What are you playing?

Seeing as the PS3 asset + voice patch is FINALLY out for Higurashi's third chapter (Tatarigoroshi), I finally started playing it! Had read the first couple of chapters beforehand, I quite like the direction it is going (especially due to the yet-ignored connections to Onikakushi). Only completed the first two chapters of Tatarigoroshi so far, so the parts I'd read, but I hear that this chapter has very little downtime so I ain't worried.

this CG (very minor spoiler) is hilarious:

I started euphoria, the first half is indeed trashy as hell, I skipped like crazy through it. I'd evaluate it 3/10 if I only have to consider this part.

Fortunately it starts becaming quite interesting after the beginning of the

rescue game

, now I finished Rinne's route without having a clear understanding of what

went wrong with the world, looks like a porny Megami Tensei ripoff with chaos fanatics living in anarchy vs Vs batshit crazy and rapey rlegious nutcases.

Currently reading Steins;Gate and It has everything I'm looking for in a Visual Novel, anything actually regardless of media. Superb story line with flawlessly written character along with their individual character development between one another. Captivating events/scenes/art/music I love the music, with intense realistic logic adapted into an already sensible world that brings everything together without question. I'm no big fan when it comes to high use of realistic hard physics in shows and genres I watch and read but after getting through the slow points (the build up to the game) I am having loads of fun especially when they bring up theorems to support their reasoning throughout the story.  If I could I would beige read this game to the very end and not stop until I was finished but life sucks...I played my first run without a walk through (I find that more intriguing when I run into endings I wasn't expecting) and got Suzuha's ending (which I really enjoyed from beginning to end.)

If this story continues on this path that made me spend 8 hours of my day off just reading nonstop then It'll be in my top 3 when it's over.

I have a few people to thank for the recommendation. I'm having a blast.

Finished the first chapter of Chusingura, but it did cost me a lot of willpower to do so, because it was a real snorefest.

Spoiler

It didn’t look so bad at first though. When the events in Edo were told that led to the whole conflict, it looked like the story had potential. But then the turning point happened with Asano being the only one punished since Inre had the glorious idea that this major and deciding event happened because 'Shogun-loli was pissed with Asano because she disturbed her while playing with her puppy'. Ha ha ha, what a laugh! The whole mood of the scene gone for a dumb joke. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning because the writer apparently has a 'special talent' for cracking jokes in completely unfitting situations, sucking even the last bit of atmosphere and tension out of every situation. Might have been okay for a real comedy story, but hardly fitting for the source material of a grim revenge story where all the heroines die a cruel death at the end.

Actually, that’s almost a prime example of what’s wrong with Japanese story writers nowadays. Potentially interesting stories are ruined with silly, unfitting and misplaced comedy. No wonder story VN's don't sell anymore, they just suck in comparision to older stuff like Saya no Uta, G-Senjou, Fate, etc.

Another problem was that despite being all ages with apparently very minor H-content even in the uncensored original, the VN constantly bombards you with fan service galore that even Sakura games would pale in comparison. Worst offender here was Kazuemon who was pretty much a pure nukige character - her whole purpose being to show as much boobs and nudity as possible, regardless of the situation.

Unfortunately, the main heroines weren’t much better and as bland and boring as it gets with the exception of Kuranosuke who managed to be even worse. She was supposed to be the leader, but 90% of the time she was in ‘chibi-form’ for whatever reason where she looked like 6 and acted like 4. A total goofball, with the only remarkable trait being, that she had the sex drive of a 45 year old chain-smoking nymphomaniac. The only main character that was bearable was Yasubee. But in general I was rooting for Ichigaku, one of the villains, since she was one of the rare characters with a brain.

The forced ‘romance’ with Kuranosuke was also one of the most creepy things I had to witness for a while. It came completely out of nowhere with little to no chemistry between the two. She was old enough to be his mother but was banging him in chibi form, making him pretty much a pedo with Oedipus complex :michiru:. And that he seems to seek out another heroine each chapter despite keeping his memories, speaks volumes about his character.

But character development of any form didn’t really exist anyway. Part of that was because there were so many POV changes that the main characters didn't get enough time to grow. But it wasn't just that, despite getting enough hints that there was something fishy with the events in Edo, they never got the idea to investigate. The protag was just an obedient dog for Kuranosuke and the group of ronin were just goofing around doing nothing until they decided to start their little crusade. And that was pretty much just an endless fight with little point. The heroines also seemed to have a bit of a Seppuku fetish, being really fired up for it and even making jokes shortly before their end. Almost like lemmings unaware of the situation.

Overall, the chapter was supposed be a complete heroine route, but instead it was just a gutted husk of a story whose lack of focus caused it to achieve nothing and that was far too funny for its own good. Well, it can't be helped I guess. The VN was probably never supposed to be a story VN in the first place and just intended as a simple goofige. Not my type of humour though. A real waste of time, but at least it had a clean ending so I can safely skip the other chapters.

Heroine ratings: Ichigaku > Don’t care

Overall rating: 3 / 10

Wanted to give it a 4 / 10, but I subtracted a point because the translators were apparently not aware that titles in English are gender-aware, constantly addressing the girls with ‘Mr.’ or ‘he’. I'm fairly tolerant if it comes to translation, but not 'that' tolerant.

