!).

If Nekopara is anything to go by, those games could sell truckloads to horny teens just from having anime boobs.

If Gahkthun can get on steam it's pretty much a guarantee that it'll do decently as Mangagamer has hinted that even their worst selling steam titles (like Dengeki Stryker) do better than most of their non steam titles.

In which case we'll almost definitely get the rest of the steampunk series considering that all of them except Celenaria (which has regular mosaic:ed genitals) has h-scenes that are way less porny than Gahkthuns (and Sona-Nyl even has a console version). The only thing to worry about is that Gahkthun's scenes might be deemed too porny for steam because of the giant breasts.

Yes, *cough* non-porny *cough*. Not to mention Inganock depicts a relationship between an adult man and an underaged girl in it's purest form. I think you're going a little bit overboard on what might, and might not happen. If anything, there's a chance for the Steampunk Collection, but don't expect any of the original 18+ games on Steam anytime soon.

Yurirei-san is suddenly making a lot of press coverage; too bad most of it is the kind of news you often see on the first pages of tabloids. Even tha japanese game news coverage sites are already talking about it. I actually wonder how are the guys at Liar-Soft feeling now.

In one way or another, it's a chance for MG to gain more publicity for themselves and visual novels as a genre; the rest depends on them and their approach to this whole situation.

Oh I didn't mean that they were not porny at all, it's just that if Gahkthun could get in the others (Celenaria excepted), should be able to get in too. I personally believe that Gahkthun probably wouldn't get in, actually. Which is sad because I don't think it's going to sell that well and steam exposure would help a lot.

Inganock would most likely need to be slightly censored but there isn't any sex or a romantic relationship between Gii and Kia, so only a couple of cgs would be affected, the text itself should be fine unless I remember the scene wrong.

Actually, they are more like father and daughter, not lovers '-'

the comments just.... ruined my day...

I dunno, I played Nekopara and tbh while its story is odd as hell (like way above the norm for these things) the animated characters for all scenes really set a new bar for these things.Seeing the horribly static alternatives just feels like most aren’t even trying. The stories are rarely anything special, so why can’t more put in that kind of effort?

How ignorant can they be?
