Dmm/nutaku games

Anyone play the online games on these sites?

I tried out pero pero seduction and it was a little bit of a disappointment. I guess I got spoiled with awesome free games like hearthstone. The level up to reveal alternate costumes or poses for the girls wasn't bad but the game needs more substance.

Yah, pero pero and lord of the valkyries are pretty crap. Millennium War is a decent tower defense game in which enemies drop materials to level up your characters and unlock h scenes, but gets grind tastic after a few levels.  Angelic Saga might actually be pretty good, it's kinda like a dumbed down version of yugioh, if they ever get the pvp to work.

Millennium Aigis is a decent gameplay-focused freemium game.  The story is sort of nonexistent.  Nutaku has completely nuked all of the loli content, erasing the characters from the game completely.  Combined with the delay in getting content from the Japanese release, Nutaku's English version is decidedly inferior compared to the original.  Several fans of the game on VNDB switched over to the Japanese version and haven't looked back.

I'm actually supportive of removing the Loli content so maybe just play the English version

Wow..... I wished I knew about this earlier, I wonder if this means that Ulyanas' route was censored in their version of everlasting summer.

You should take a look at the Nutaku thread on VNDB.

Thanks for directing me to the link, there is some interesting stuff there.

Glad you gave the games a try.

To Soulless Watcher, Everlasting Summer is completely uncensored. In regards to Aigis, there's no lolis - there's also no mosaics over everything, as in the JP version.

Not sure if this is legitly from people at Nutaku, since it seems a bit odd that this is the first post on this site on the same day the account was created. On the off chance that it is I would like to say that I do appreciate you guys's work, I might of kinda dissed Valkyrie and pero pero but I did sink a good amount of time into both games. Having said that while I do understand why lolis have to be taken out of western localizations of japanese games, (especially after the shiny days debacle) I don't believe the lack of mosaics compensates for the missing content. I don't really hold any ill will twords you guys, I enjoy Angelic Saga and  I genuinely do want to see what you bring over next.

Generally we go where the people talk about us. Hadn't come across your community prior to today.

Thanks for the kind words! It's been a tough week, but the launch of Everlasting Summer has gone swimmingly and we're happy to be bringing a great visual novel to people who haven't experienced the genre before. Shameless plug: http://www.nutaku.net/games/everlasting-summer/for those of you who haven't tried it yet.

The loli question is something that's decided by visa, mastercard, and paypal. We lobby them frequently to loosen their standards, but until they do, we have to toe their company line. I wrote a pretty extensive description of the problem on VNDB if you're more curious about the process.

We're looking at new ways to include more loli characters, possibly with some of their sex scenes removed. Most people would rather have an important character without a sex scene than have it all thrown out, so that's an option for future titles.

I am genuinely impressed that Nutaku not only managed to track down this thread within a day of its creation, on a site they don't follow, but invested the effort to write a tailored (not cookie-cutter) reply.  JAST, MangaGamer, and Sekai Project need to observe Nutaku's PR and take notes.

I'm guessing the payment issue regarding lolicon is related to microtransactions (which is unique to the Nutaku model), as MangaGamer sells games with loli content in them via credit card (PayPal refuses to work with them for unrelated reasons).  Perhaps the content could be unlocked with a microtransaction through an agnostic provider, like via BitCoin?  I think a significant minority would pay extra to get the original experience.  But yes, cutting H-scenes rather than the characters would be a less damaging way of handling the censorship.

Even if I'm critical of the freemium model that Nutaku champions, I do respect Nutaku's commitment to its fans.  Winning people like me over is going to be extremely difficult.  We expect uncompromising English releases that are every bit as enjoyable as their Japanese counterparts.  Some of us don't like browser games.  Many of us scoff at the warped game design and exploitativeness inherent to the freemium model.

But bring over a game I can get behind, in a format I can accept, and you'll have my support.  With Everlasting Summer, you're getting close.  I'll be watching to see what your next step is from there.  With a bit of elbow twisting, you might even be able to get Fuwanovel to cover the game on its official blog.  Promoting nascent developers is one of Fuwanovel's favorite pastimes as of late.

I too am impressed at the speed of the reply. While I still feel that most of the games lean too heavily on the freemium stamina model model I do appreciate the English port.

I'm sure you guys and dmm are both are pulling in good money so lets hope bigger and better things to come

Finally I feel that the luv slot/luv bingo idea of adding video as reward is a good idea but poorly implemented. By the looks of it they were done by some other developer than your other dmm ports.

Here is my take on things. Porn is everywhere on the Internet and everywhere for free so there needs to be more content. Dmm sells digital adult video. I think that could be leveraged. Having a full scene out of a film isn't really what you need but something more akin to preview/highlight videos that could highlight titles dmm has for digital sale. You could have full digital downloads as tournament prizes. The hardest part for games like these are to keep content fresh and rolling. For example Pero Pero started out strong but any semblance of compelling content is quickly drying out. The same can be said for the luv series of games or hellfire girls.

Let me chime in here and say that Nutaku is not wedded to the freemium model, as our recent sponsorship of Everlasting Summer should demonstrate. Right now we bring over DMM games which are built on that format, but we have every intention of expanding our selection in the future to include non-freemium.

