Otakon2015 Announcements & Discussion

The wording is a bit off mind you so it seems based on the wording the steam version is guaranteed so what's the kickstarter for? A retail version? Or is this kickstarter for the release of the steam version? Depending on what the answer is will determine if I bother with any of their games. I don't like the idea of false advertising (or something similar).

As the unofficial and self-proclaimed PR manager of the noble The Oxford Comma is Superior Subs (a title which people seem to substitute with such inferior names as "the Noble Works team" for whatever undoubtedly disappointing reason), I can say with certainty that I'm supposed to say something here. However, Keisuke, our de facto leader, while popping in sporadically through various means of telecommunication, is currently hunting bears or something on vacation, so nothing can be said about this Yuzusoft business except that nothing can be said about this Yuzusoft business.

Am I missing something here, or is there a reason why you and others keep calling it Tokyo Babylon?

You might want to talk to dovac about it.  He might ask you to sign something before talking with him though.

I could have sworn one of the people on the panel announced it as Tokyo Babylon so I figured they changed the name...looks like I have to edit the first post again as I may have misheard.

In my currently limited authority, I will say that there is no cause for concern and that we ain't gonna stop translating your porn game.

I want all-ages version... Nah, just kidding  :P Thanks for confirmation from "limited authority staff member"

Anyway, who the hell would choose all-ages over unrated...

And that news about KS of Root Double... I would say that it's not fair and unacceptable thing to do by SP.

@Decay

It shows how bad SP is organisation-wise... KS is good thing, because the game comes with bonuses and probably cheaper than at release. Annoucing the game, showing opening(translated) saying it will be Xtended edition and then month after annoucing that it will be through KS it's just not right, I'm happy that this game will go through KS, and I will probably even add some $$, but Sekai really should put their shit together and do a better job with organising things. I think cutting content from VNs just to put them on Steam is also wrong, unless they include patches recovering it(something like links on their sites for patches)

And Sekai policy to look 99% only for VNs with all-ages versions is...

I don't understand what's "unfair" about the root double thing. I'm still okay with using KS for these kinds of things and it's not like they took anyone's money for it already. You've lost nothing so far, so what's unfair about it?

Well they didnt say anything about a kickstarter so people thought a release is already set in stone. Also western visual novel companys and public relations seems to be a bad combination.

SP just needs to be upfront about if the title is gonna be Kickstarted or not.  I don't mind them being Kickstarted but for a business it just reeks of bad planning or worst (and annoying as hell).  Now every question about SP projects will probably start with "Is this being Kickstarted or not?"

If 5pb thinks console sales are going to somehow be better than JAST's sales for Steins;Gate they are going to be sorely disappointed. Visual Novels are not console games. It would be nice if 5pb could realize the market for visual novels is in PC and little else...

Eh, didn't vita/ps3 release of S;G sell quite well though? Can't really say anything in comparison terms but pretty sure they are certainly not disappointed with those numbers.

As for otacon: well, at least Propeller got hooked, way better than nothing.

That's not even true in the english market. I would bet you anything that the zero escape games sold better than any official english language PC VN release.

Does anyone really know anything about how well those versions of S;G sold? I haven't seen any indication on how they performed.

They did report this and tweet that. Also LE's sold out real quick and even regular editions are usually low on stock and disappear completely from time to time. RD is also tweeting how it's doing very well and is one of their hottest in the summer sale.

So all in all it's obviously selling at the very least decent and maybe even a lot better. Especially considering how the official US-release is yet to come.

peronally i´m quite happy withz them overall otakon announcements, as two of my fouvourite novels got licensed, tokyo babel & tenshin ranman...now see what the future brings.

edit: regarding a "possible" cooperation between oxford comma & sp, i can only say that they seem not to like the idea, like they already stated awhile ago on their own site, when beeing asked if they would consider working together with mg. guess that also goes for sp.

edit2: actually i find the whole magical girl michiru drama pretty hillarious, not that i care for, cause i dont plan on reading it anyway

So here's an interesting thing, some random english speaking dude on twitter responded to a tweet from the Chuablesoft twitter account about their upcoming game asking for an english version, and the president of Chuablesoft actually responded, saying that they're in contact with Sekai Project and is interested in the localization of their games.

Sekai Project seems like an odd partner for Chuablesoft considering how heavy with adult content their games tend to be, with no all-ages alternate versions. Sekai Project does have some adult-only games coming out via Denpasoft but they're shorter doujin titles, a lengthy adult-only title would be new for them and I wonder if they would bother investing that amount of resources into something they can't sell on Steam. But even if that doesn't work out, I suppose the upside is that they're interested in localization so it seems like it might happen one way or another. But it's best to not treat it like a sure thing, as it doesn't seem like anything is even close to being finalized yet.

For my personal opinion, if a deal with Chuablesoft does happen, I hope it's not for their upcoming game, mainly because I don't dig the art. I actually really like the art in a lot of their titles but their new game's art seems a bit worse, in my initial impressions of their pre-release marketing materials. Their most notable game is perhaps Astraythem, which has been on my wishlist of titles to be translated for a while now.

edit: Today was the day of Japanese developers letting things slip ahead of time, it seems. Key may have let slip that Harmonia will be a simultaneous English/Japanese release. http://kazamatsuri.org/rumour-harmonia-to-receive-simultaneous-english-japanese-release-in-2015/