As for the title here, still procastinating on my Flyable Heart here. Siiiiiiigggghhhhh........ I swear that hopefully I'll be able to finish Amane's route at early November here.

Oky, I 'll just tell my story about playing Negligee here. The story, well it's just MC as lingerie store manager did some training job to 3 of the employee candidates (Trainees). By the way, MC and all of her candidate were woman and therefore we'll had yuri there. Although the story was bland (It's AJ Tilley okay), I think it was had interesting twist there. Namely you could had all of the characters wearing the lingerie (Not covered) at the noon. Yes, you could just half naked with lingerie when the store open, and had all men look at you and the trainees (With what kind of eye I'll leve it to your imagination). Overall, the saving grace for this VN was only the twist here, because the sex scene and the music was quite bland there too.

ChuSingura, yes I also had facepalm when the shogun punished Asano because her playing with the dog was interuppted (Either Steam or 18+ version was quite ridiculuous). And considering that it'll involved at least 48 lifes, the decision shouldn't came up easily here. Then again, I guess just making 46 or so samurai to women was already ridiculuous imo. As fot the execuition, I bet it was not for silly reason if we talk about real life situation here. That's all I could say here.

That pink loli is the perfect satiric representation of the ultra animal rights fanatic dog shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi IMHO, there's a reason why she's protrayed that way.

Also, the VN loosely follows the real historical events leading to the 47 ronin revenge, the real Kuranosuke was more or less like that.

Play Catch Canvas, and let's just said that the choice was the easiest after Shinikiss here. You'll knew what I mean if you play this. As for the story, well very cliche if I may said and unlike Negligee there's nothing special about the twist other than MC's uncle was quite Dirty Old Man there. I'll try to elaborate this more later, and right now I'm currently continuing Amane route in Flyable Heart (Delayed again). That's all for now.

Haven't had much time to read VNs since school started... But alas, I'm managing to take time and play Danganronpa 2. I'm towards the end of chapter 4. They're such wonderful games. They're stylized, in your face, and such a blast even if they aren't deep at all, ahaha. And even if there aren't really any great thematics to chew on the mysteries are a lot of fun to think about and each time when I think I've figured something out, I'm surprised and I turn out to be wrong. The second game is better gameplay wise and for the most part character wise, but

Spoiler

I still don't like anyone more than Genocider. On a side note, I'm so happy she lived, that's like a 1/3 chance when we're talking about Dangan Ronpa, ahaha.

I love the little nods to the first game and while I like the idea of a bunch of students getting trapped in a school more conceptually, the island seems more thought out and diverse as a whole. The lack of text speed options continues to grate on my nerves (I read really fast so it's irritating), but I'm soldiering through. The first game didn't have a great ending but I found it to  be more than sufficient. Also

Spoiler

Woah, Junko's pretty cute. The bipolar thing had more charm than it should have and it was only helped by the expressive art style. On one hand, I want to say that a better character motivation would have been nice but something simple and absurd like what we got suits Dangan Ronpa quite well.

I picked up Corona Blossom vol. 2 to kill some time while I'm waiting for Memory's Dogma, and just got past the OP video. It's a little more enjoyable than vol. 1, so far, but still pretty mediocre.

I find that I don't mind art asset reuse in these episodic releases, but the music reuse actually does annoy me, even though (or perhaps because?) it's pretty good music.

Playing Little Busters Converted Edition for PSP. Was waiting for it to come out on Steam, but the publisher is soooo sloooowww. And the patch for the psp version is finally properly done with a nice readable font. (previously the text looked awful, because English translation was added by replacing save data with translated text)

First impressions of Psychopass Mandatory Happiness

  • ...Ooooh, it's not a 1:1 VN adaptation! It has its own thang going on where you play as either female Inspector Nadeshiko or male Enforcer Takuma who's newly added to Akane's Division and supposedly the timeline will be within the first 8 episodes of S1 and deal with a unique baddy.
  • These protags have their own realtime-ish (via open up the menu screen) psycho-pass that can change based on choices or something, that sounds fun.
  • VN's kinda not optimized, hopefully it wasn't from a bad case of consolitis but whenever a character sprite has to fade out so another can fade in it causes a nasty delay, kinda like "Hi, how are you?" *fade out* ... *fade in* "I'm good, you?" *fade out* ... *fade in* "Good, thanks". Results in a very, very, unfluid reading experience, especially during 'action' scenes.
  • Art is as expected from 2015+ standards, backgrounds look great and characters are true to their anime depictions. Also reuse of anime tracks
  • The devs decided to block screenshots on the Vita version (wtf they can do that??), so I can't take pics for my misc rants, fk this, should've just waited for Steam version, jezuz ._.

I like to overhype things to trap ppl into inevitably getting disappointment :holo:

Finally resuming I/O again, will finish up B' then do A' and finally E true or something,

The male:female ratio thing intrigued me, for once a VN explains why there's like 5 girl characters per 1 guy :sachi:

After long break, I finally came back to Swan Song. I'm around 3/4 of the story (basing on youtube playthrough).

Shit's depressing man. I can't read it like first 1/3 of the game - 10 hours non stop. I had enough after just 2. I just couldn't stand how everything is shit, every action characters take is turning ugly, every situation is terryfying and even the small happy scenes/situations are making me sad, because I can see how small that happiness is in the vast ocean of depression. And I just know/feel it will be even worse.

I love it.