I've made posts on a few forums talking about how our ultimate objective is to foster a native-English adult game development scene. There's a huge demand for sex games of all sorts, but few methods to distribute them due to restrictions on major platforms like Steam. Nutaku wants to change that.

@Alucard - in our experience sex is supplemental to gameplay. As you said yourself, people can get free porn anywhere, but good games that seamlessly integrate adult content are almost impossible to find. Rather than move in the Luv Bingo / Luv Slots direction, we'd like to see more games like Aigis or... for example... Breeding Season.

@kisu - Everyone loves Kancolle :) We'll be expanding into mainstream games in the near future, so who knows...

A native English adult game development scene sure sounds like a lofty goal but I guess I have my own bias for Japanese things. The types of adult games that have come out in the west have been very sparse and utter shite. There were the Larry games which were not half bad but that's about where decent notable titles stop.

I still think there is room for content like luv slot except it has to be a heck of a lot better. Luv slot just looks like a proof of concept project but it really needs to be refined to be a quality modern slots game. Take a look at the newer slots IGT puts out these days or even some of the sophisticated pachinko machines in Japan

Get rid of the stamina system and I'd be inclined to play it. Should find another way to make money other than a terrible pay-or-wait content gating system.

My brain just did a forced reboot because of how stupid this comment is. Yes I know you are just going to flame back at me, but did you put any thought into this post?

Why do you think it's stupid?

Well if you are just speaking about the stamina system in general most of their games are localizations of Japanese browser games I doubt they can just alter the games however they want without some issues with the rights. Second, most of their games (Hellfire girls, PeroPero seduction, and Lord of the Valkyrie) are completely centered around the stamina system. Taking that out would be like taking out the shooting in COD there would be pretty much nothing left.

If you are simply speaking about Luv Slot, which I admittedly havn't touch, I have an issue with your basic mindset. I just hate when people complain about something, but do not have an inkling of an idea of how to fix the issue to benefit both sides. Tell me how do you expect nutaku to remove the pay-or-wait system, while making the same amount of money? Unless your comment was a general fu to nutaku and you want the members to shut down the website and look for other jobs. I personaly wish I was charged less for my car insurance, but I know that telling them they should find another way to cover me without taking money from my paycheck (without any bright ideas from my side) is just idiotic.

A subscription model is the most obvious alternative to freemium, and it's pretty easy to convert back and forth between the two.  Instead of having unlimited premium currency (available through paid microtransactions), it'd be fed to the player at a constant rate.  The stamina system might be somewhat loosened to allow more extended playing sessions, while still preserving the sporadic nature of the gameplay.  Of course, the real benefit of a non-freemium model is a system that isn't designed around it, so to some extent it can't be completely "fixed".  But it can be patched up at least to be less infuriating.

But my guess is that what Kelebek1 meant to say is that he'd prefer other types of games be localized instead that don't rely on a stamina model.

Hearthstone is a perfect example of how free to play can work without stamina. It earns 20 million dollars a month for blizzard. Nutaku games wouldn't pull nearly as much but even a fraction of that is a good chunk of change.

Exactly. Any MOBA, DotA2, LoL, HoN, Smite, all free to play. TF2, the new Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm from Blizz. Nearly every free to play MMO, of which there are *tonnes.* Which was my point, make money from something other than gating playing the game from people.

There are 2 main reasons these stamina systems exist:

1) They are far and away the biggest monetary income for the mobile genre (which is where this system came from), as you would expect, when you're pretty much required to pay to play the game. Not even pay to win here, it's pay to play.

2) You don't need nearly as much content in a game, as users can't experience much on average due to the system, reducing development costs a lot and speeding up releases.

Both these things basically sum up the mobile game market to a tee. it's a massively overcrowded market where almost nothing can survive. It's flooded with just complete shit. Even the most popular games are abysmal by game standards. As such, mobile games are about getting as much money as you can from someone in the short time they play the game before moving to something else. A stamina system works well there, people get interested in a game for a few days, they get restricted, they're more likely to pay out to fill their time. And as people lose interest and move on in this crowded market, companies need to push out a lot of games and push them out very quickly. Development costs and content need to kept as low as possible. It needs to be good enough to get money out of people, but not good enough to remain for years. Games with stamina systems are exactly that, they have very little content. If the stamina system was removed, you'd get through the whole game in a couple days.

The mobile market is just shit, so for doing that on mobile that's whatever. That market is for 5 minute time wastes, and 99.9999% of the games are on that level of quality. However for a PC market, it's just unacceptable really. Employing a game system like that tells you a lot about the company's quality, what their games will be like, and what their aims for their games are. Games designed with systems like this are almost exclusively terrible and not worth your time beyond the initial stamina wall you hit after starting the game with max. They exist solely to keep you occupied for a short amount of time, and make the most money out of you as possible during.

I've been around free games like this for a long time, and I know that the stamina-type systems are always the most hated part of them. You don't need to take my word for it either, right now you can go and look through all (currently) 58 pages of the Angelic Saga thread on HongFire, and look how much revolves around the stamina system, and how much stamina you need to do x, and how people are annoyed that they're pretty much required to pay to complete the events or just progress in general.

So yeah, Soulless Watcher, I did put thought into why I said that. Also, top of one of these games for nostalgia's sake (from 2012 <3):
