Why are Super Noodles hard to cook :(

Recommended Posts

You're in a tough contest with SnowPoke to decide which one of you two made the topic that surprised me the most, y'know.

I try to not buy too much noodles, they're so insanely easy and quick to make that when I have some left I can't get myself to cook something that resembles a proper meal =p

Just made myself some dinner, I'm not sure if they exist outside the UK, but I had some Super Noodles.

I used too much water and now they have no chicken flavour :(/>

Funny. Noodles aren't really popular here in Brazil- we usually eat pasta.

when eating noodles I drain all of the water before adding the flavoring.

Was thinking the same thing about topics.

I love noodles. Often times, if I have left over chicken or beef, I'll mix it in with the top ramen (or whatever) and eat it with that to add some substance to it. It makes a good lunch, but I try to eat better for dinner.

Students are more pasta-fueled in France too. The fact that I eat ramen makes it so I will sometimes go pasta-noodle-noodle-pasta-noodle, which is unhealthy as hell but incredibly lazy convenient.

That sounds good... Sadly I pretty much never have leftovers >_>

Seeing those full-stuffed egg/beef/vegetables/whatever ramen in anime makes you wonder why you only have a bowl with noodles and aroma powder in front of you.

Muahaha I remind people of SnowPoke.

I think I might win on a single topic, but SnowPoke wins on quantity.

I bought some more noodles and did less water. I got a little taste now... cost me 50p!

EDIT:

Wait a minute, did SnowPoke change name >.>

With just about any instant noodles I've made, I've purposefully not cooked them fully and use the least amount of water possible so that they stay somewhat firm instead of ending up soft and soup-like :P

I tend to like them better slightly crunchy, I suppose.

I have left instant ramen behind. Now I make real broth with real ramen noodles instead. My stove takes such a fucking long time to heat up so I'm finished with chopping up vegetables and adding the seasoning when the water's hot enough to put in the noodles anyway. There's no point to instant ramen when I can make real food in the exact same time.

I prefer:

to any of the "instant ramen".

The noodles are similar, but the taste...is just a lot better. I can only speak for the Chicken and Roast Chicken Flavors though.

All you have to mind are 2 things:

-that you fill the water exactly to the indicated level

-that you stir it for a good minute after adding the seasoning

tbh if I want instant no fuss food, I go for an instant macaroni and cheese instead

Instant noodles - one of my specialist subjects ;)

Unfortunately, no UK brand seems to have yet learnt how to make instant noodles properly, so if you want some good ones I strongly advice you hightail it down your closest oriental supermarket. Loon Fung and Wing Yip are the two most well-known names, although any other in Chinatown (tube: Leicester Square) will serve you well. You'll find yourself being spoilt for choice and I can pretty much guarantee all of them will be a step-up from standard supermarket brands! Just find one that looks authentic and has a flavour you like the sound of - Nissin (as seen in shcboomer's post) tends to be reasonably-priced and reliable. If you feel particularly game, you can even buy a box of 30 packs for <£10 <ahttp://forums.fuwanovel.net/uploads/emoticons/default_laugh.png' alt=''> (although you could find the exact same boxes for as low as £6.50 3 years back....) My personal recommendation is XO Seafood~

PROTIP

For the extra-keen and extra-free, I recommend scrutinizing and comparing the ingredients list to make your choice. Anything that has a list of stuff that sounds like it belongs in a chemistry class is probably best avoided! Conversely, anything that has an "all-natural" list is probably a (relatively) healthier pick. While rare, those without the infamous monosodium glutamate (MSG) do exist, and usually surprisingly tasty too.

Paldo's Bibim Men is my current favourite!

Will find a Ramen shop somewhere!
While not my personal favourite, Eat Tokyo ended up serving reasonably-priced no-fuss food that proved popular with a friend of mine known for being a gourmand, so is probably a safe bet. While not exclusively ramen shops, if you have extra cash to spare, I hear Roka and Bincho are places to try. And just 'cos I love my sushi, I'm just gonna go ahead and throw out SushiMania for having all you can eat sushi AND sashimi for cheaper than I thought~

I could continue talking about my signature "double-boiled" method of cooking noodles and the ways I spice up normal instant foods in the local supermarket, but I do have other work so will probably leave it for now. If nothing else, your neighbourhood Japanese will do in a pinch! The local Chinese takeaway can also help - so long as it looks somewhat respectable. That being said, for having the most bland-tasting and disproportionately overpriced food, I avoid Wagamama like the plague >.<
